Hoke is the new DC at Oregon. As per Feldman on Twitter and commented on by our Dear Leader.

Hoke should do quite well with Oregon. He's a good defensive coach. I expect Oregon to be a tough team all around next year.

Really?  Hoke has never been a coordinator at any level and is not an X and Os guy...  Wow.  Hope he does well.

Hoke has been in several camps this past year trying to learn new things.  Hope he learns how to defense a running QB.

My friends who are diehard Oregon fans are gonna filp.

What evidence is there that he is an X and Os strategist?  What experience has he had as a coordinator where he needs to specifically gameplan, prep his team and then make in game adjustments?

Im not saying that he can not do it....however what we saw from Hoke at Michigan is him delegating the offense to Borges, and the defense to Mattison and then standing on the sidelines out of communication with no headset clapping and snapping guys on the butt.

Hoke is going to really need to up his game in order to be a good DC.

I'm just saying there's no evidence he is not an Xs and Os guy. Do any of us really know how involved he was in Mattison's defenses? Is there any evidence he can't do it? Oregon is a major program with decent resources--they wouldn't just hire someone without understanding their potential to do the job.

As to your question about experience in the D coordinator role, well of course Hoke has not had that particular job before. But that perspective would mean that nobody ever gets hired for a position they have not held before. I think the odds are generally better for success when a coach is taking a step down in responsibility (ie head coach to D coordinator) than if they are moving up (ie LBs coach to D coordinator).

Wow. Good for Hoke. But I live in Oregon, and I'd be very surprised if duck fans are happy with this. They could really use a guy with a long track record as a successful DC. And perhaps one with experience defending the spread offenses they'll see every week in the Pac12. Not sure Hoke fits the bill.

But I do wonder how much of his recruiting had to do with the fact that it's Michigan fergodsakes? Oregon already does about as well in recruiting as yet can given their location and lack of in state / regional talent.

No he doesn't...

He can wear black with a highlighter yellow O. He can wear white and do the same. Grey too...

I doubt he wears highlighter yellow, but he could do that as well.

He wore black at SDSU, pretty sure he'll do the same at Oregon. It's slimming.

Google Mark Helfrich...he's in black or grey in like half the pictures.

Seriously though, he'll wear a head set in this job, right? Nothing but the best for Hoke, great guy (minus his comments after the game we don't speak of). Hope he makes them into a solid D.

A coworker emailed me around 4pm with the news of the hire. I didn't post it on the board because I honestly didn't think it was true lol. His parents are family friends with the Hoke's.
