Spring Game to be at 6pm; Gentry to TE full-time, Khalid Hill at FB
At Harbaugh's signing earlier at MDen, he said the spring game would be played at 6pm on Friday, April 1st. I realize I already created a thread on the spring game being April 1 but the time was not announced yet and that is a pretty key detail for a Friday game.

EDIT: also appears he's having a presser now.
Khalid Hill is going to work at fullback. Zach Gentry will stay at TE

Harbaugh said Mason Cole will get work at center right away when spring starts. Peppers is full go.

Harbaugh says all the early enrollees are doing well. He singled out Carlo Kemp: 'He looks like he's been here for years.'

6pm should be before it gets too cold, if it is not too cold already that day.

do not like...quite a few people from west michigan and other areas from more than an hour away not going to be able to make it. will be interesting to see if they have more or less than last year.

Yup, this screws over a ton of people. People with kids, people who can't take off of work, people who come in from far away. I expect the attendance to be pretty bad and the SEC-loving media to make note of it, ignoring the start time and day of week.
Good luck to the folks trying to get through Friday rush hour traffic on 696.

The fact of the matter is that people would be ripping this idea to shreds if this was two years ago.
Just poor planning by the department. Hands are tied. All 15 practices have to be within 34 days. April 2nd on a Saturday can't happen because The Big House is double-booked for a Men's and Women's Lax doubleheader. Not to mention the large amount of people that will be next door and taking up parking spaces around the stadium for the Gymnastics regional.

Someone in line at M Den today said something about the Spring game being on April 1st. The first words out of Harbaugh's mouth: "Bo's birthday."

People would be ripping this idea two years ago because the team was shit and the AD was a jackass and people were ripping everybody for absolutely anything.
Now, people are happy.
Saturday would obviously be better, but it's just the Spring Game. And if your skin crawls and you make a 'who farted' face when I type "just the Spring Game", then this event means more than enough for you to take a day off work.

Totally agree with Pepto. If you really want to go, take a day off or, if you live close enough, half a day. Bring the family, it's a Friday night. Sorry your cheese got moved, but cumong, be flexible, it's a free spring game we're talking about!

Just build the damn lacrosse stadium already. It's year four of the program, why are they still playing in a gigantic football stadium?
February 19th, 2016 at 5:34 PM ^
This thing just got approved last spring and ground is finally being broken. It may take two more years. I think the projected opening is spring 2018.
February 19th, 2016 at 7:07 PM ^
how hard can it be to build a lacrosse stadium? I could set up 200 folding metal chairs and two goals in an hour or so. Am I missing something?
February 19th, 2016 at 8:53 PM ^
A scoreboard, shot-clocks, protective netting behind the goals so spectators dont get beaned by 100 mph hard rubber balls, and a couple thousand more seats to start.
February 19th, 2016 at 5:29 PM ^
How hard is it to move a lacrosse game? We moved the Michigan Maryland game on 2 days notice. The attendance for the spring game won't be over 3,000 if it starts one hour after people get out of work. I like both Hackett and Harbaugh but not sure how this is going to turn out. I think people have a right to be upset about not being able to go to it when they were planning on doing just that.
February 19th, 2016 at 5:34 PM ^
I'll put some money down the attendance will be well well over 3,000.
I get how the timing can be disappointing and frustrating for some people, but I don't think it's all that big of a deal, it's just the spring game.

Well, its two lacrosse games, for one.
And it's their season, not football's. Those are actual games that count in the Big Ten standings for the men's and women's teams. Asking them to move their games so football can practice/scrimmage would be disrespectful to those student-athletes.
And they moved the UMMaryland game because it was an in-season game where there werent other scheduling problems but their were weather/safety concerns. Slightly different.
February 19th, 2016 at 5:26 PM ^
Why don't we ever have real games on Friday or Sunday? Does no one consider the man who has to work Saturdays?! People will attend, some will not, and life will go on

Whether you think that the game is a big deal or not is irrelevant. 60,000 people at an event in Ann Arbor is a big deal and to put it at a time when your constituents can't go to it seems like poor planning. Also there's the fact that it will look awful on tv to have a completely empty stadium.

It's petulant when it's the minority who are against the idea, but just part of a good, old-fashioned mob when it's the majority.
And I didn't neg you. I never do. You're one of my favorite posters on here.
The attendance will suffer because of the people who can't take off of work. But like I said, this was just bad planning and there really is no choice but to have it on April 1.
I think 8pm would be better because it isn't an hour after everyone gets off of work, but I digress.
I'm still going and meeting up with friends who go to U-M that I've never been able to see a game with since I obviously don't sit in the student section. Won't ruin my day. Hope the weather is decent.

It's a spring game. Big fucking whoop and it's not a revenue generated either. If it is, you bet your ass that it would be on a Saturday

"Like it or not, life is all about making adjustments to things you have no control over. Get used to it."
I see, so I guess you never complain about anything... I for one don't care either way (I live hundreds of miles away). The time seems to be important to WD, why do you feel the need to change that?

A game that ends at 7:30 on a Friday night sounds pretty family friendly to me.
February 19th, 2016 at 5:48 PM ^
I fall into this category and think this is unfortunate scheduling both for selfish reasons and for the university. My kids are too young for me to bring them to an actual game. The Spring Game is the perfect event to get them into the big house to get a taste of the M football experience and start building little Michigan fans (thus not wasting $ on tickets if they want/need to leave early, they have more room to roam around their seats and not piss off others by kicking them in the back, etc.). As stated above, those of us who don't live in the immediate AA area cannot logistically make it there with the family by 6pm on a Friday. So, my kids will miss out on their Big House experience this year, and extrapolating this to all other families in the same boat, the university has a weaker link to the alumni/fan community as a result.

How can you not get your kids to Ann Arbor by 6 pm ? Do you live in Chicago or something ? Whinning is not attractive. And I don't mean to single you out, many here are whinning about this. As for me this time is amazing, but I would literallly attend the spring game if it was at 4am on a monday morning.

Leaving work a couple hours early would make it easy to attend for anyone that lives within a 90 minute drive. I guess I just find it odd that someone would be so invested in Michigan that they post on a Michigan blog and then can't take a half day off work to make the game ?
Am I wrong to assume that many here are Michigan graduates with good jobs that offer some flexibility ? Even if there is no flexibility at all just use a sick day ! I understand that in some cases this is not possible, but that applies to any time, on any day.

why? because he said he would take a 1/2 day or full day of pto to do something he enjoys? that's what pto is for.
apologies if I missed something else, seemed that like was his overall message. I'd never give my guys a hard time over leaving 90 minutes early

It's a fun thing that goes on when there's not much else is going on around the Michigan sports world. MSU, Ohio State, PSU, Nebraska etc. all endorse it and we try to prevent people from coming every single year. It's also a big recruiting week where a large crowd could produce commits.
