So....this ain't good.
Team source: "people at Schembechler are freaking out right now." Says decision on potential postponement/new site should come Thursday.

Or it would be like announcing a crowd of 100,000+ when there are clearly 20,000 empty seats. Oh wait.

Too soon.

If someone were to give you crap about Michigan's 100k streak being over due to a home game being announced literally two days in advance of it being played just give them this look and go on with your life
September 30th, 2015 at 4:16 PM ^
If it wasn't 100k there's no way M would count it towards the streak. It's more like letting EMU use some venue after an emergency than a Michigan home game.

Maybe they could move the game to Rynearson?

I'd love that but it seems less likely than just a stadium closer by -- maybe a domed one. But having no knowledge of that area or NFL stadiums I wouldn't know if that was even possible. Though, I would totally enjoy another random home game.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:15 PM ^
There are no domes around here (DC area). And all the close-by NFL stadiums are under the same threat: DC, Balt, Philly, NY.
The closest safe stadiums of any size are Penn State or Pitt / Pittsburgh.
Penn State is using theirs at noon (double-header anyone?). Pitt's is free on Saturday.

Just clear a bunch of seats out of the Verizon Center. No problem.

No reason the boys can't play by Arena Football rules (and in an arena), for just one week.

They could also play in Morgantown, which is about a 3.5 hour drive from DC. WVU is at Oklahoma on Saturday, the stadium seats about 60k.

UVA is even closer and far enough west to be out of the hurricane path.

Ford Field, Saturday night. It's the Football Affected By Natural Disaster location of choice.

Weather is always a factor when you travel, yes. But usually it's a factor in whether or not you get to your destination on time. Possibly in this scenario, people arrive at their destination, and due to weather the main attraction has gone elsewhere.

Exactly, sometime tomorrow will be state of emergency for many cities and states up and down the coast. Then they start shutting public transporation down after Friday night. Unless this thing changes course abruptly, nobody's flying out of DC Sunday. I am sure they are freaked out about that. Moving to noon is only option.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:20 PM ^
Once you are required to move the game time, there aren't many rules they have to obey.
9 am is an option. Friday afternoon or evening are options. Because it's BTN, there is probably even a push by the network to make it one of those times (because they already have a football telecast scheduled for noon).
September 30th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
They have access to them all day on saturday, but only on saturdays.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:32 PM ^
But they would have to open that extra game channel and disrupt their original schedule. That's do-able, but I would imagine that they wouldn't mind having a Friday night telecast or a Saturday morning telecast that doesn't force them to split their audience.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
I thought they would do, and perhaps even send out a public service announcement that says "don't come to this game." But why would people at Schembechler hall be freaking out about that?
September 30th, 2015 at 4:30 PM ^
I have college friends in the DC area and we are having a reunion for the game. This will be the first time I see them in a couple years. I'm not gonna be a happy camper if this game is moved.

Does BOX House happen to refer to a residence in East Lansing?

It's the flying out part that is the problem. There's no way the authorities want thousands of Michigan fans stranded in the area or at the airport on Sunday.
Even now, it's hard to imagine there are many available seats on flights out Saturday afternoon/evening. So I'm not sure a noon game time would solve the problem, since people might still be unable to get home after the game.

Heinz Field has one of the worst fields, if not the worst, in the NFL. If they play a game on Thursday, our game two days later will be on a joke of a field.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:02 PM ^
I noted that Saturday night departure flights will be on time. Its the Sunday flights that will be tricky.
A midnight departure will only have rain to deal with. Sunday will bring the heavier stuff with high winds.
September 30th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
It's an 8:00 game. It won't end until midnight. You could not get to any local airport - DCA, BWI, IAD - before 1:00 AM. They don't have any 2:00 AM flights.
So every flight out of the game is going to be a Sunday flight if they don't change the time of the game.

I wonder if Hackett would charter a flight to leave at 2am to get the guys home?
September 30th, 2015 at 6:13 PM ^
And 20,000 of their fans too.
