I always approve of White Stripes in the music selection. Another fine choice would have been the cover of "I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself." Which is exactly how I find myself right now.

Haha didn't expect a Rangoon suggestion for next coach.
You guys brightened my day quite a bit. Good podcast.

The rare triple-sport-metaphor! I always swing for the fences/homerun/hailmary when I sportsball.
September 29th, 2014 at 4:06 PM ^
Why do people keep mentioning john harbaugh? dont think superbowl winning coaches are going to go to college to try and resurect a program.
September 29th, 2014 at 4:16 PM ^
Coach speculation is silly mid-season because none of the viable candidates who are currently employed elsewhere will admit to interest. Recall Saban and Alabama?
Some people have lifelong dreams that aren't always centered around money. Whether or not John H is interested, he grew up in AA, his dad coached in AA during John's impressionable years, and it's not beyond reason to think that coaching in AA would fulfill a lifelong dream. One he will definitely suppress so long as he is collecting a Ravens paycheck during the season.
He may or may not be interested, but there is no point in speculating mid-season.

I like Gundy as a person and I think he is real good coach I would think he would be good fit for Michigan if he wanted to come.
September 29th, 2014 at 4:12 PM ^
Was completely brilliant. Couldn't have put it into better words than that.
September 29th, 2014 at 4:12 PM ^
Let's face it - the doom to Michigan football the last 7 years has been the simple math of hiring a coach versed on one side of the ball, who has had 4 straight misfires on the hires entrusted with the other side of the ball. Simple. If RR had had even a middling defense, he'd probably still be the coach. If Hoke had even a middling offense as opposed to the worst offense by far in Division 1, he'd probably be looking at a 5th year.
So my biggest question is - why have those four hires failed so miserably? Is it something in the water? Shafer, Robinson, Borges and Nuss. All four, miserable failures.
We can split hairs, say Shafer wasn't given time, and that RR suppressed the systems his D coordinators knew, and that Nuss wasn't given time, and that Hoke also suppressed his offensive coordinators by demanding predictable, and easily-neutralized manbaw, but is it really that simple?
One or two, and we'd guess coincidence. But 4 key coordinator fails in a row? Is it just brutal luck?
September 29th, 2014 at 8:28 PM ^
Shafer didn't have a chance. He ran his 4-3 for half a season before the idiot position coaches revolted and got RichRod to put in the 3-3-5. At that point we went from being OK on defense to being a tire fire.

Ace you are such an idiot. "I'm not going back to the stadium until Hoke and Brandon are out."
Let's see if you are a man of your word. You better hope Brandon also gets canned. Otherwise you may not see a live game at the stadium for a long long timr. Way to get behind the program my friend...
Unless of course you are full of crap.

Hyperbole is required in times like this.
September 29th, 2014 at 4:39 PM ^
Nobody said that on the podcast. No idea what you're talking about.
September 29th, 2014 at 6:43 PM ^
Minute 17:08 ("Until Brandon and Hoke are out I'm not going...")
September 29th, 2014 at 8:21 PM ^
Notably, I'm not Brian, who said, "Until Brandon and Hoke are out, that's my plan. I'm not going to the Maryland game, and you* shouldn't either."
*Meaning everyone, not me, since he said earlier in the podcast that I still had to go games because that's kinda my job.
Maybe next time don't use quotes.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:33 AM ^
yeah, that's me, and that's specifically in reference to Maryland.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:01 PM ^
I would like to.
September 29th, 2014 at 4:54 PM ^
Is Narduzzi even remotely an option? Not trolling, I'm genuinely serious. He's built a defense at State that's everything we once were. I feel like he could do it. Question is if we would ever risk testing the waters/if he would turn his back on Dantonio.
EDIT: just got to the end of the podcast
September 29th, 2014 at 8:13 PM ^
Did he build it himself, or did Dantonio give him a big boost?
September 29th, 2014 at 4:51 PM ^
Holy smokes, that fly sweep play is no joke.
Here's a dream:

always loved the possibility of Mike Gundy. He was my hope before the Hoke hire, even though there weren't really any signs pointing in that direction.
Guy seems like a hardass who loves the game and can orchestrate a squad at a high level.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:15 PM ^
I'm not so sure about that. Their AD had a chance to hire him after Urban left and reportedly never even contacted him.
I think Mullen's the guy for Michigan.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:59 PM ^
Muschamp was the much higher profile coach at the time. Mullen was only two years into this tenure at Mississippi State. It's quite possible that Mullen was on Florida's second tier of candidates and Florida just never got their.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:47 PM ^
Unless I missed it, I'm quite surprised that Paul Chryst's name didn't come up during the coaching replacement debate. Now obviously this is a poor week for that name to come up considering what happened Saturday against Akron, but he seems just as viable as the Randy Edsall's of the world.
September 29th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
Mark Richt.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:52 AM ^
I wouldn't necessarily agree with it, but I could see Greg Schiano getting a lot of attention from Michigan.

Swinging for the fences with no slam dunks means it's time to throw a hail mary. I love mixed metaphors!
