01/05/2018 - 10:59am Michigan is ranked ahead of

Michigan is ranked ahead of South Carolina, who has a better record and beat Michigan head-to-head? OK.

11/13/2017 - 2:21pm To hell with EECS 280 and

To hell with EECS 280 and especially the autograder.

10/08/2017 - 12:07am Unfortunately "This is

Unfortunately "This is Michigan" has recently (last 10 years) been closer to what we saw tonight than what we intend it to mean.

10/07/2017 - 11:49pm Maybe you're an easier grader

Maybe you're an easier grader than me. Hoke left plenty of talent, although most of it on the defensive side of the ball. But again this is year 3. I expect an elite coach to get more out of his guys, regardless of who recruited them.

Listen I'm not calling for Harbaugh's job. I'm just saying I'm starting to recalibrate my expectations for this season and beyond. I realize this was always a "rebuilding year" and 2018 is supposed to the "the year".

Next year the defense will probably be really good/great again. But I can't help but think the offense is going to the a boat anchor yet again.

10/07/2017 - 11:43pm I get it, but MSU was 3-9

I get it, but MSU was 3-9 last year. Home game. Night game. Defense is still lights out.

Gotta win this game. No excuses.

10/07/2017 - 11:38pm Nothing was working. Michigan

Nothing was working. Michigan needed to move the ball a LONG ways with the starting field position they were getting. They weren't going to get it just running the ball, when MSU is loading up agains the run. They were forced to pass to some extent.

However, the playcalling left MUCH to be desired. No question.

10/07/2017 - 11:34pm I mean, remove the "Harbaugh"

I mean, remove the "Harbaugh" name and look at the resume. 1-2 against MSU. 0-2 against OSU. 1-1 in bowl games. Hasn't finished better than 3rd in B1G East. No B1G Championship Game appearances.

Not a steaming pile of shit, but certainly doesn't look like an elite coach.

Meyer won a title in year 2 at Florida and year 3 at OSU. Saban won in year 3 at Alabama.

I'm not saying a national championship is a requirement in year 3, but this team doesn't even look close.

08/13/2017 - 4:17pm I'm sure some people do have

I'm sure some people do have some unjustified sense of superiority. Some people just like saving $30. You threw them into one pot and called them "stupid".

08/13/2017 - 1:47pm Reread it, he said

Reread it, he said "PS3/PS4".

I'll listen to an argument on the PS4, although my going-in opinion is the difference vs other platforms is marginal to the point of negligible - but I'd be open to hearing the argument.

Re: PS3 - go to the Vue subreddit and read what people say... laggy, poor framerate, difficult to watch sports... Best results?

I threw in my other comments on Vue in my prior comment. Not all applied to OP. Sorry if that was confusing.

08/13/2017 - 1:37pm I love it when strangers on

I love it when strangers on the internet criticize other strangers on the internet how to spend their money.

Listen, I don't particularly care for these "cord cutting" threads every other week. If you want to cancel Comcast for Sling TV or whatever - go online, do your research, make a decision. I don't make a post every time I buy a Michigan t-shirt.

However, if someone wants to save $600/yr on their TV bill, I'm not going to make fun of them about it.

08/13/2017 - 1:31pm I've heard the term "cord

I've heard the term "cord shavers" used to describe it, but I don't think it has really caught on.

It's just a name/label - doesn't really mean anything and certainly nothing to get offended over (not saying you are, but some people REALLY like to bang the drum of " it's NOT cutting the cord!! *faints* ")

08/13/2017 - 1:27pm A simple "it's not for me"

A simple "it's not for me" would have been sufficient, but instead you decided to generalize people you don't know, then criticize their decisions.

It's not for me.

08/13/2017 - 1:22pm I see your point and don't

I see your point and don't completely disagree, I just think the definition of "cutting the cord" has changed a bit - such that it includes the streaming services.

Regardless of what you want to call it, I like the concept of the streaming TV services for a few reasons:

  • No contracts. If I want to cancel, I go online and cancel. 2 minutes and done.
  • No equipment to rent and return. I use my own streaming box that I own. No rental fees, nothing to return when I cancel/switch providers...
  • ...I can easily switch from Sling to Vue to DirecTV Now to Hulu.
  • It CAN be less costly. When I had Comcast/DirecTV in the past, it wasn't the "base cost" that was expensive. It was all the HD fees, broadcast fees, equipment rental (4 TVs in my house), DVR surcharge, etc. Once those fees are considered, it was less costly for me to go with streaming. It is definitely NOT for everyone, but options are good.
08/13/2017 - 1:10pm need a PS3/PS4 to get the most out of Vue
  • Vue works with Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku. You do not need a Playstation of any kind to subscribe to Vue. (I've heard the Roku app sucks, mainly due to lack of Guide feature, but have never used it)
  • In fact, from everything I have read, the PS3 is a WORSE platform than Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV. Sluggish, etc.
  • I have Vue with Apple TV. I do not own a Playstation 3 or 4.
  • In fairness I've read that Vue works really well with PS4, and might even get some features ahead of time. But I would never say you need a PS4 to get the most from Vue.
  • Vue for Apple TV works well. I think it's the closest streaming option to regular cable.
  • It's not perfect. Sometimes buffers, etc.
  • I have lots of other thoughts on cutting the cord and the various services (I've tried them all, except YouTube TV because they don't offer any TV apps yet - I don't want to cast from my phone) - but I've already typed too much.
08/07/2017 - 10:44am AIDS!

05/03/2017 - 3:42pm I currently have Vue Elite

I currently have Vue Elite ($45/mo.) and Hulu No Commercials ($12/mo.) = $57/mo. total

Hulu No Commercials Live TV w-Enhanced DVR (because a DVR that can't FF past commercials is dumb) = $59/mo.

There are some channel trade-offs.

1) Hulu Plus doesn't appear to have NBC WDIV, Vue does. Your locals will vary.

2) Hulu Plus doesn't have NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV

3) Vue in general has more channels, especially the Elite package that I'm referencing. Which channels you value is obviously personal. But for me I don't see many channels that I would miss.

4) Hulu Plus has Lifetime for those with spouses that care about such things. (Vue doesn't)

Oh god EECS 280. Got 90%+ on both midterm and final exam. Yet still managed a C in the course. Those projects were such a time suck. And obviously I didn't do well with them.

09/10/2015 - 12:21pm Greasemonkey script?

A semi-quick solution would be if someone developed a Greasemonkey script to change the appearance of the page (remove the banner, blue background, etc).

Actually a quick search shows that maybe someone already did something similar... Haven't tested it out though:

Or... use the Stylebot extension for Chrome...

07/13/2015 - 1:05pm This and the fact that

This and the fact that Battle's commitment being soft was a poorly kept secret at best.

If a nobody on the internet like me knows that he's still playing the field despite his commitment then surely Beilein and crew know that too.

And this isn't hindsight being 20/20 - the day Battle commited there was chatter about it not being very firm.

06/06/2015 - 8:15pm Yes, he is supposed to be.

Yes, he is supposed to be. Perhaps OP didn't take the pic today?

Stupid turnover on an inbounds.

NW can't miss any 3-pt attempt.

Well - let's see what happens in 2OT.

Irvin is being asked to create his own offense with Walton and Levert out. That's not his strength. Hence the errors, blocks, etc. Yes he needs to improve that part of his game, but don't act surprised when you see the results of today.

12/24/2014 - 3:17pm "Mattison reportedly cleared

"Mattison reportedly cleared out his office with authority when Hoke was axed."

With authority is right, if the rumors are to be believed. It's hard to imagine GM sticking around after that (again - if the rumor is true - which it's probably not)

12/18/2014 - 11:57am Allow me to put on my "It's Happening" hat for one second

Let me give a maize-and-blue tinged 3rd option - which I don't find all that far-fetched.

3) There is no specific intent to the leak. No leverage, no message to the fans. Instead, the deal is done*, and has been for some time (maybe days or a week+). People familiar with the deal, probably on Michigan's side, are getting loose lipped because, why not? Deal is done, people are excited and start talking.

* by "done" I mean agreed to in principle, not necessarily signed in blood

12/18/2014 - 8:11am I took Math 417... also

I took Math 417... also matrix algebra. Not sure the difference to 217 or maybe it was called 417 ten years ago?

Anyway - I found the class not too difficult. But I remember finishing the class and thinking "great, I can do matrix algebra - but I still have no idea what it is or why I'd ever use it".

So... I didn't get much from the class.

12/18/2014 - 8:06am I took EECS 280 way back in

I took EECS 280 way back in 2002.

I got a C in the class.

If my memory is correct there were 6 "projects", 1 mid-term exam, and 1 final exam.

Both my mid-term and final exam scores were at or above 95%. And I still got a C in the class. That tells you the importance of the coding projects.

They are (or were, I'm talking about 12 yrs ago) very time consuming. The auto-grader [shudder] was very unforgiving. I spent more time on EECS 280 that semester than any other class. So... much... debugging....

I ended up in ME.

(For reference my workload that semester was EECS 280, CALC III, Physics II lecture+lab, and 3rd semester Spanish)

10/28/2014 - 2:33pm Does anyone on the internet

Does anyone on the internet do a "look back" and re-rank recruiting classes based on actual performance?

That would be more telling.

Class rankings before they even hit the court are just predictions. Who cares about the predictions (to some extent) - the actual result is what matters.

09/28/2014 - 4:39pm Possibly, I don't know.

Possibly, I don't know. Regardless - pass/fail or inconclusive - call the timeout instead of using Shane.

09/28/2014 - 3:06pm Good lip reading. I was

Good lip reading. I was willing to hear the official story before really getting on Hoke, but after watching again (and again) it's pretty bad. Even if Shane passed his concussion test there is no reason to insert Shane back into the game. Call a timeout. Whether this costs Hoke his job mid-season- we shall see.

03/05/2014 - 10:15am I guess I need to know the

I guess I need to know the NFL's intention. Are they trying to encourage more teams to go for two? (And not just in late game situations.)

If a 42 yd FG is coverted 83% of the time, then the expected pt value of the XP would be 1 x 0.83 = 0.83 pts.

If a 2-pt conversion is converted 50% of the time (which I think is roughly correct), then the expected pt value of it would be 2 x 0.5 = 1 pt.

As it stands now, the XP and 2-pt conversion have the same expected value of ~1 pt. So risk averse coaches take the safe route and kick the XP. But if coaches are getting a risk premium to go for two - in this case +0.17 pts - then maybe that changes their strategy.

But I just don't think the risk premium of +0.17 pts is enough to change a coach's mind.
