Zeid El-Kilani is a hero among men.

Met him briefly at the Fire Brandon thing. He was, like Brian, kind of dumbstruck that people expected him to speak.

I will have you know that this exact quote is going to him via facebook now.

thanks

This has never been about me. It is about representing the voices of all those frustrated by the current situation. If you ever have any reccomendations about how I can better represent you, feel free to tell me. I think my e-mail is on the petition, so that is great way to reach out.

Brings back great memories of this:

They aren't going to openly say, let's fire Dave Brandon on this are they? That seems like a crappy way to find out you lost your job.
October 16th, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
The Regents can only urge the President to fire Brandon. They don't have the power to do it themselves.
October 16th, 2014 at 2:52 PM ^
Do they expect any actual news? I suspect it will be tremendously boring with a few of the more political members to maybe do some grandstanding if they're interesting in moving to higher office eventually. With maybe a 6-2 "expressing concern about the direction of the athletic department" or something similarly phrased.
October 16th, 2014 at 2:58 PM ^
The Regents (and public commenters) wouldn't grandstand nearly as much without the cameras. Bring the TV cameras to the meeting, and the cameras create their own news.

Gotta love the FOIA...

is going to be really disappointing for many people, including me. These types of meetings are far less exciting than people realize. That said: popcorn.gif

It'll probably be incredibly boring...but so is the conference call I'll be sitting on.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
Nothing will happen today, I'm quite sure, but it is good to know it is at least being discussed
October 16th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
Chengelis just tweeted a Zapruder Style picture of Schlissel arriving.

This will probably be really boring. They probably run through normal business before putting anything like this to discussion. And yet here I am waiting for it to start...
October 16th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
Is anyone else having trouble?
October 16th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
Refresh it, I have grainy video but no sound yet.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
Like Brian has said before, they aren't going to do anything publicly about Dave Brandon. If they are in fact going to urge the President to fire him, they will do so privately outside of this meeting. This is likely to be a very boring meeting with lots of the same statements has have been made before.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
angelique says that schissel opened right up about athletics...
October 16th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
a regents meeting LIKE NO OTHER RT @nickbaumgardner They have officially run out of seats.

cause we mean business...Give us back our UM football!
October 16th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
Regents meetings spent almost a straight year running out of seats and moved rooms three times because of student activists a couple years ago, this sort of thing happens.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:13 PM ^
I thought we got rid of public executions years ago?
October 16th, 2014 at 3:15 PM ^
So the Livestream is terrible. Lots of popping sounds and now it just turned off and I have a TVU Networks logo on the screen.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:16 PM ^
too many mgobloggers
October 16th, 2014 at 3:15 PM ^
You guys are going to be real dissapointed, nothing real ever gets discussed by regents at these things and they are horribly boring for the most part. Maybe the regents will urge schlissel to fire brandon but they sure as hell won't say anything about it at this meeting.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:16 PM ^
Reading between the lines Brandon is gone. Schlissel has gone out of his way to talk about needing integrity and "building a stronger connection to the univeristy community." It's obvious neither of those things happen with Brandon present. He's probably got things in motion (i.e. interviews) and won't tip his hand *directly* now, but it seems pretty obvious.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
I have phenomenal respect for Schlissel, but man, his nerd voice is on point.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
It's like a mix of Donald Sutherland and a less nasaly Rick Snyder.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:44 PM ^
Serious question but why do you have respect for him? So far the only things I've heard about him have been about his handling of a sexual assualt movement on campus pretty poorly but I traveled in circles that tend to be pretty critical of administrators so I could have missed things.

Nine maybe ten, hard to tell with the grainy video. Looks like there's more pitchforks, but I can confirm at least 3 torches.
October 16th, 2014 at 4:56 PM ^
October 16th, 2014 at 5:50 PM ^
Well...First of all....Obviously torches have done a tremendous job. They are hot and you can feel that out there a little bit. They have some ability to burn and that sort..uh.. they can get the job done. Pitchforks do a nice job as well. No question. I think there's some durability there in a lot of ways. Really both is what you want. You know...the goal..what we wanna do...it really comes down to how you execute with both. Obviously it's nice to have both, some of that is just executing with what you can find in the barn and some of that. No question.
October 16th, 2014 at 10:40 PM ^
People here seem to like him just bc he's against Brandon.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:18 PM ^
Also, just curious...why is this being held at the UM-Flint campus? Are they always there? Do they rotate? Forgive me if it's been discussed but I didn't know until a few minutes ago that this wouldn't be in Ann Arbor
October 16th, 2014 at 3:19 PM ^
They rotate meeting locations between AA, Flint, and Dearborn. All the big athletic decisions get voted on in Flint or Dearborn as to discourage outside attendance and attention. The luxury boxes, fireworks, etc. were all voted on outside of Ann Arbor.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
I figured they rotated but wasn't sure. Probably smart on their part. Torches and Pitchforks are discouraged on the Main Campus from what I understand.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^
Once a year, Flint. Once a year Dearborn.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
They schedule a certain number of meetings every year at the Flint and Dearborn campuses, and even held a meeting in New York last summer, IIRC. It's not always in Ann Arbor, but the schedule is known ahead of time. You can go to their website and see scheduled meetings for the next couple of years.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:27 PM ^
They also always do budget stuff over the summer and out of town so they don't get student or faculty protests.
October 16th, 2014 at 3:19 PM ^
The scheduled private meeting at UM Flint began at 8 am. The public part started and 2 and the media were there for 3. Yes, athletics were mentioned and yes it is an "issue", but did media truly need to camp out in Flint and hope for anything more at this time?
