Please don't let that happen. First of all, I doubt chip gets fired this year. Second, Helfrich and Co would have to agree to take a demotion. You can't fire a coach that is one year removed from a title game appearance.

But Oregon is a program that is lucky as hell lately ala Ohio state, so it'll probably happen.

Unless it's the NFL, as in the case of the Broncos firing John Fox a year after playing in the SB.

Stuff like this is why I doubt Harbaugh returns to the league. He experienced firsthand that success, both recently and historically, rarely means any sort of job security.

Nor does having major success mean a coach will be remembered much for it; Tom Coughlin probably won't be, despite two Super Bowl wins.

Pretty sure the announcers just said something along the lines of- I hate preseason rankings because it keeps deserving teams like Utah, Michigan, and northwestern out of the top 10

After several drinks... I have decided the way Utes fans make a "U" with their hands reminds me of the "W" for "whatever"  that sorority girls used to do in the 90's. It also reminds me of a great ben folds album... I should probably quit drinking and go to bed.

Herbie just tweeted he'd have Utah as "next 2" in playoff chase just outside top 4.

Utah is going to scream into top 8 based on this - but just brutal next few weeks.  If they win the next 3 weeks they could be ranked #1 or #2 - no joke. Cal, ASU, USC.  Meanwhile OSU and MSU will be playing shit team #1, shit team #2, and shit team #3 ala rutgers, purdues.

Based on this year alone it should not be, but unfort MSU has built up cache with a rose and cotton bowl win and 11 win seasons so has the benefit of the doubt.  One team won at home by a few pts and the other went into opponents home and beat them by 40.  That team also has a quality win over a P5 team at home while the other is playing patty cakes with 2 MAC teams.

UNLV up 80-8 right now. We held them to 7 points. Yeah Michigan's stock is up. Caveat being UNLV is playing Idaho St but still, combine that with Utah's ass stomp on Oregon things are looking good.

This season, though only 4 weeks old to this point now, has been exceedingly head-scratchingly crazy. I doubt we'll ever match the insanity of 2007, but this could end up a close 2nd.

Colorado got 5 downs to beat Missouri. How no one in the stadium noticed this, I have no clue.

Plus Colorado had a loss to Illinois, of all teams, and still was the AP national champions.  Virginia was #1 in November(!).  And Georgia Tech went undefeated (with a tie @ NC) but never got to #1 in the AP.  In fact they have never been #1 AP in their history -- they are the team with the most Top 25 appearances never to be #1.

More strangeness: MSU had a preseason first-place vote but were #23 overall.  They started 0-1-1 and moved up to #22 (but lost their first place vote).  Then they beat the "#1" team in the nation (3-1 Michigan) by tripping Desmond Howard.

1990 was the first year in college football where you were allowed to spike the ball to stop the clock. The rule was so new that nobody noticed. Colorado spiked the ball on 4th down and nobody in Missouri's stadium reacted. Then the Buff's score on 5th down and goal. Still, nobody noticed. The head official was driving home from the stadium when it finally hit him what had happened. And he had to pull over to the side of the road because he had to throw up.
