Block M added to front bumper of Winged Helmets
I saw this a few weeks ago at Schembechler. It was a display for the history of the helmets at Michigan.
For the current one, I thought it was interesting seeing what looked like a small Blue foam(?) M stuck to the front bumper on the helmet in the case that talked about the current design.
I thought it was just something for display. Well, it looks like that's a real thing now based off of a photo Canteen tweeted.
Interesting. I don't really know what to think of it.
The front bumper looked like this since 9/25/1985

Solid overreaction.

lol perfect.

Looks good. Simplifies the "bumper" and fits the actual university logo. Why not make the background maize so it blends in better with the wings.

Looks great, but slightly too big. Shrink it 30% and you've got a deal.

Not a very big change, but I actually think it looks pretty sharp.
Now let's add it back to the sleeve of the away jerseys:

If it means we win than sweet if not keep making changes
August 3rd, 2014 at 10:44 PM ^
Won't even be able to see it while watching the game, so it doesn't matter.
Plus, unless you're a hardcore fan, most people will probably say "huh, never realized it was different. Whatever." then forget about it.
In other words, screaming "leave teh winged helmet aloone!!" is a bit much.

But any response at all would indicate more care than the total level of ambivalence I feel about this.
BTN announcers will still point out the change at lest twice per game though.

Pshhhhhhh

Long time no see.

OP's bad title has led to silly replies and confusion.
Very little (the bumper text) was changed, and nothing has been "added".

"This M, fergodsakes".
I prefer "Michigan" on the helmet, but it's not a big deal. I'm honestly surprised that some people never realized the name of the school was on the front of the helmet. You might not see it very well on television, but it's pretty clear in photos.

I can't believe how many comments are in this thread.
We need real football news (that's not about players' suspensions plz and thank you).

Is this post serious? The block M is "becoming" our brand? Trying to change Michigan football into a unique brand?
I think we have a pretty well established brand and have had it for decades.

That's a relief, after seeing the tweet i feared this was just a random letter and the remainder of the alphabet would be strewn out amongst the entire team...

so I'm angry now

I'm not really a fan of it, but not a huge deal.
August 4th, 2014 at 12:03 AM ^
but it looks good. Would look extra sharp on a maize background, but I can get behind anything with the Block M

It looks too big to me. If it was a little smaller it would be fine. I preferred the Michigan, but oh well.
August 4th, 2014 at 12:35 AM ^
Agreed. Like I said earlier, it's about 30% too big. Like having a big man part, bigger always seems better. But when you get to a certain size, it's just too big. That's how I feel about this M.

Bring back helmet stickers and we're all set.

They changed the helmet, whatever shall we do? At least thee different helmet designs on one Michigan team following the OSU defeat in 1969. That's Dan Dierdorf, BTW, maybe we should ask his opinion about such trivial matters as "Michigan" or "M" on the front of the helmet.

He looks about 50 years old in that pic.
Found an old article about the "Wildcat sweatband" or "snubber" here.
In the NFL, it's fairly simple: Players wearing a Riddell helmet wear "Riddell." Since Riddell is the league's official headwear sponsor, other helmet manufacturers aren't allowed to put their names on the bumper, so players wearing Schutt or Adams helmets usually wear their team wordmark (which means players standing next to each other often don't match). There are, however, a few exceptions:• The Giants' nose bumpers have been in a state of constant flux over the past two seasons, thanks to equipment director Joe Skiba, who's established himself as the league's resident mad sweatband scientist. From the mid-1990s through 2005, the team's non-Riddell bumpers were blank, but things started to get interesting in 2006, when Skiba put a blue "ny" logo on the bumper. Then, in Week 10, the logo suddenly went three-dimensional -- Skiba had come up with a raised, rubberized version of the logo (an idea he swiped from the Oregon Ducks, who'd been using a raised "O" on their bumpers).
See the article for the 2007 view of some of the variety out there among NCAA teams. Michigan is, of course, in the "School Name" category.
Great. Now my twitter background looks dated.

Good place for a mouthguard.
I'm cool with it. But if they decide to put it on the chin strap, that's a bit too much.
I think it looks like a bindi.
Just make sure they are secure and aren't popping off upon contact.
Scrap the program.
