Meta: Highest # of upvotes per MGoPost within thread?

Submitted by rob f on January 31st, 2019 at 8:01 PM

Earlier today, MGoUser "viciousid" was the first to respond in the  "Beilein's Response to Crowd Chant at OSU Game" https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/beilein%27s-response-crowd-chant-osu-game

As of a few minutes ago, his net upvote total stood at 101.  Does anyone have any idea what might be the record # of upvotes anyone has ever received to a response?  Has anyone ever reached 1000? How about 500, maybe?  I'm pretty sure I've seen at least a few who have received over 200 upvotes back in the days of MGoBlog 2.0, but not since.

The post this afternoon by "viciousid", IMO,  is clearly outstanding and deserving of every possible upvote.  If you haven't yet seen it, please take a look and give it some consideration.

I think M-Wolverine had one of the biggest point loses. At one time in 2010 he had the highest point total on the board. I think he got kicked off the blog.

Large upvote totals are hard to come by.  You have to have a perfect comment that's only a line or two, maybe three, at the perfect time.  It has to be fearless, cold, and utterly deadpan.  My personal best is only in the 80's sometime last year.

Good luck to those striving to earn chunked upvotes!

I seem to remember Wolverine Devotee made some sort of innocuous post a few years back probably in 2015, likely about new apparel being released. This post was also the debut of his new avatar which was a logo that he created himself (hopefully correctly embedded below).

This was when WD was at the peak of his board activity, he and DiscussMan were always around. The first comment was something simple like "wait, did you just give yourself a logo?" I seem to remember the upvotes on that simple comment were staggering in number.

Ahem, I believe Mr. viciousid left off a period at the end of his sentence. One downvote forthcoming!

IIRC some cat gave Wolverine Devotee a hard time for giving himself a logo.  I saw it was around 250.  Brian mentioned it one of his articles.

That was a while ago though.

Yes.

I don't know if it's the timing of our registration or what, but since the website update, this forum still has issues with points and votes for some members. There are still a bunch of us that don't get to participate because the points don't register.

You get a point (or 2?) for an upvote, and you lose one for a downvote. If those were registering for us, once we accumulated 100, we'd get our little up-down arrows under each post so we can join in the fun.

I can say, as someone who had that privilege in a previous MGoLife, I don't miss it. It's fun, but when one of my idiot takes gets negged to Bolivia, it's much better not knowing that everybody thinks I'm a moron.

Seeing and being able to upvote/downvote was on my New Year's Resolution... Looks like another fail... F you gym, F you diet, F you saving money, F you spending more time w/ Family and F you upvote/downvote

A serious, for realz conversation around the Naked Bootlegger family dinner table:

Naked Bootlegger (NB):  <Adopts dramatic facial affect> "Fam, I have some major news I need to share with you."

NB Wife:  "This sounds interesting"

NB Son:  /Chews food

NB Daughter:  /Rolls eyes

NB:  "My most recent MGoBlog post has already exceeded 50 upvotes."

NB Family:  /Crickets chirping

One of my proudest life achievements was a post that achieved upvote MGoGlory.  And I can't even remember what it was related to.

The twosie bicycle .gif got a lot of votes, as did the Poole Swag .gif.

The recent comment about even bowl games sitting out bowl games got a lot of votes after a bowl game was cancelled for weather.
