I would be surprised if he leaves. He`s moving back to guard next year where he`s better suited to play and has a chance to significantly improve his stock.
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
PSU RG McGovern leaving early.
OSU's Haskins will go imo. 75/25
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
It would be shocking if he stayed, he would project to be the first QB taken in the draft. I’m surprised he is even considering staying and would think your 75/25 is much more accurate than his 50-50 statement.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:10 PM ^
The only reason he would be the first QB taken is that the guy who was projected to go #1 has already decided to return rather than go pro.
I have no idea how likely it is that he declares, but there are an awful lot of people acting like it's a done deal, when we literally, *this year*, have an example of someone in that position choosing to come back.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:27 PM ^
Herbert's younger brother is an incoming freshman at Oregon so the chance to play with him was probably a factor in Justin returning to school. He also has a 4.0 GPA and likely wants to finish his degree in Biology.
EDIT: I also don't think he's all that great (but that's just opinion).
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:47 PM ^
I really don't get the Herbert hype. Granted MSU D is very good, but he looked terrible in the bowl game.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
His receivers dropped many balls. I saw big guy (6'6") with a big arm, and some nice touch and accuracy. The tools are there, even if the numbers aren't.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:40 PM ^
His family is also pretty rich apparently
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:34 PM ^
There could be 15 guys projected to go ahead of him, if they all return it doesn't matter, he is still projected to be the first QB taken. If anything, Herbert returning gives him more of a reason to go pro.
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:46 PM ^
In the bowl game Herbie was comparing Haskins to Ben Rothlisberger and could see it. Big dude, quick release, hits tiny windows.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
I do not see it at all. All year Haskins was knocked for being unable to throw accurately once moved off his spot. His receivers were also running free every game. Those things will not happen in the NFL. The hit rate on QBs taken in the first round of the draft has improved in recent years but nothing about Haskins tells me he is a future star.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:39 PM ^
I keep laughing at people down playing Haskins. Haskins just had by far the best season of any QB in Big Ten history. He is really good and will be a top 5 pick.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:43 PM ^
“Hurr sure if you don’t agree with my scouting take you’re an idiot”
the only idiot here is you for thinking numbers have any have any bearing on NFL success. Tell me about what JT Barrett has done in the NFL. Nothing??? But he threw like 50 TDs, as a freshman!! Guaranteed HOFer obviously.
Scouts have legitimate concerns about his ability on the move and the fact that he literally got more help from his receivers than ANYONE in the country (per PFF advanced stats).
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
You make a very good point and I really hope Haskins follows in Barrett's NFL footsteps. He did have 15 more TDs, 1800yds, 6pts better comp%, and 10pts better passer rating than JT's best year. Plus, Haskins sure looked alot better, specially at the end of the year.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:01 PM ^
We can argue about QBs all day but Haskins is now projected to go in the top 5 or 6 of the draft and if he does last to no. 6, look for the Giants to jump on him. I'll take the NFL analysts over us any day. Can't stand any thing about the suckeyes but good lord, that kid is bigtime.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:48 PM ^
Haskins 99-1 he goes. His stock can only go down. He is rated the highest QB on board by many and maybe a #1 overall. Not enough insurance money to make that up if he is injured or by some chance he has a bad year and drops to late first or second round pick. Anyone who advises him to stay does not have his best interest. I would say the same about Devin Bush. He could only hurt his draft stock. Game is too violent and too much risk to not take the opportunity if you can. I applaud Gentry, Bush, Long and Gary. If your dream is the NFL, go for it.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
Haskins is gone. Every time you look, he keeps shooting up the draft board and will be the 1st QB taken. Sure looks like a top 5 pick now. I sure hope so because I definitely don't want that kid coming to Ann Arbor next year.
January 2nd, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
lol OSU will probably just pick up Jalen Hurts and keep rolling. I hate those MFers.
January 3rd, 2019 at 8:50 AM ^
I would be fine with Hurts being the starting QB at OSU. I think Bama won a lot of games despite him, not because of him.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
PSU's Ryan Bates also to the NFL Draft. Their OL is taking a huge hit losing McGovern and Bates. If Miles Sanders declares as expected, PSU's offense is going to be very green. Franklin has recruited well though, but I think their offense could take a major step back next year.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:00 PM ^
Is Sanders that big a loss? I know he had nearly 1300 yards but they felt pretty quiet.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:17 PM ^
I think it is. He was #15 in the NCAA in rushing yards. PSU has recruited well at RB so that will soften the blow, but when you combine the loss of Sanders with a new QB and 2-3 new starters on the OL, I think it magnfies the impact.
January 3rd, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
He had several very quiet games, including the loss to OSU, the decimation at the hands of Michigan, and most recently the Capital One Bowl loss to Kentucky. In fact he only went over 100 yards in five of their 13 games, though probably some of it was McSorley stealing yards from him on scrambles and designed runs.
I feel like he was just a guy, which maybe isn't fair since he was following a generational talent in Barkley. I dunno.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
I didn't even realize Sanders was eligible to be drafted.
January 3rd, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
Sanders now officially gone
January 3rd, 2019 at 12:40 PM ^
Along with DT Kevin Givens, PSU now has 5 early entries to the NFL Draft. I did not expect that number to be so high as I think a couple of the departures are marginal draft prospects, but I did not follow PSU that closely this season.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:03 PM ^
PSU's backup QB seemed pretty good when I saw him play, i think he'll be fine. But I'm just not scared of a Frames Janklin PSU team without Saquon or McSorely or Morehead. Those are some very good players/coaches and I don't see them coming close to 2017 status without them.
I have no clue why Hebert is expected to be taken higher than Haskins.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:33 PM ^
Sean Clifford is probably a better passer than Stevens.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
It would be a smart move for Willekes to leave State. Staying there won't do him any good and he doesn't seem like the rapey type.
January 3rd, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
He broke his leg in the Redbox Bowl. Brutal if he was considering going pro. Another example of why I will never criticize a draftable kid for sitting out a bowl game. Breaking your leg in a 7-6 loss in the Redbox Bowl is terrible.
January 3rd, 2019 at 1:01 PM ^
Miles Sanders officially declared. PSU will have a big down year.
