De'Veon Smith believes Oline will be better this year
De'Veon Smith made the comment during a media session Wednesday that the Oline will be better this year. Not sure how honest he is with this statement, but we will start to find out in 9 days....

Why are you and the rest of the hecklers appearing as if you hope for the worst from this team? What is your motivation to always question the postive and never to question the negative? I've been following this board less than a year, but all I can conclude is that many of you have been seriously damaged in the past.

Is it any surprise that, "many of you have been seriously damaged in the past?"
I think you answered your own question.

"I'm getting hit 1 yard behind the line instead of 3 yards like last year."

It's a step in the correct direction

"I think our O-line will be terrible".

It couldn't get much worse...

we'll be able to figure out with the oline after the App St game. The production from the running backs last year against CMU was actually pretty good, 38 carries for 155 yards. If the oline struggles with App St then there will be a lot of concerns. For the most part though, I'm eyeballing ND as the early litmus test for the oline.

statement about the running game against CMU. A scrape over 4.0 YPC against a MAC team who allowed 4.8 YPC doesn't do much for me.

to what they did the rest of the year, it was one of their better days. For the most part agree, but after the first game of the year no one knew CMU was going to allow almost 5 yds/carry. Since the 4.8 ypc probably is not in reference to what running backs did, if you add in the rushing stats for Gardner and Morris, UM averaged 5.1 YPC against CMU.

Not shocked. I'm pretty confident that Dan Enos isn't good at coaching football.

OK:
De'Veon Smith understands how to talk.

I hope for his sake that he's right. I'd rather not see him gang-tackled behind the line of scrimmage on nearly every run. Doesn't exactly do much to inspire a running back's confidence when he know's he's running into a brick wall of defensive linemen on every snap.

If they are not better, then put your helmet in their back and maybe they will get the hint to do their job

maybe this is why kalis hurt his back

Success/improvement for the O line this year will be reducing the number of negative plays and sacks. Any positive rushing yards will be a bonus.

Notice he didnt say the Offensive Line would be GOOD - just that it would be better than last year.
Not exactly setting the bar terribly high there Mr Smith.

How low can you go?

Why is setting the bar high a good thing? When doing the Limbo the lower the bar is set the harder it is. So I'd say he set the bar very high!

to Bo's ears. I certainly hope he's right.

Whew! If the line is on par or worse than last year, I can only imagine what this board will be like.

If De'Veon Smith says it, it must be true!

Agreed. And it looked like the offense was running their called-play regardless in order to stress-prep the O-line. I have to think Nuss and the offensive coaching staff will be smart enough to implement hot-reads, check-downs, audibles, etc., and make adjustments to trends in a real game.

This is an important statement I think (re: the scrimmage and OLine panic fallout). Mattison was blitzing the hell out of them because they were practicing, and needed reps on the stuff they need to work on.

Hoke talked about putting tons of pressure on them, which should help them in the long run! Hopefully it does not kill any type of confidence they may have...

"Major League". Suggest a remake and tell them you can provide Randy Quaid's supporting cast for a small fee.
