Early weather reports for The Game

Submitted by Hank Hill on November 16th, 2023 at 12:07 PM

Extended forecasts - which have historical accuracy ~80% - are showing temperatures in the mid 30’s, with a 25% chance of precipitation and a 100% chance of Michigan domination. What is your personal preference for weather? Another snowy game like ‘21? Beautiful weather similar to Columbus last year? A rare rainy affair between the two teams? Do you think either team has an inherent advantage one way or another with any type of weather? Feel free to neg away if this is taking up precious board space, but whatever you do, fergodsakes leave the charcoal at home!

Took my 8-year old to the MSU game this year. The only part that was cold was that we had to sit down a lot on the cold, metal bleachers bc the grumpy MSU fans behind us were yelling about it. After they got the usher to talk to the M fan in front of us who wouldn't sit down, the usher told the MSU fans there was nothing he could do. So they called the freakin' police to come talk to him!

The weather won't matter this year, because Michigan has a better passing game and better passing defense than Ohio State.  We shouldn't need the game to be played in a phone booth to win, although we would be likely to win that way too.

Personal preference - 65 degrees and sunny.  We're in Michigan.  That's an irrational hope.

Second choice - low 40s and either sunny or cloudy but no precip and winds in the single digits.  We've actually had that a few times for The Game.

In the end it comes down to if I have to choose between comfort and a safe drive to and from the stadium, I'll pick the latter.

I want it to be exactly like 2021 as far as the overcast-dark skies go. I just remember feeling different and for once optimistic about The Game when I got to my seat and saw the team run out in all blue and the sound of the stadium. It was a "tough team's" atmosphere.

The way I look it I think it ends this trilogy perfectly.

2021: Dark, cloudy, snow flurries: OSU's program was just given news that they had a terminal illness.

2022: It was bright and clear: This was the reading of the last rights and memories of OSU's program.

2023: Dark and dreary again: This is the burial of OSU's program.

In ‘21 their excuse for getting beat was snow and the flu.

In ‘22, with great weather, at their place, the excuse was 5 bad plays.

What does that have to do with this year’s weather? Nothing. It doesn’t matter what the weather is, I just want to hear what their new excuse is going to be. Signs? The refs (unlikely)? ESPN wasn’t allowed to be there? 10 bad plays this time? Michigan shouldn’t have even been allowed to play? Michigan was unfairly allowed to eat impermissible cheeseburgers before the game?

I wouldn't go with an 80% accuracy beyond 10 days ahead. It's more like 65% or 2 out of 3 chance. In this case, with the normal high at 44, it will likely be well below normal with highs in the mid 30s. The chance of snow has not been resolved as of yet.

For the 2021 game, the snow chance in the forecast was not known 10 days ahead. There were clues on Monday, some 5 days ahead. So, between now and the 25th, The Game, just keep and eye of the weather forecast.

Anything similar to a 2021 scenario would favor Michigan. Even sunny and 35 degrees would favor Michigan. The Buckeyes hate near freezing temperatures because they are too soft to play in those conditions.

Yeah Salvatore, I was wondering if you or Sopwith had heard anything?  I guess Balas was putting out a panic inducing tweet again about player interviews not going so well?  Behind paywall so not sure?  I was going to start a topic to see if anyone had heard any rumblings, but I did not want the negbang for this.
