OT: Super Bowl Halftime Show

Submitted by VCavman24 on
So since the game and the possible worst call ever are being analyzed to death, what did everyone think about the halftime show? I was surprised as to how good Katy Perry's voice sounded (and I'm a neutral listener of her stuff) and liked they didn't focus too much on her, well, chest. Though while I thought the dancing sharks and lion were cool, the effects were overdone. Pretty good overall still. Although it doesn't compare to, IMO, the best halftime show ever of U2 in 2002.

I completely disagree with OP and feel that they didn't show enough focus on her breasts. Why the hell was Lenny Kravitz hyped up because he barely did anything? Missy sucks and so does U2 even in 2002. The things that I enjoyed the most was the video floor and the dancing shark and beach balls.

Let me some up the thread.

A few thought it was a great halftime show and a few other people are calling those people morons for liking it. Yep, sounds like every message board thread on the Internet.

confused when Missy Elliott was on with the....whatever those shirst were...and her off lip synching and not being able to understand one word of it that I thought "this must be what it is like to have dementia." I had to turn it off.

U2 is a terrible band.

The Katy Perry show was phenomenal. Why do you think the effects were overdone? They looked amazing. That 3D stuff on the field is what the Cavs use during their player intros. It looks really cool. I say this as a fan of Katy Perry, though. Not only is she fine as hell, but I like her hit songs.

I'm not much of a Katy Perry fan, but judging based on production, it was fantastic. The lion was weird, but interesting nonetheless. Loved the 3d effects during the chess piece part. The singing sharks and beach balls and trees were freaking hilarious. And the finale was straight out of an episode of The Simpsons, at least that's what it felt like. I admire that Katy tried to sing parts of it live. It is what it is, a production, not a concert. It was entertaining, bottom line.

I continued my streak of hitting the mute button as soon as the half was over.  Don't care about the halftime show at all.  I don't think I missed anything.  I was at work, so I just went about working.  When I have been at home I've just provided my own halftime music show... which is better than anything I think they could pollute my ears with anyway.

The shark costumes looked cool, but I bet they were still cooler with the audio muted.

I thought it was great, very entertaining, and I imagine the fireworks were cool from inside the stadium. I didn't love her costumes but they seemed "her."

Whatever you think of her music the whole thing was delightfully entertaining, which is all it's supposed to be.  No one's there for high art or musical sophistication.  The fireworks part was pretty awesome.

Show was good. If you had it on mute. The sound was horrible. Could not even hear what they were singing. Lenny wasn't even playing his guitar it wasn't even plugged into anything. And he didn't even sing one of his songs.

I and everyone else in the room were too busy shouting "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!" to hear her actual voice.

Not a Katy Perry fan at all, but it was a damn fine spectacle.

I'm not a Katy Perry fan but her show was well done. I liked the trippy asynchronized dancing sharks and the dazy, dreamy beach balls. I really would have loved to see more Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott ... they were my favorite parts. I was surprised to see Lenny showing more chest than Katy, who was rather demure. In the end, my ears were rebelling against the perky pop assault and I craved some Soundgarden and Metallica to kill the earworms.

My favorite past halftime shows:

2002 U2

2007 Prince

The NFL has so much invested in this "spectacular" event that it had to have a middle of the road performance that would not offend anyone, yet somehow producie a spectacular entertainment event.

It seems to me that Katy Perry delivered the intended objective.  It's sort of hard to not like her.

She was probably the best guest prognosticator on College Game Day in the past several years.
