It ended with that sort of squiggly thing with a dot under it, so I think so.

Yes, Michigan would make the playoff. No, that's not going to happen.

Assuming a Big Ten championship game win too, we'd definitely be in. Utah is a good loss. They moved up to No. 18 in the latest AP Poll.

Well ya, pretty much like how OSU lost to VA tech last year then ran the table. Would be nice

Based on the "Ole Miss" ranking-logic all we need to do is beat the #2 team and we'll move up to #3! So yes is the answer to your question. Since this isn't the SEC though, I think if we won both games it woudl just mean that no B1G team would be in the playoffs. Who's ready for a TCU vs. Ole Miss championship game!

If we beat either would that be a 'grab the goal posts' situation?

If we beat BYU we will definitely be in the others receiving votes category.
However, I don't think it will be enough to get us in unless we blow them out.
Beating Maryland wouldn't get us in unless a bunch of the lower top 25 teams lose that weekend.
However, if we beat BYU, Maryland and Northwestern, especially if Northwestern holds serve against Ball State and Minnesota (at home), we should 100% be ranked. I'd guess about #23 ish.
September 20th, 2015 at 2:40 PM ^
Probably. Win next week against BYU probably gets Michigan close, though.

No way.
If we are 5-1 with wins over ranked BYU and Northwestern, along with a 7 point Week 1 road loss to a ranked team, there is no way we wouldn't be ranked. Maybe if Utah gets absolutely destroyed by both Oregon (maybe?) and Cal in SLC (not likely). Even then we'd still have a shot.

A 6-1 power 5 team is definitely ranked that deep into the season. Last year a 6-1 team with its only loss to a good team was good enough to be ranked in the 10-20 range. Most of your 20-25 teams are two loss teams that deep into the season.

OSU, TCU, LSU are my picks for the top 3 going into the playoff. I'm just not sure who will get that last spot. I'm actually leaning Notre Dame or FSU. FSU because of schedule, ND because they probably just beat the best team left on their schedule and the QB will get better week by week.

The poll means nothing. For a conference to get two teams in the playoff they will need two conferences to produce 2 loss champions.

Our defense will continue to improve and will be wrecking teams by the end of the year (which is good since Ohio State is at the end of the year). Durkin knows what he is doing as does Mattison. Wormley will continue to be a revelation and the secondary will get better.
Harbaugh has a track record of improving teams over the year (it's called developing talent). We haven't seen much of this developing of talent over the last half decade or more so people here are less inclined to acknowledge it's impact going forward. Bottom line, offense will get better.

I'd like to see how our defense holds up in coverage against BYU before annointing this defense.
I think we'll hold up nicely against most running teams, but we haven't been tested by a QB that can throw the ball all over the field.

Right, and TCU has looked like world beaters? MSU has a win over Oregon. TCU has....Minnesota.

TCU will lose at some point this season. They've had an insane amount of injures on defense. I think they are down like 6 starters on defense since the start of the year.
September 20th, 2015 at 2:58 PM ^
They beat Oregon. That's a big feather. I don't think TCU has that do theyd?

So right now we have the, #1,2,17,18,and 22nd ranked team on our schedule. I think thats good enough for BERT
September 20th, 2015 at 2:48 PM ^
Other than that UCLA is clearly overrated and will lose sometime soon. Might actually vote Ole Miss #1 at this point
September 20th, 2015 at 2:50 PM ^
The full poll is here - we'll run with the thread generating more discussion.
The distribution by conference now looks like this, if I counted right -
Pac-12 - 6
SEC - 6
Big Ten - 4
Big 12 - 4
ACC - 3
Independents - 2
