Semi OT - serious question that WD is afraid to ask...

Submitted by MGJS SuperKick Party on
i know this will get negged to shit, and I am only posting this to make a point to our favorite obsessed fan... WD has a great opportunity to work in the press box going forward this season, and potentially in the future. Tomorrow is his first test run. Ok here comes the fun part -- Me, LongLiveB0, and LSAClassof2000 have all attempted to talk him out of wearing a jersey to the press box and dress more conservative (Think Jay Harbaugh) as opposed to jersey, sweatbands and Harbaugh Khakis. What do you guys think? I am fully anticipating this getting deleted shortly, but it's to prove a point to our idiot buddy. I am sure he will post here to defend his thought process soon enough...

Everyone is giving you great advice here WD. Dress for the job you want, not as if it's just another day regardless of whether this guy knows how different you are.

Do you want to be sitting in your cubicle at some non-descript business a decade from now doing the "what if" game? If it doesn't work out don't let it be because you wouldn't dress professionally for one game. Khakis and polo at the very least.

Oh and best of luck to ya! Go blue!

What "if"  WD doesn't have anything but Jerseys?  Have you seen the photos of his room?

Entirely possible.

I said this to him already on the Twitter but you cannot go in any type of logo or apparel to the game and be taken seriously. Do you work for the University (radio/video)? Okay, that's your uniform. Act like a pro

Another reason why I love this site in addition to the great insight on Michigan sports. This thread actually has real advice from fellow mgobloggers who want WD to succeed. It's like WD is all of our little brother. Or the mgoblog mascot.

(PS: I agree with the majority. Skip the jersey until you leave the press box.)

Go to Mden The Victors edition store.  Buy a button down M emblem shirt blue or white not the dark navy.  Then buy some khaki dockers there.  Don't wear tennis shoes and you are done.  Dress like a rich donor without the blazer.

There's a time and a place for everything. And this is not the time and the place for a jersey. But I guess if you insist, it could be a life lesson that will stick with you. Personally, I've never worn a jersey. My son wears them, but he actually still plays ball. Think about it:  how often do you see former players wear jerseys? It isn't common, and if they are worn, it is generally at home in their den. Have you ever seen Harbaugh wear a jersey? Obama? Mary Sue Coleman? Just isn't done.

I didn't know people were still so judgmental about what other people were wearing. Thank goodness I work in an industry where no one gives 2 s%$&s about what I wear to work. Hell, I still occasionally wear Michigan & Red Wings jerseys to work and I'm probably older than most of you. In all seriousness, just ask your friend if it is important for you to follow Press Box Dress Code for the pre-game time you will be up there. Probably better to err on the side of caution since the press box is supposed to be a "no cheering" zone. I don't know if that rule applies to pre-game as well.

Don't wear a god damn jersey. I know you're only going to be up there before the game but you still have to go through the Press Box and people will look at you like ''what the fuck?''. This is coming from a 21 year old that dresses casually 99% of the time.

Nine years ago for going to a post game presser at the Palace in casual clothing. So yeah, if it's supposed to be professional, keep it professional.

In Endzone, JUB describes the actual usage behind "This is Michigan" as an admonishment for something not done to Michigan standards. You don't want them to say: " Come on WD. You're dressed like that? This is Michigan!" Now, once you head back to your seat, find a way to quick change (a phone booth perhaps - wait, they don't have those anymore) into whatever the appropriate lucky combination of clothing is.

I have been in the press box many times as a camera op. Wear a Michigan polo. Something nice. What does the guy you might be working for wear? I think he will lead you in the right direction. I am a Michigan fan, and when I work for ESPN, abc, Btn. I can't wear my Michigan gear.. I am still a fan, I just cheer quietly. And do my job. good luck, it's up to you on how serious you take it. I hope it goes well.

I once got dinged in a job interview for not dressing appropriately enough. What you wear is one of the first things people notice about you. (I'm filing this away for when my children get their first jobs)

You can wear whatever you want, bro.
But, folks will judge you however THEY want.
100 people here are saying the same thing: ask your friend. Do what he says.
Enjoy the time upstairs and enjoy the game.

Every day, everywhere you go you are potentially interviewing for your next job depending on who you meet. At some point, you will need a job, even if only to continue you superfandom lifestyle- and this could turn into one.

Living in your mom's basement when you're 30 because "you ain't got no job," watching the games while wiping Doritos cheese on one of your jerseys isn't going to attract a mate. And isn't the ultimate goal in life to grow the number of people who love Michigan by making little WDs?

Absolutely, 100% dress in khakis, shirt ...something football game bus. casual. Definitely do not wear a jersey if this is in any way more than a Fan Contest! And enjoy it- awesome!!

...in life and in the Press Box! It is the only option. Consider that if you are not authentic and you dress... however, you may get noticed for something, but then you will then have to be full of BS for the rest of your life. And also, if you are dressed like every other brown noser you will no doubt just blend in. A lemming. On the other hand, you go as you. In that case you are unique, and no matter what happens, you get to be you for the rest of it. Don't listen to these followers. Be a leader!

I've specifically NOT hired people because they didn't dress appropriately to an interview. My perspective is that unless you want to be seen as a kid, don't act or dress like one. It blows me away the number of people who still don't dress appropriately in my building. Lucky for them, we're merging departments with a business-casual-jeans policy, so they're going to fit in better. You already work hard (obsessively, might be a better word) at your Michigan fandom, so just put that energy into being professional and you'll do very well. As much as people (myself included) give you shit about your "SuperGuide," it's actually above-and-beyond work that will usually get you rewarded in real life. Khakis, button-up shirt (white, blue M emblem of you can get one in time), and I, personally, would grab a navy blazer instead of a jacket. That's what I would wear. You can always take the blazer off and hang it professionally on your chair back. You'll look like a pro and get treated as such. Good luck, dude.

I didn't see what he was doing in the box. I thought perhaps it was another type of internship. Filming-wise, I would do what my friend in the videography business do and just go with a nice polo and khakis, then.
