Shane holding his own?
Fogive me if this isn't relevant (as it is a tweet of an opinion of a person who knew of a friend that saw) and oh this is my first post so i get a mulligan if i shank it ..
But according to Gregg Henson the battle is going strong, and looks like Morris is leading

Just got word that Morris is better than Rudock, I am stunned. https://t.co/udj7uc8kko

He reported 8 mil a year. Remember the Andy Moeller "getting the band back together" tweet from Harbaugh he reported and Harbaugh didn't have twitter.
August 10th, 2015 at 3:32 PM ^
that same rumor amongst some old cronies before Henson piped in. As I heard it, it wasn't a tweet but a group text.
Either way, he's a hack. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Prove it.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:35 PM ^
And the 100 former Michigan players sending an e-mail to the Board of Trustees comparing Brandon to Hitler.
That was about as wrong as wrong gets.
It's clear he's somebody's useful idiot, which means he gets some good information. It's also clear he has no clue how to evaluate any of it.
August 10th, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
August 10th, 2015 at 4:05 PM ^
But the e-mail Henson published included banter among the players (let alone the Hitler comment) that wouldn't have been intended to be included in a final version. It's possible somebody drunkenly forwarded the draft to the board, but if that's what happened a competent reporter would have reported it that way.
My minimal expectations for a reporter are that when a source forwards him something, he'll make some effort to figure out what he's been sent and present it accordingly. Somebody forwarded Henson an e-mail circulating among some former players, kicking around ideas for a letter to the Board. Henson reported it as if it were the final version.
Any reporter with half a gram of sense would have noticed the Hitler stuff, noticed that the e-mail seemed to be addressing the Board as "boys," wondered if maybe he had the frame wrong and gone back to his source for an explanation.
Either Henson's an idiot or he's the most asinine clickbaiter in the history of journalism. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's an idiot.

"I got all the details wrong but it's still true that a lot of football alums hate Brandon" is a pretty low bar for a reporter.
Nobody doubts that part of the story--it was common knowledge around here, as I recall, long before Henson broke the news to us.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:45 PM ^
Calm yourself, Gregg.
August 10th, 2015 at 3:22 PM ^
maybe a regent. He's been right about the things discussed at very high levels at the university.
Does he have good sources within the football program? I think that remains to be seen. He made a recruiting post last year that was completely wrong.

Please, it is Gregg "3 G" Henson, not to be confused with GERG....
August 10th, 2015 at 6:54 PM ^
He has gone out on small limb a few times and has been basically right on just about all of them. Most of us here find his politics unfortunate and some of the statements he made on twitter related to those politic abhorrant but he either has some pretty legit sources or he is an extremely lucky guesser.

On any given day Shane has the potential to be leaps and bounds better than Rudock. But Rudock's average is much better than Shane's, which is why I would eat an unpeeled pineapple if Shane started at Utah.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:46 PM ^
I hope eating unpeeled pineapples is to 2015 what eating a lemon was to 2014.
That is still the funniest day ever on the board.

TAGGED

If indeed Shane does start against Utah, you must make said video and post it to youtube within 24 hours, or Pineapple Man will hunt you down and have no mercy on your core.

I just bought a pineapple last night so I'll save it for you in case you have to pay off. BTW, do you mind mold?
August 10th, 2015 at 1:42 PM ^
That report is very wrong, or we had very bad coaches. Both are possible.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:44 PM ^
I am not stunned.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:46 PM ^
Rudock did get benched at Iowa...I guess anything is possible.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:47 PM ^
Where the hell did Gregg Henson come from? I hadn't ever heard his name until the coaching search.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:51 PM ^
A Michigan exile, so to speak. He's not well liked by some people on the board, but he was spot on with a lot of his CC info last year. And the Nike deal. He seems to have at least one well placed source in the AD.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:53 PM ^
He had a morning radio show in Detroit in the 90's. He's since jumped around from job to job. Henson has good sources but presents everything in clickbait format.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:53 PM ^
He was Valenti level banned from MGoBlog until his almost solo adventure in announcing Harbaugh as our coach way before anyone else.
He also apparently called Hoke too when he was hired.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:56 PM ^
Threads about Valenti are banned here? Seriously?
August 10th, 2015 at 2:09 PM ^
Yeah b/c even his "good points" are marginalized by his stupid banter.
If there's one thing MGoBlog hates, it's hot takes involving people just talking louder over the other person ala Bill OReilly except sports.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:28 PM ^
They're not technically banned. I mean the editors or moderators aren't going to take a Valenti post down unless it's really inflammitory or offensive or something. But you will get negged into oblivion most likely by your fellow MGoBoarders if you post something Valenti that's not a sterling recitation with actual valid, logical points. But I dont' think Valenti has ever produced something from his brain that would fit into that category.

Rudock -150
Shane +230
Gentry +1000
I'd also place a small wager on Gentry.

August 10th, 2015 at 1:47 PM ^
I'm from Iowa and am exposed to a lot of UI football and I will say that Rudock is very average. If he's the starter, that's fine but someone beating him wouldn't surprise me at all. The ceiling on Rudock just isn't very high. As mentioned, though, his floor is higher.
August 10th, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
It's like asking do you want Jacory Harris as your QB or Alex Smith...
The former will get you 4 TDs one night then 5 ints the other whereas the latter will get you about 2 tds and an int a game.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:37 PM ^
Thats a remarkably ill-thought-out analogy. No one would want Haris with those bogus stats.
A better analogy wuld be the two men you name, but with Harris gives you 4 TDs and an interception in the first Saturday, and then 2 TDs and 2 ints the second, while Smith gives you 2 TDs and an interception each game. Both have the same TD-INT ratio, but which would you prefer?
August 10th, 2015 at 3:56 PM ^
Okay yeah I know the math isn't equatable and is exaggerated... The point was one is your standard game manager whereas the other one is your potential superstar cannon arm with inconsistency.
Pick your poison.
Steady does it or roller coaster?
Both will drive fanbases nuts at different times.
August 10th, 2015 at 4:58 PM ^
I think it depends on what else you've got. A team that has a solid defense and good running game probably wants the steady, game manager type. Otherwise, you probably need to roll the dice.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:24 PM ^
I think he is well above average; he was 3rd last year in the B1G in passer efficency. What is is not is a superstar. But whatever. If low variance and a steady experienced hand is what he can contribute, then that would be wonderful for this year until the full Harbuagh offense starts steamrolling in the next years.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:39 PM ^
I agree with this. Michigan should be fairly risk-averse the first year, and Rudock seems to be the lower-risk option at this point. I'd like it if Morris could step up and prove hiself as reliable as Rudock, but I wouldn't bet on it.
August 10th, 2015 at 2:56 PM ^
Have you seen Harbaugh?!
August 10th, 2015 at 3:10 PM ^
This is what scares me. I'm scared that since Harbaugh is far from risk averse, going with Shane might lose us some games early that a safer option like Rudock would win.
There's no question that Harbaugh will play the best QB; the real issue is what exactly does "best" mean? Is it consistency (almost certainly Rudock)? Is it peak performance (possibly Shane, although such a projection at this point is based solely on potential)?
I think the reason for some panic in this post is that a number of people, myself included, lean towards consistency as the driver for best (particularly after the last few years), and are worried at least somewhat about the early-season implications if that's not actually the case in Harbaugh's mind...
