Thanks for the heads up!  My son is EA applied and is with his mother currently, so I'll be sure to check in with him.  He got a 1590 on his SAT (perfect 800 in math - end humblebrag) so I hope it is only a formality.  He did get deferred at his top choice (MIT).

Update: He is in!  Woooot!!!

Dry January for the third…

Dry January for the third year for my wife and me.  We actually scatter dry months throughout the year, including dry May and September as of last year.  We use it to rest our livers and as a boost for weight loss efforts.  I’m actually going to try for dry Feb/March this year to get in tip top shape for a trip to Italy.

I don’t replace with anything in particular, just nonalcoholic beverages.  I do partake in more herbal remedies while abstaining from alcohol.

Not a doctor but following a lot of Fantasy info.  They have surgical therapy now that puts a flexible band over the tissue to stabilize it to the bone while still allowing for full range of motion.  That's what I understand at least.  It actually decreases the amount of time needed to heal enough for play.

My best move was to take…

My best move was to take scoring out of practice in the classic sense of scoring goals.  I made up a game of "keep away" where points were scored for consecutive passes accomplished.  Double points if you yelled out your teammate's name while making the pass.  We crushed the league and never had a goal scoring drill until the final 15 minutes of practice.  Everyone wants to shoot - soccer is a game of ball possession, spacing, and understanding of others' positioning.  At the younger levels being willing to look behind and make that pass will overwhelm the competition.

There is a fix for that. …

There is a fix for that.  See my post below.

I'd recommend a Country…

I'd recommend a Country Clipper - tough as nails, made in the USA, solid steel deck and the best part is the joystick.  You can actually enjoy a beer while mowing - feels like you're driving a mech.  I had a private disc golf course for a decade and my Clipper kept 15 acres mowed all summer to disc golf tournament quality.

There's also a feature that allows the deck to be stood up like a huge kickstand without having to drop it off the mower.  That allows access for cleaning the deck and removing/sharpening the blades much more easily than most zero turns.

I have a job that pays me …

I have a job that pays me $35 an hour and I have been working my whole career to become efficient enough at my work to get everything done in roughly half the time of other people performing the same work.  This efficiency allows me more time in the work day to get the rest of my life's work done - grocery shopping, planning vacations, household budgeting, reading MGoBlog, etc.  I prefer to look at it as I am worth $70 an hour and am happy to work 20 hours a week.  I get glowing reviews, have been promoted a couple times, and now actually am a supervisor in addition to my other responsibilities.  Before becoming a supervisor I probably was only working about 10-15 hours a week but for less money, so probably still around $70 per hour.

I feel absolutely no guilt or shame for this.  Work life balance is important when you can get it.

Henderson as a 1st rounder over Corum is laughable.

I have 3 brackets in my money pool.  My best has 10 correct in the Sweet 16 (3rd in possible points remaining) and a second has 9 correct (7th in possible points remaining).  There are 52 brackets entered so I'm pretty happy with this so far.

I basically just shaded the B10 throughout and that has worked out so far.  Seth's tool really helped as well for shorting Baylor and Kansas.  I always bet against Arizona as a rule.

I use open ended Google Flights - Put in the dates and the airport you want to fly out of and let'r rip.  It'll show you the cost to every place in the world and you can set limits on price, number of layovers, total trip duration, etc.  This is pretty much how I find every leisure trip I take - always feels good to get great value on the price up front imo.

It was satisfying to have so many OP posts to neg in this thread.  What a POS post with no substance to the incident in question at all.  Get this s*** out of here.

Was wondering if Corum might have been feeling a bit of patellar tendonitis and then got a helmet right on the tendon.  I've bumped my knee while experiencing that tendonitis and it made me see white and almost piss myself from the pain.  One of the only reasons I could come up with that the staff would allow him to test it again without an MRI first.

Glad to have the opportunity…

Glad to have the opportunity to witness this matchup.  This team makes us proud already - one more step to immortality.  It's my wife's birthday and we'll be celebrating in style whatever happens.

It's not quite right to say Diabate's family moved to Florida when he was a teen.  He moved all by himself - quite an experience that should be highlighted.

I snagged two for me and my daughter.  There were only 4 left at that point - now zero.  I was hoping to snag the other two for my wife and step son... bummer.

Good on you for writing this…

Good on you for writing this.

Divorce was devastating for me personally, and it happened abruptly without warning.  17 years flushed away in a few weeks.  I felt like life had basically ended and that happiness was never to come my way again.

I clung to my kids, while being careful not to burden them with my emotional vulnerability.  I worked very hard to overcome my bitter feelings towards their mother so that we could forge a co-parenting lifestyle that the kids could thrive in.  I went through a lot of counseling - my kids did too.

I learned to find and love myself as an individual.  It took years and alienated many friends in the process.  After knowing nothing else than my relationship with my ex since college, I became my own person.

Then something magical happened.  Years later, when I'd stopped looking for someone to fill that void in my life, the perfect someone came along and filled it proper.  No coincidence that she was divorced as well.  Growing our relationship was incredible and so rewarding, and now I'm married again to the person that my more mature self can appreciate on a level that became impossible with my first wife.  That first wife is still a large part of my life though, and we have a new found respect for each other as well, and a solid platform of co-parenting that continues to see our kids thrive.

I hope that Brian's recent experiences can lead him on a righteous journey of self discovery, and that he can also emerge better for it in the end.  It's certainly difficult to see the possibilities when it all comes down around you.

Brian,

You have been a hero of mine for as long as I can remember following M sports online.  I am sorry to hear of your struggles.  Please know that you have immense value to this fan, and that I enjoyed meeting you in person several years ago.  You are a celebrity - you don't have anything to prove in this.  Delegating MGoBlog to others is perfectly acceptable as often as needed.  You built this and we have come.  Concentrate on yourself and your own needs as much as possible - we adore you.

Had amazing seats on the 50 …

Had amazing seats on the 50 - left with my head bowed to sincerely embarrassed Badger fans apologizing for the asswhooping their team was handing us.  All before the first half even ended.  Got some great Thai fusion and wanted to fight anyone in red when McCaffery was targeted the second time.  Was taking a nap before the game ended.

Thank you Brian for the great column.  I am with you in acceptance.  My fall Saturdays seem so suddenly wide open and I can't stop my growing optimism for what I can accomplish with all this extra time on my hands.

Still some available.  Get on it people!

So we have Duncan to vouch for Juwan, but we should have another former Heat player that could have a potential impact: Derrick Walton.  I would seem that Walton would be quite available to Franz Wagner these days.

I am currently on the Keto…

I am currently on the Keto Diet plan with the same goals you posted (75% fat).  I am 41 and have had extra weight on me since college.  My take on it so far:

On the surface, as a scientist, eating a keto diet makes a lot of sense.  Our species evolved without much access to sugar or other refined carbohydrates.  A diet rich in carbs isn't how our bodies were refined to operate based on thousands of years of evolution.

I haven't lost a lot of weight - 12 lbs in roughly 2 months - but it has been a consistent drop without fluctuations.  I haven't had any problems keeping it off despite a couple of carb cheat days mixed in.

I was a serious snorer, with apnea.  Within a week of starting the keto diet I stopped snoring completely.  Some nights I have had some mild snoring - seemingly related to allergies - but have not had a bout of apnea since starting the diet.  I also have no more problems with acid reflux, despite a long history of it.  I take no meds at this point.

I can't speak to the long term implications for heart health, but many recent studies have debunked saturated fats as the culprit and I personally believe sugar is much worse for your heart.  I plan to stay on the keto diet as my normal diet going forward.

Has Rutger as top 50 so far.  Lil' Bro better watch out tonight.

I'm thinking we'll try…

I'm thinking we'll try parking in one of the campus lots along Sheridan and take the shuttle to the stadium.  Then we can have several adults hoof it back after the game (pretty sure the shuttles after will be hard to get a spot on) to get the cars and pick a rendevouz point to pick up the rest of the crew. Any obvious holes in that plan?

What's the best bet for…

What's the best bet for parking with tailgating around the stadium?  Our group has a block of 26 tickets that includes many smallish children.  We're staying at a vacation rental near O'hare and packing cars as tight as possible to limit the spots needed.

I would also like to hear…

I would also like to hear more opinions about parking.  The university lots are supposedly free, but look small - any other options?

They should move it to…

They should move it to Nazareth.

Oh, shit, listen - really I’m a good guy.  And honest guy, really!  Except that one time.  But really, I care about women!  I have a wife and daughters and they need not fear me!  Maybe that guy who beats women that I kept around for years, but not me!  I look forward to joining my team once my university buries it’s morals so deep they’ll never find them again.

I and a group of 25 friends landed 26 tickets in a block through their ticket office over the phone.  This was the morning they were put on sale though, and I heard that they sold out pretty quickly.

I am pumped to see Michigan play somewhere other than the Big House.  Only other away game I've seen live was Utah 2015.

To your question - I'd wait until NW trips up in the nonconference and then pluck some aftermarket seats.

To make the clutch hit even more impressive...

Brock Keener is playing with a broken thumb on his glove hand!  Keener made an impressive throw from his knees in the top of the 6th to catch an attempted base thief in the act as well.

Let's GO BLUE!!!!

Yep.

I knew I kept this avatar for something.

The refs were one sided.

Watched with friends and we all were discussing how the refs seemed to have an agenda. From when Michigan was up 7 to when Nova got up 15 this went on.

Michigan lost because they couldn't hit their shots and Nova had someone that couldn't miss. If the game had remained close though, I don't doubt that we would have ended up extremely salty about the zebras.
