Actually, the slur was made by a member of the Georgia baseball team. The guy was kicked off of the team but kicked out of school.

It's a terrible rule now the way they enforce it. I've seen too many players ejected for just playing football.

Hurts seems to be a class guy - at least the way he handled this year.

01/09/2019 - 8:07pm Exactly! What BS.

Exactly! What BS.

01/09/2019 - 3:16pm Thought a bit that the game…

Thought a bit that the game changed for AL at the start of the second half. They drove in to the red zone both times and came away with "0" - and in both instances, there were 2 pretty obvious pass interference calls that would have given them first downs. They score on both of those drives and it's  a different game. Same thing happened on that fumble in the ND Clemson game. Replay reversed the call and gave Clemson the ball back inside it's own 10. ND scores to take the lead and that is a different game - though in the end - Clemson probably still wins.

At least starting with a somewhat clean slate when it comes to coaches.

01/09/2019 - 3:10pm While speed was certainly…

While speed was certainly some of the issue, play calling was as well. Take a Watson that had speed coverage issues against OSU and then make him navigate around a referee or a receiver and defender from an opposite crossing route and he was already a tep or two behind to start and then did not have the speed to make it up.

I agree with you. Something Michigan would not have done on it's own, yet a chance to start somewhat fresh.

They have talked to him but no word yet on what is going on.

It was reported at first that Mattison was going to be DC. Now looks like he will at best be co-DC.

01/07/2019 - 3:22pm Actually, Michigan's offense…

Actually, Michigan's offense was a perfect match for them. OSU's back 7 have been poor all year going against teams with a burner or two and the ability to get that burner the ball. The rub on them was very slow, non instinctual linebacker play, and DB's who could not cover.

01/07/2019 - 2:10pm Haven't been able to find if…

Haven't been able to find if it's actually the DC position.
They did part ways with Schiano, but also learned they told Grinch he was not going to be the DC.
Davis the LB coach is not coming back, the DB coach Taveer Johnson is probably out too. Mattison's position is not yet confirmed and they are talking to Washington.

01/06/2019 - 8:04pm If the offense only changes…

If the offense only changes to just get the 3 receivers the ball in space, the output will go way up. Michigan has one of the best receiving groups in the country.

01/06/2019 - 11:03am IMO it usually takes a few…

IMO it usually takes a few years or recruiting cycles to change personnel to fit a new strategy. However, it is already in place. We have 3+ receivers who can/would put up big numbers anywhere if they can get the ball in space. Most teams would die to get this pass catching group.

You could not be more accurate! NCAA is $ first.

Hard to tell if that is good news or bad news for Ohio State.

Nice analysis! Interesting to see there were quite a few games at higher capacity than the two playoff games!

01/04/2019 - 11:34pm Day recruited Baldwin,…

Day recruited Baldwin, finding him while recruiting a receiver from Baldwin's high school. Baldwin flew under the radar because he was only a one year starter, between two other D1 QB's.  He was also injured late in his only season as a starter. He comes from Lake Travis - which has put 8 QB's at D1 schools in the past 12 years. He is a prototypical pocket QB with a live arm who reads defenses well and goes 6'4, 225 lbs.

You certainly don't seem like a real "footballguy" - try to keep up.

01/04/2019 - 3:33pm I'm guessing NOT. I don't…

I'm guessing NOT. I don't think Davis has any kids that are being recruited - so no need to provide a job.

01/04/2019 - 3:28pm I think Day was in the…

I think Day was in the middle of an assistant (Grinch) trying to lock down the sole D Coordinator position which would mean losing Schiano. Day didn't like his had being forced - especially on a short time frame. Also, given that Ohio State had the worst safety play in years - and Grinch was safety coach - didn't help his cause. And after horrible safety play, one of Grinch's starters was knocked out during the 8th or 9th game of the year and the kid that replaced him was a big upgrade. People had been calling for a change all year - just to try someone new. I think Meyer was a lot higher on Grinch than Day.

01/04/2019 - 2:49pm I also think that Fromm is…

I also think that Fromm is more of a conservative, system QB, certainly with good skills, that runs Kirby Smart's offense well. I get somewhat of a sense that both Eason and Fields didn't have a lot of history on Smart at GA and eventually saw the writing on the wall. Even if they were to eventually start, they would still be playing in Smart's system.

College football in general is starting to change from defense first to an all-out offensive mode. It seems the kids now are more attracted to wide-open offenses and more passing.

I think Michigan was ahead of it's time, and had the right idea (maybe wrong guy) in RichRod. Wide-open offense but NO defense. Though I always got the sense that RichRod was cut loose a year early and Michigan abandoned the change too quickly. You can see the transition in college football in the coaches at Ohio State. Tressel was a defense first, field position coach, that tried not to let his offense beat him. Meyer was more of a wider open, though calculated (running QB) offensive coach that also stressed good defense, especially in the D Line, and now you have Day who looks like he may push defense somewhat but will try and outscore you in the end.

Look at the scores in the 5 years of college football playoffs. Not much defense to be found.

01/04/2019 - 2:05pm Right now, I think there are…

Right now, I think there are a fair number of people who think Baldwin has a legitimate chance to start.

01/04/2019 - 2:02pm You are absolutely correct.

You are absolutely correct.

06/29/2018 - 4:36pm That and the fact that OSU…

That and the fact that OSU could lose possibly 4 OLineman next year, chance are pretty good that some of the younger guys are going to get a shot at starting. Sounds like he made up his mind and was justifying his decision.

02/16/2018 - 9:11pm Not a chance

8 wins is the floor.

01/20/2018 - 9:51am The 1956 NY Giants

had an assistant coach who was flailing about and finally went to the players and asked what he was doing wrong and what he needed to change. Going forward, he turned out to be a pretty good coach. In fact, I think they named a trophy after him that is awarded every year toward the end of January or early February. Just saying...

11/19/2017 - 8:24am Not a UM fan but

UM will be just fine. Lost a ton of talent last year to the nfl, and the lack of depth of previous drafts has been exposed. While Hoke was pulling in top draft classes, they were top classes based on arbitrary rankings of organizations like 247 and espn. I remember a few of the higher recruits who were not pursued as strongly by competitors and gave UM a false sense of having "highly ranked" recruiting classes. Morris, Green, Peppers, (I know, Peppers was a good player, but he was highly overrated - perhaps in great part by the way he was used, the fact that he had several coaches, and played several positions - never was able to get excellent in one of them), Kalis, etc...

The previous recruiting has given a false sense of the talent available to JH and I think we will see improvement to the point that UM will be back to a very good program by 2019.
