Take it from me, you may want to reconsider.

they play the tournament in what looks like a high school gym. I'm guessing tickets are pretty hard to get.
November 12th, 2015 at 3:23 PM ^
will come into that with a swagger unseen since we graced Maui with the Fab 5 Part 2 in 1995.

Yes. Next season we are playing in the 2k Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden with Marquette, Pitt, and SMU.
Apparently Beilein likes doing alternating NYC and warm weather tournaments, which makes sense from a recruiting standpoint.

I believe there are NCAA limits as to how frequently you can go to these tournaments, which are exempt from the usual limit of regular-season games.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:28 PM ^
I don't believe so actually. Per this article the old "two-in-four" rule on these tournaments was lifted in 2006. I don't see how they'd be restricted anyways, as it seems Michigan has been in a preseason tournament every year for a while now.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
Ah, I didn't know it had been lifted.

I longingly hope to respond in the affirmative to a future "2017 Maui Invitational Roll Call" thread.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:48 PM ^
I will be there.

Solid lineup of teams. Didn't Michigan play in this in 2011 as well?

Methodically defeated Memphis, lost a tough one to Duke, then crushed UCLA in the third place game.

We did play a game at Barclays though, right? I can't remember if it was the tournament or just a preseason game ...
November 12th, 2015 at 4:59 PM ^
You have no idea how much I'd love to see them in this tournament. Mohegan Sun is 10 minutes from my house.

This is actually a pretty dissapointing list of teams for the Maui, no real blue bloods. Usually there is a duke or north carolina or zona or something in this tourny. In addition to Indiana this years field includes Kansas and UCLA next year Wisconsin will be joined by Coonecticut, Georgetown, and UNC. Doesn't mean I wouldn't go if I had the money to do it.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:16 PM ^
Not sure the level of competition will have much impact on my decision to go to Hawaii for a fugging week to watch a few bball games, just sayin'. That said, agree, wish the field had an Arizona/UCLA/North Carolina as well.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
That's because WE'RE the blue blood. :)
November 12th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
I actually hope to be moving to Hawaii by the middle of 2017. Sounds like perfect timing!
November 12th, 2015 at 3:44 PM ^
I envy you.
November 12th, 2015 at 5:01 PM ^
If that's true, why don't you do the same? :-)
I've visited Hawai'i several times, and it's a wonderful place. I'd absolutely hate to live there, though, and I'm not kidding. The cost of living is outrageous, "noon" football games start at 6 AM, and after you've spent a few days doing the touristy things... you'll find that you live on an island, it's prohibitively expensive to get off of that island except to go to another island nearby, and you're basically stuck there.
For a certain personality type, that's nirvana. For me -- I'd go stir-crazy.

Is this the invitational where MGoBlog has a 4 ticket and all expenses paid travel package giveaway raffle to users with 40K+ MGo points....or am I mixing it up with another invitational?

You're thinking of the La Paz Roundball Classic. Tickets offered for the best comment in any political thread.

The one you're thinking of is the Great Alaskan Shootout. Alaska is a great place to be in late November - almost as nice as Hawaii.
November 12th, 2015 at 3:59 PM ^
Who remembers the Great Alaska Shootout from 2007? Bad times...
November 12th, 2015 at 4:04 PM ^
I remember when Terry Mills and Loy Vaught got lost riding snowmobiles at the Great Alaska Shootout in the 80's.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:08 PM ^
Didn't Glen Rice get lost doing something else?......
November 12th, 2015 at 4:18 PM ^
He could see Russia from her vagina, so I'm not sure how lost he was really...

"Who's nailin' Palin." lmao

Don't get the idea that it's gotta be blue-blooded to be good. I mean anyone with that line of thinking had better never complain that all ESPN wants to talk about is Duke. There are six teams in there who are all really good (or could be - Cal) with plenty of accomplishments lately and who could win that tourney.

BYU is probably a better football team this year than Georgia. Which team would you rather have played in the big house this year? Playing established programs is more fun.
November 12th, 2015 at 4:05 PM ^
is better than BYU, BYU is just not that good.
November 12th, 2015 at 6:00 PM ^
"Who would you rather" is a different point entirely than "is it interesting or not?" BYU's a very interesting matchup.
Also, Marquette is a very established program. Every bit as much as Arizona.
