Friday Night Drinking And Summer is Almost Gone Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

So I wake up from a much-needed power nap to find no friday night drinking thread.  What the heck is going on around here?   We are 13 days from the season opener and we are getting very close to the end of summer.   Yesterday I watched oldest son's football scrimmage and it felt alot more like October up here than mid-August.  Two questions:

1.  Your drink of choice tonight is....

2.   Your plans to squeeze the most juice out of what is left of summer is/are....

Have a great weekend while you watch for surfacing subs.

Submarine executing emergency surfacing by blowing its ballast tanks ...

Smaller brewery in Chicago called Atlas Brewing; they started packaging not so long ago. Rookery Rye IPA. Not bad. If you're ever in Chicago, check out their brewpub on Lincoln ave, then head up the road to Delilah's, one of the best bars in the city.

I can't cook to save my soul, but I can and have tended bar. When you own a restaurant you need a "signature" drink list. So for a long time I've been experimenting with triangle drinks of all types. That hobby did not end when I sold my restaurant. So for your enjoyment here is my latest:

The dry chocolate french ginger martini

1 part Domain Canton Ginger Liquor

1 part Gray Goose Orange Vodka

1 part Dark Godiva Chocolate Liqour

1 part Dark Creme de Coco

1 1/2 parts Silver Patron

Blend in a shaker with lots of ice and shake until the steel is frosty

Pour into a cold martini glass and garnish with a slice of orange and a piece of dark chocolate.

If that is not sweet enough substitute Cointreau for the vodka

Happy imbibing

We may make a day of it in DC.  Scout out Kangaroo Boxing Club for lunch, walk the dog and wife at the Tidal Basin and the Mall.  Dinner in Capital Hill.

Had a Hoffbrau Marzen, sipping a Not Your Father's Root Beer...will wash it all down with Weller Special Reserve

Of course. And more than one, Xtra! Then there's getting the bride's new hot tub hooked up this weekend. There's a trencher at Home Depot with my name on it for the AM. But the best part of the rest of the summer will be loading up the turbo Mooney and bringing the MGoDaughter out for her sophomore year. And watching the start of the Harbaugh Era from Ann Arbor!

I have a feeling that hard work will pay off once the hot tub is up and running. Nothing better than being with your wife in the hot tub late at night under the stars.... Great way to finish off the summer

of that trip, including a bombing run over da 'utes' stadium - it can be like the death star video with hoke and harbaugh, but you get to live it.  you can drop flour bombs on the utes.  there is a funny story that i'll share about a couple of my alaska buddies, bush pilots and big-heavy pilots some day when we all hook up for beers at the big house.   you'll get a laugh out of it.

The MGoSophomore air taxi ride will be eastward only, and will leave here a few days before the game. SLC is only a short hop for us (from Boulder) but dorm move-in is 8am Fri. Would take a better pilot than me to see the game, then jump in the plane and fly 6 hours to A2. And that would be without beers, and, ahem, I plan on having some. I suspect I'll have a hard enough time getting up Fri AM as is. Look forward to those stories though, and the beers. Think there will be some mighty big tailgates down the road for all of us.

To be followed with a Brewery Vivant Triomphe. As for more summer fun, seeing Earth, Wind, and Fire tomorrow night and going to a major foodie fest next weekend.

Moving my son into his new house in A2. We just ran up to Brown Jug for a beer and a burger. Now we're back at his house and I'm stealing the Coors Light that was left in the fridge.

Got home from work and starting sampling from my bourbon collection:

1.) Started drinking the following bourbons in this order (one double of each): Weller's 12 year, George T. Stagg barrel strength and Pappy Van Winkle 12 year.  I followed that up by drinking Snake River Stampede 8 year (blended rye) with a splash of coke

2.) The plans for the rest of my summer are to make my house on 2 acres I just moved into in Bozeman, MT more badass.  Put in a 100, 80 and 60 yard pitching range to work on my golf game.  I plan on building horseshoe pits this weekend and drinking copious amounts of whiskey until Monday when I start school back up...

Counting down the hours until I get to see HARBAUGH and the boys start the fall off in the appropriate way with a W @ Utah in a hard fought game!!!
