OT: Willie Taggart hasn't signed a single QB in 2 years
“We have a plan, I think a pretty good plan,” Taggart said. “I don't necessarily want to discuss it right now, but I think we've got a pretty good plan of where we want to go."
Strange for someone that is a former quarterback. What could this foolproof plan be?!
February 8th, 2019 at 1:30 AM ^
Should have added:
1. Kick Francois off team
2. Don't recruit any other QBs
3. ???
4. Profit ($5,000,000)
February 8th, 2019 at 7:13 AM ^
Didn't his OC have a son who was the #1 QB in his class? What happened to that guy? He should either be out of high school or pretty close by now. I thought the whole point of taking him off Harbaugh's staff was to profit.
February 8th, 2019 at 9:43 AM ^
He's enrolled at Penn State.
edit: IF you're referring to Michael Johnson Sr. I don't believe Kendall Briles has a son that age.
February 8th, 2019 at 10:14 AM ^
Not his OC, Michael Johnson Sr was his WR coach at Oregon and stayed there when Taggert took the FSU job.

You're crapping on the guy for kicking Francois off the team? You have no idea what happened - nobody does, it wasn't released! By news accounts, though, whatever happened was Francois' THIRD run in with domestic violence of some flavor. Taggart tossed him when it was reported. If you think Taggart doesn't understand what happened regarding all three issues, then please explain why. I'll take Taggart's belief that Francois needed to leave before I'll harass him for that decision.
As for QB recruiting, I have no idea what's going on. Clearly, he missed on the one guy he was recruiting, and seems to have recruited nobody else. I think we agree that is a problem that could cost him a job if his 'good plan' doesn't work out...
All that aside, I think Taggart needs a couple more years to get that program going. He walked into a situation similar to what Rich Rod walked into - a pro-styled team that was more depleted than anyone thought it was, and having to change it over to a spread-type offensive scheme. Where Taggart diverges from Rich Rod is that he actually cares about defense. I still think he'll be okay, if given the chance to convert the team into what he wants it to be.

Unless he's changed his comment, you are WAY out of line here. His comment is football oriented, that he just kicked one of the qb's with experience off the team and hasn't recruited one for two years. That's it. I didn't see anything crapping on him for kicking Francois of the team.
February 8th, 2019 at 12:50 PM ^
I read his comment in context with the sarcastic tone of the OP. After re-reading it based on your feedback here, I'll stand by my comment. It still reads to me that he's crapping on the guy for tossing the only decent QB on the roster.
February 8th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
Reading comprehension has never been my strong suit either. No worries.
February 8th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
He's crapping on him for Hokian level roster management. That's how I read it. Because that was all he addressed. None of the side issues for kicking the guy off the team in the first place. Only the roster management.

"What could this foolproof plan be?" reads a little snarky to me, too, skeptical if I place a less judgemental spin on it. But a legitimate question, because Taggart's response is evasive.
Taggart has had some bad luck, and the football program, it turns out, was a cesspool here in Tallahassee. He had no choice but dismiss Francis; in fact, it may not have BEEN Taggarts's choice. Especially given what FSU saw with another celebrated QB.
Coaches need more time than they often get in high-pressure situations like this, but I'll be surprised if Taggart gets a third year should things continue to suck this year.

Geez, all worked up over nothing on a Friday morning. You spend all that time typing that comment and you missed the whole point. Enjoy the rest of your day.

With the number of QBs on Harbaugh's roster, seems like a transfer to FSU in the making. Milton is a Florida guy...
February 8th, 2019 at 10:08 AM ^
Their 4* red shirt freshman Hockman transferred after fall camp last season too.
February 8th, 2019 at 1:50 AM ^
Apparently, one guy flipped to UNC in December. Another guy committed to Ole Miss on Monday, and a third guy picked Maryland over FSU on signing day. Maryland had just offered him last week.
"FSU has one scholarship quarterback available to contribute in 2019."

"...and a third guy picked Maryland over FSU on signing day. Maryland had just offered him last week."
Hmmm... Didn't Maryland just hire an Alabama assistant by the name of Mike Locksley? Wonder if he's already set up a UGA/UTenn crootin' pipeline? That one week offer thingy seems dubious...

Cmon Guys. What’s the biggie?
You all know QB is the most overrated position of need in football.
February 8th, 2019 at 3:33 AM ^
Sign Scott Bakula
February 8th, 2019 at 7:13 AM ^
"Wally, I hope he gets younger as he gets closer".
February 8th, 2019 at 5:07 AM ^
How are they set for running backs? If they have a plethora then maybe we can trade. It would mean a cut in pay to don the maize and blue instead of garnet and gold, but at least you get snow days.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:28 AM ^
Just going to run a lot of Wild Akers sets.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:30 AM ^
Maybe his master plan is to start Peters after he graduates. He wouldn't be able to talk about that right now.
February 8th, 2019 at 6:29 PM ^
Or he's got a black QB somewhere who was just passed over as a starter, who overheard a racial slur, and wants to transfer from his racist college to be immediately eligible.
February 8th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
"At least you get snow days."
Not if the poster from the other day has his say so...
February 8th, 2019 at 5:47 AM ^
The first coach in the country to rely solely on the transfer portal.
February 8th, 2019 at 8:02 AM ^
I thought that was Harbaugh?
February 8th, 2019 at 8:24 AM ^
According to MSU and OSU fans this is 100% accurate.
February 8th, 2019 at 8:47 AM ^
He said solely.
February 8th, 2019 at 10:58 AM ^
You said "shoe-in"...
February 8th, 2019 at 8:14 AM ^
CW mentioned it above, but his plan probably is to see what quarterbacks graduate in May and June and put their names into the transfer portal as grad transfers. Peters may possibly be one but I would guess there will be more than a handful to evaluate.
February 8th, 2019 at 5:53 AM ^
so their offense will consist entirely of 'wildcat' plays. this seems like a great plan.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:05 AM ^
Florida State, the next Navy or Georgia Tech.
February 8th, 2019 at 9:28 AM ^
It worked with Denard...
*ducks and hides*
February 8th, 2019 at 6:05 AM ^
We know better than many other P5 programs what can happen when your QB recruiting falters for even a season. Even with a healthy influx of transfer QBs, we've seen the bumps in the road. FSU is going to be in a big hole in a few years
February 8th, 2019 at 11:38 AM ^
This could be true. However, there are also numerous examples of recent true freshman lighting it up so a one-year fix is not out of the question.
February 8th, 2019 at 6:18 AM ^
Maybe Taggart's secret plan is to rely on a talented but much older walk-on you may have heard of: Uncle Rico, who I bet can still throw a football over the mountains surrounding FSU.
February 8th, 2019 at 10:56 AM ^
He might have to settle for Uncle Drew.
February 8th, 2019 at 6:24 AM ^
He only signs married quarterbacks.
February 8th, 2019 at 6:24 AM ^
Chris Weinke still has eligibility.
February 8th, 2019 at 6:40 AM ^
He's planning on putting 11 offensive tackles on the field. Basically the equivalent of flooding the zone with the fat guys on Nintendo Ice Hockey.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:15 AM ^
Please don't tell Harbaugh!!!
February 8th, 2019 at 8:29 AM ^
I'm now really upset that I cannot go play that game. Thanks for the blast from the past.
February 8th, 2019 at 6:54 AM ^
I believe that’s the exact same thing Brady Hoke said before his last ND game. We all know how that ended.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:10 AM ^
I've heard Uncle Rico still has a few years of eligibility left.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:22 AM ^
See robf post about 1 hour before yours.
February 8th, 2019 at 10:50 AM ^
Yeah saw it after I posted, story of my life.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:24 AM ^
He has a long term deal with Harbaugh, simply put.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:34 AM ^
This won't end well.
