New Rivals 100 released
https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3512/20…
Not very kind to us. Bredeson in at #60 is our only commit listed. No Walker.

It's a perfectly cromulent word.
January 18th, 2016 at 1:58 PM ^
Even then it depends on the year. Some years are deeper, some are shallower on talent. The 2011 class with Derrick Green wasn't especially talented iirc.

January 18th, 2016 at 3:32 PM ^
The 2011 class had even less talent than you think, as Green was a 2013 recruit.

I actually value Rivals more than 247 as I think there are less politics involved. Ohio State leads the country with 7 top 100 Rivals players. We have 1, MSU has 2, Penn State has 2, Al;abama has 3.

I always thought of Rivals as the top service but this made me lose a lot of respect for them. A player is as good as he is regardless of where he camps. Take 10 minutes and watch his film, its your job.

That wasn't really my point. Someone said a while ago that a prospect wasn't rated as highly because he didn't go to a rivals camp.
January 18th, 2016 at 4:12 PM ^
I know that comment was made, but I'm not sure how much truth there was to it. Keep in mind that Tim Sullivan, Brandon Brown, etc. are not the guys in charge of Rivals as a whole. And they're certainly not in charge of much with regard to Texas.
Also, even if such bias does exist - and I'm not saying it doesn't - I'm guessing there are a fair number of highly rated players who have not participated in Rivals camps. Now, perhaps the issue there is that some people find it difficult to evaluate based entirely on highlight tapes. So it legitimately could be a problem if someone never attends a camp your evaluators are at and, thus, you're left grasping at 5-minute videos.
Also, it could entirely be because they don't think Elliott is that great. Personally, I don't think he's extremely impressive. He has potential, yes, but I don't think a 3-star ranking is an unfair evaluation.

Totally random, but Rivals mentioned last week that Swenson may not end up in the class.

Sounds like (if it happens) it's basically a force out due to lack of development since he committed.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:01 PM ^
Apparently Swenson the senior is about the same player as Swenson the sophomore...
Harbaugh regime isn't as high on him as the Hoke staff was.
EDIT: Rivaks is hinting Swenson may end up at NW (not a bad landing spot).
January 18th, 2016 at 2:03 PM ^
So do we simply pull his offer after accepting his commitment? How does that work? Change it to a Gray Shirt offer?
January 18th, 2016 at 2:07 PM ^
Don't know the specifics, but I'm sure the coaching staff is saying "Hey, you should consider your options. Maybe Micihgan isn't the place for you at this time."
Why would you commit to spend 4-5 years at a place if the coach is telling you that you should look around? Kind of like saying no to a kid without pulling a scholorship... especially if it is coming from Harbaugh.
January 18th, 2016 at 3:43 PM ^
5 years ago this board was crushing this opinion of recuriting as typical SEC tactics. Times they are a changing.
January 18th, 2016 at 3:54 PM ^
Harbaugh wasn't the coach when Swenson was offerred.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:14 PM ^
If there is any truth to this I can't understand why the coaches slow played Terrance Davis.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
Swenson is a tackle. Davis is a guard.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:37 PM ^
The way I understood the situation they were waiting on Davis to see what Jean DeLance did in order to see if they had room. If Swenson was leaving they would have that room.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:44 PM ^
I don't have any idea on how they go through the process of ranking All-USA players, but Swenson was named 2nd Team All-USA. This seems like he must have done something decent this year. As always we trust the coaches because they know a lot more than we do.

That would be an awfully thin Oline class, no?
January 18th, 2016 at 2:34 PM ^
No reason to make it thick with kids the coaches dont think can hack it I guess... I'm just passing on information.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:46 PM ^
Fair point. I guess I'm still having nightmares about the olines of years past.

Will soon have #1

I appreciate the reading material on a holiday, but I'm still satisfied with our current class and excited about the next 17 days. Don't care about their top 100 in the long run.
January 18th, 2016 at 1:52 PM ^
Let's pull all of their offers! Unacceptable!!

January 18th, 2016 at 1:53 PM ^
Didn't expect to see Peters rise up in there, but I'm postively shocked that Franks (Florida commit) stayed up at #57. He was downright awful in the Army game.
January 18th, 2016 at 1:55 PM ^
Rivals is a joke.
Keeping Daelin Hayes a 5 star tells you all you need to know about their rankings.
January 18th, 2016 at 1:58 PM ^
hayes is 100% measurables and not performance. He's running in the 4.5s at 255 lbs, he's an athletic freak. He'sa boom or bust recruit.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:03 PM ^
Kid has hardly played ball in 2 years though...
January 18th, 2016 at 1:57 PM ^
I used to trust Rivals over the other services, but since the 247 composite came out I don't look at anything else. More data is usually better and figure that helps minimize the biases from camp and AA game attendance.
January 18th, 2016 at 2:00 PM ^
The composite would be by far the best metric if they ommited ESPN. ESPN's rankings are a joke most of the time. Shockingly, their top 300 is made up of disproportunately almost all players from SEC land.
