Xavier Worthy officially de-commits, reopens recruitment

Absolutely. “Circumstances beyond my control” is obviously about not being able to get admitted and it would never happen at any of the top football schools.
Exactly Jack, EXACTLY!
I've been increasingly worried bordering on skeptical for several years now that Michigan would ever again compete for B10 & National titles (who could not be?!)
But with this one right here, I'm no longer skeptical. I'm dead certain. I will now watch football with the same level of excitement & engagement as say, Cal-Berkeley does, or Vanderbilt.
We have higher standards than cfp teams, and that's the game we're gonna win! Rah!
Exactly. Michigan either needs to join the Ivy League for football or get with the times. There zero point in having a program in a power 5 conference when it is clear Michigan is not serious about competing with the top programs.
Lol no its not. We aren't elite because our coaching isn't good enough, not because of the admissions office
But here's an ELITE - by any measure - player that these same coaches got to commit & sign NLI, but he wasn't admitted!
Torpedoes the HELL out of your argument ak!
He wasn’t denied admission to the university because of some imaginary secret standard. He was accepted and admitted, just not as an early enrollee.

And that served who, exactly?!

By de-committing instead of transferring a year from now he cheated himself out of experiencing the program's full dysfunctionality.

Sonofabitch
More like "Worthy is not us", but close enough

I know people are going to blame the coaches, but this statement almost confirms it was an admissions issue right?

Porque no los dos?

Porque la gente de esta pagina necesitan todo simple y claro, pero el mundo no es simple o claro... :-)

Not to me! It screams “one of the main reasons I was going there was to play with my friend Giles”. Now that Giles is gone, Xavier has a reason to depart as well. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him commit to Washington.
April 15th, 2021 at 12:59 PM ^
I'd be amazed if a top-75 recruit is going to commit to a school to play with a friend who's 2 years older than him.
lmao... He's not going to Washington. It appears to be Texas.. and the reason for leaving appears to be grades-related.. The kid may have let his grades slip a little at the end there. Either way, good luck to him.
"The kid may have let his grades slip a little at the end there..."

we now have 6 top 100 recruits on the entire roster
I don't follow recruiting as much anymore but I don't think I have ever known less about the Michigan football roster than I do this year.

Not exactly the nooner I had in mind. Dong punch city
April 15th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
I guess admissions doesn't think he's worthy?
It would appear that we are the ones who are lacking worthy-ness.
The guy under the score sign is...
April 15th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
Lol this program is such a joke. This would never happen at OSU or other powerhouse football programs.
April 15th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
I know, right. Things like this only happen to Michigan. Like, Dax Hill would never break a commitment to Alabama to come to Michigan. No way something like this would ever ever happen to other powerhouse programs.
THAT doesn't count because REEEEEEEEEEEE *fart noise*
xoxoxo,
This effing board
Alabama paid him to come here.
You keep bringing up Dax Hill but this is not the same situation.
This appears to be a situation where a highly rated recruit was planning on being an early enrollee but there were some admissions issues.
If true, then its totally different than Dax just simply choosing UM over Bama.
Did Dax get to enroll early, though admissions said he couldn't? I'm confused about the Blue@LSU comparison, too. It doesn't seem to be the same. Dax chose Michigan after briefly flirting with Alabama.
Hmm, your comment would make sense if The Baughz actually specified what he meant by "this would never happen...". Here's his comment:
Lol this program is such a joke. This would never happen at OSU or other powerhouse football programs.
Nowhere in this comment does it mention early enrollment. Based on his previous negative comments about the staff and program, I took it to mean that no player would ever flip at the last moment from a powerhouse school. I then gave an example where it happened.
Hope you're not confused anymore.
But if this decision really is about not getting to enroll early, why wait so long? I mean, he knew he couldn't enroll early months ago. So what changed now? Maybe you have some inside information to share.
He didn't flip at the last moment; he actually signed an NLI, then later says there were circumstances beyond his control. Dax Hill committed to Michigan, was briefly lured over to Alabama, and then re-committed to Michigan saying he had made a mistake. There really isn't any comparison between the two situations.
Oh for fucks sake, stop being so intentionally obtuse.
Ok. But only because you asked so nicely.

I know kids should have the freedom to go where they'll be happy hopefully.
But man, I wonder what the success rate is for guys that seem fickle or change their minds multiple times even before their freshman year?
Good luck kid, unless we have to face you...

Great recruit and it’s a loss but whatever. Michigan has to get it’s swag back and win on the field. I think these new coaches can get it done but it all falls on good QB play.
Good fast receivers can be found. Now if this was a stud defensive linemen I’d be pouting in a corner yelling about it to my friends who don’t care. I just want kids who are all in for M. Everyone else, have at it elsewhere!
I think the recruiting is a bit scatterbrained. Seems we take way too many WR and OG and DE
April 15th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
I guess this means the "I won't believe it until he signs" crowd is no longer relevant then.
April 15th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
Does this mean he has a UM-related academic issue? Seems late in the game to be figuring that out. If so, I feel bad for this kid. I'm sure he will get picked up and get a scholarship somewhere, but I have to image that his options now are a lot less than they were pre-signing date.
"Does this mean he has a UM-related academic issue?"
Nope.
You seem to have some info the rest of us don't have Wolf, and I for one would love it if you shared!
April 16th, 2021 at 12:00 PM ^
I wish I knew more than what has been shared across multiple sources including within this very thread.
All signs have pointed towards it being a drop by the UM Admissions department. We may not (probably not) know what REALLY happened - but it's been pretty consistently conveyed as a problem with the Admissions department throughout.

This is why Michigan will never be an elite football program again. Elite athletes go to elite football programs that do not care about elite academics.
The money is too great in the pros and kids have no loyalty except to themselves basically. So unless Michigan is going to pay under the counter lots and lots of money, you might as well be happy with a 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, and the occasional 10-2 season, with a second-rate bowl thrown in.
Playing for Big Ten championships and making the playoffs is basically a pipe dream
It really is unfair that Alabama pays players (allegedly) so Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, Indiana, and Michigan State can beat us.
Except Norte Dame has been to the playoffs and Northwestern gave OSU a run for their money in the B1G title game. Also it’s not like Rashan Gary and Jabrill Peppers played for us light years ago. We’ve had top tier talent play here, yet we’ve underachieved.
Both things can be true. Michigan is not acting like they actually want to be an elite program. At the same time they have drastically underachieved with the top recruits that they do manage to bring in.
We also bend admissions, pay players, help them cheat in classes and every other thing those other programs do too. Lol at thinking guys are getting offered tens of thousands of dollars and being like nah, 3 years and no degree from Michigan is worth more to me. Anyone thinking that is going to Stanford or NW well before Michigan
April 15th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
Not surprising given the rumors. A blow to the team but they'll have to figure it out and continue recruiting good WRs. Wish him luck wherever he lands.
April 15th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
Oh well, we'll just have to insert a different name when saying "Just throw the fucking ball to X". The vast majority of his career here was just going to be watching the clock run anyway.
Well that was a depressing-ass post.
