This bodes well for the defensive line and probably recruiting as well. Not sure about everything else though. Good for him I hope he does well there.

not sure about this. Great recruiter, but never seemed to make good adjustments in game. Maybe that's on his coordinators, but just don't see Hoke as x and o. doesn't seem to have that killer instinct to be an aggressive defensive coordinator. need to have that "step on their throat" mentality, and he never seemed to have it.

Glad to see him back in football and wish the best for him.

I'm also glad to see him almost as far away from Ann Arbor as he can get.  Nothing against him, but if he'd wound up in the B1G being reminded of his time here would be a little too much.

Congratulations to him.  I wish him well & success against every opponent except Michigan, should that occur.

ETA: Jinx! Don beat me to the same sentiment.

Wish Coach the best even tho I wasn't happy with the results his last year here I felt bad he was fired because he truly loved Michigan like all of us. Hope he kills it at Oregon.

I'm sure he'll be great as a DL coach, but I've always doubted him as an Xs and Os guy. I shudder at how our defense would've looked under him without Mattison. Good luck to him though, hope he does well

Good for Brady, best of luck to him. It's a little strange of a choice given he's not a fan of the spread, but whatever. Has he ever been a DC?

LOL @ all the people who said this would never happen or was BS.

Cuz it just happened. :P

Congrats to Coach Hoke. Wish him he best and hope he has more success in this job than he had as our HC.

for going against the grain.  When all the other colleges are trying to get NFL level coordinators they go in the other direction.  Do wish Coach Hoke all the best and hope he does very well.  He set the table rather well for Harbaugh.

Oregon is capable of playing good defense given how fast their offense operates. Having your defense on the field a lot can ware them down especially when they play in a primarily spread offense conference like the Pac 12. Good look to him though

Oregon fans react

Apparently Oregon fans didn't watch the Michigan defense before Hoke arrived. Brady did a hell of a job with that unit. The offense was always the problem, which at Oregon that shouldn't be an issue.

As if Chip Kelly was going to turn down pro offers to return to Oregon.

Sure there's the Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh precedent. But neither returned to coach at the schools that they left for the pros.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Chip coaching college again in a few years if he crashes and burns in SF. But he will never be at Oregon again.

As far as the defense being soft... They gave up 42(!!!!) points to Oregon State. You can't get worse than that unless you don't field a defense, at all. Hoke doesn't have to do much to make Oregon's defense better.

The defense was fine statistically last year. We weren't giving up gobs of points or getting seriously gashed by anybody. The offense and special teams couldn't punch their way out of a paper bag. But Hoke did a fine job with the D.

That being said, the defense took a huge leap forward this year. They were much better under Harbaugh's leadership. But I think Hoke will certainly improve Oregon's defense next year. I would put a lot of money on them improving statistically in most defensive categories next season. I doubt they will ever put together an elite defense under Hoke. But they will do well enough to compete in the Pac12.

Good for him, and for them. They'll get very good defensive line coaching, even better recruiting, and some of the best mentoring from one of the most genuine, big hearted coaches in football.
