UM on Mike & Mike this morning

Submitted by Waves on

Gary Anderson was on M&M this morning, and afterwards the talk got around to the Michigan coaching hire.

Greeny brought up the topic of which is the better coaching position--UM or Wiscy. He had some stats comparing the two schools and the number of NFL players in the draft and on the field and it was markedly not in our favor. CC's take was that even the perfect hire wasn't going to turn things around quickly since UM just doesn't have the bodies.

Although I wasn't expecting a fair shake with three OSU, ND, and NW honks in the group, I couldn't argue with their findings completely. That being said, they agreed that UM was still a prestigious program with a ton of cash and the ability to hire top-shelf coaching talent.

EDIT: Let me clarify that I couldn't argue with Greeny's stats about the number of players in the NFL. I certainly don't agree with their overall negative take on UM.

Just said it's not a laser and rarely do other schools with a class like ours have that problem over 2 games. Especially when Bellomy and Gardner can't throw. That's zero for 3 when other schools can hit on 3 of 3. They come out well above 50 percent and at least get a TD in 2 games. He has 6 picks!!!!!! 0 TDs!!!! It's not a laser and his name isn't Sugar. He is a man named Shane who I pray kicks ass next year!

"Shane is the worst QB I have ever seen"

Really? I think somebody's hyperbole machine is in overdrive.  Did you watch Indiana this year?  Or how about Maryland when they dropped to their 4th string QB due to injury?  How about Purdue post ACL-calypse?  I think you need to step off the ledge.  I can see why you have negative a billion MGOPoints.

and I'll say it again...they'll take the conversation whichever way keeps people dialed in.  That means you need controversy or say something inflammatory about the topic of conversation.  There's no doubt Michigan is a top tiered program and will always bring in money.  That said, I agree that fixing the program won't happen overnight.  I actually trust CC's opinion over either of the other two.

Not shooting the messenger here at all, but Greenberg saying that "UM just doesn't have the bodies" to turn things around quickly strikes me as dead wrong.  Unlike the situations that RichRod and Hoke walked into, the shelves are pretty-well stocked at Michigan right now.  For once we'll have an experienced OL, and there is depth across the roster - if we can bring in a stud WR and a couple more pieces, this ship should be back on course quickly.

That's true. Complete lack of development. But that's not all on coaches. Players need your be motivated to work. That's why we were 5-7. If we had the talent hoke would be here. We have potential not talent. That's why the right coach could turn this around quick.

Hackett's wife wakes up during a late night convo that Jim is on...

Hackett's Wife - "Jim who are you talking to?"

Hackett - "It's Jim from San Fran"

Hackett's Wife - "At 3:00 in the morning!? What are you wearing "Jim from San Fran""

Harbaugh - "Uhhh... Khakis?"

Hackett's wife - "He sounds interested"

Hackett - "He's going to be the next head coach at Michigan so yeah..."

It was really bad, because it was mostly true. They really held nothing back and it was painful, but at least they backed it up with some stats.

The most damning thing was cc saying he would much rather send his kids to wisconsin, generally stating that michigan players are poorly coached and not physically prepared for nfl (or college much less). Stings, but not too off base.

Michigan has to reach far back to show relevance.  We are not really relevant now (to some extent).  Wisconsin has a lot more recent success that resonates more with kids.

But I'm with a lot of folks.  All it takes is the right coach and we're back, baby!

We have a few drama queens here. News I don't want to hear? Negged. Non-objectionable, sincerely held opinion with which I happen to disagree? Negged. The whole concept of "points", to me, isn't anything to get too revved up over. But I agree it is annoying when I see someone's perfectly reasonable but debatable opinion, and people just neg it in lieu of posting actual counterpoints of their own. I neg for flaming and trolling, but the "downvote as substitute for argument" method is lame. Oh well.
