Rudock #22 QB

Submitted by WestQuad on

AP Ranks Rudock the #22 QB.

Edit: O.k. I deserve the negs for linking to a slide show. However, I thought it was surprising that he was on the list at all considering that the AP is a somewhat legit/credible source. As mentioned below it is interesting that Cardale was #7 and Cook was #2.

I think we'll see some growth from him in the next few weeks. Statistically, he's having his worst year. Regress to the mean or something - I didn't take stats.

I don't think he's the number 2 QB. I'd probably put him top 3-5. He'll prob be drafted late first, early second round. He mainly just makes big plays when they're needed and otherwise minimizes turnovers. I definitely don't think he's a world beater, but I think he's a pretty damn good QB. I'd say he's comparable to Chad Henne, who I also thought was a pretty damn good QB.

I don't know. Not to be negative, but Cousins was overrate which shows in NFL. These guys have been pretty used to very good OL and pretty incompetent pass tush from B1G teams. To be in top 5, I would like to see what he does when he plays against a good D. I hope M can bring the house when we play them. If he holds up, I would agree. If not, he is overrated. Goos college QB, but top 5 is still in question.

State's offense wasn't very impressive at the start of that season. I'd say UM's is already better. They had a pretty good defense also that year if I remember correctly. Hmmm, sounds kind of similar don't you think? One difference though...the good guys have JMFH!

Brian Greise. I think you can throw that first game out the window, it was his first game with a new team and system and lots of pressure, I have enjoyed watching the last couple games. Reminds be of pre RR Michigan. I expect by the end of this year this board will love them some Rudock.

When I read the title I first thought you were confused about what number he wore. Then I wondered how many Big Ten quarterbacks there were that Rudock could be the 22 best.

22 in the country seems a stretch. But Connor Cook also isn't the second best and Cardale Jones is no where near the top ten.

"I served with Brian Griese. I knew Brian GrieseBrian Griese was a friend of mine. Jake Rudock, you're no Brian Griese."

... No offense intended to Jake, who is a perfectly serviceable QB.

You guys say that, but you do not know.  People said that Griese would never make it in the pros.  Many scouts laughed when the Broncos' reached to draft Griese in the 3rd round.  His NFL career lasted a long time.

Before the 98 draft, Ron Hughes who was the Director of Scouting for the Lions (and now works for the Steelers) was on WDFN talking about players that they may draft.  He flat out said that Griese was too slow and had a weak arm.  He pointed out that in the Rose Bowl, Brian had to take 2 shuffle steps just to throw the ball 50 years to hit Tai Streets for those TDs.

I remember those things very well.

Rudock has a stronger arm and is much faster than Griese.  He is also pretty accurate.  If he can get the mental thing down and be more confident in his throws, he can be a very good QB.

People had better start supporting Rudock because he is the only possibility of this team finishing with more than 9 wins.

Do you think Shane Morris or Speight would do better??

That's easy to say in retrospect. But at the time, the 1995 and 1996 wins over Ohio State were huge upsets. Both years, Ohio State was rolling through everybody, ranked in the top 5--while Michigan was scuffling through their seasons. Sure, the talent on the respective rosters was always comparable--but sometimes you lose sight of that when you are 6-4 and about to take on a team that's 9-0.

I was living in Tennessee in 1995, going to school and used to listen to a lot of SEC talk radio.  This was in Brian's first year as a starter and he was struggling after Dreisbach went down with the hand injury.

The SEC guys were saying "Boy....this kid is Bob Griese's son, but he just flat out sucks!"

So its a process...
