META: Your favorite MGoBlog posters of the past

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Saw an interesting exchange in the THE HARBAUGHING thread I started earlier and though i would open it up into its own thread for discussion.

Veteran members, lurkers-now-posters. Who are your favorite posters of the past? These can be guys that got banned, Bolivia'd or just stopped posting on the site and moved on with life unannounced.

If you have any old timey or famous threads from the past, post those also. I'm in the mood for a laugh and want to be entertained.

My favorite that amused me quite often was Section 1. Not sure what happened to him. Why is he my favorite?

It's easy. The 20 page Rich Rod wars he started in threads. Also his blatant stepping over the line into the No Politics zone that got others riled up.

Also '84.  But grad school (MBA).

How do you know it's been a long time?  When all of the buildings you had classes in have been torn down . . . and some of the buildings that replaced them have themselves been torn down and replaced.

and you got that.   i have told my kids stories of my days down there and pointed to places where buildings used to be, 'see there?  that 's where.....and then the house dog followed me into the accounting lecture in front of 200 students b/c somebody let him in' but it's a little abstract for them.

I was around then... I can't remember exactly when I first started lurking, but I'd guess it was sometime in 2006 or perhaps '07.

Found out about MGoBlog while visiting I Blog for Cookies or something like that. Started lurking and then joined because it was the most unique and frequently hilariously bizarre source for information about M sports I'd ever come across. Still is.

Found the site Wisconsin week if 06 I believe. Haloscan was great... Till the app st game when the blog took off the 1st time. anyway, as they say, I'm as old as the matrix itself. Spent time at the wla for a time. Now there's not much to comment on that I haven't ever seen before. After 3 coaching searches, app st, the year of infinite pain, etc... Nothing surprises me anymore

I was in during the Haloscan days, the 2006 football season was the when I stopped lurking. Those liveblogs were a lot of fun back then.  Only a few dozen of us or so and Magnus always posting during halftime yelling at everyone to stop complaining and being so negative.  The shadow live blogs from last season remind me a lot of days.

I was not around....busy with 3 little ones (I'm still upset that stay at home mom did not come with Bon Bons).  Now they are in school.

Where is Voltron is Handsome?  He was funny and crazy.

Also, Wolfman had a classic rant not too far back: "Does not matter here" when his original post was super long and wordy.  It only lasted like 20 minutes.  It was very amusing.

Took me a while to join after going to Drupal, but I continued reading anyway.

My old favorite was gsimmons85, (first name Greg, not Gene). He was a high school coach in North Carolina or somewhere and always had a lot of good analysis and perspective on stuff.

Had his own blog for a while, but he quit it.

I remember this getting posted a lot:

I could not remember his name, but this is the guy from the Haloscan days that I was trying to remember. He was a regular and valued poster who suddenly announced his retirement from the site (no anger, no big causal event)...and then actually never came back that I saw. Seemed like a good dude.

I was around in various forms for the 2007 coaching search (00goblue00 boobs never forget), joined full time here while living in London the following year. Mostly here just for the coaching search stuff at this point, but always heartened to see some of my personal favorites (BlueDurham! WolvInLA2! jmblue!) still here.

I started reading on here during the 2006 season back in like 6th or 7th grade for me. It made me the most educated kid when it came to football all the way through middle school and high school (I still consider myself better educated than most, but there are quite a few other people my age that actually know what they are talking about, now). Those days were crazy. I remember when diaries would accidentally contain viruses on the occasion, and my dad and I would crack up at all the comments on the board back then. Finally came out of the wood work this past year.

MiMuckdog. Can't recall quite when I first started visiting but I went off the deep end during the RR search. My all time favorite poster was the The Knowledge during the first CC experience. That was great levity during a difficult time for many. And yeah the handle jacking back then lead to some fun times too.

Jhackney He still posts but some of his earlier work is tremendous. It started with hard edge week many years back and escalated to some serious late night crazy threads. Genius. Blog genius.

I'm glad JHackney is showing up a bit more. In the 2011 off-season Denarded and I (under a different name) put together most of the "There are..." posts. Hackney and BlueDragon always submitted an earnest thanks.

The strangest aspect of a blog/board/forum ... when people stop posting, you have no clue if they got banned, switched names, quit visiting, or possibly just died. Kind of eerie in a way.
