Al Washington Rumors
I know these are just rumors but they are out there right now that Ohio State has already been in contact with Al Washington to take over their linebackers coach position which would be a lateral move in position at this point.
I know this is something that can happen and it would be a blow to the michigan staff it were to come to fruition. And as it is still speculation at this point i dont want to make too much of it but if some school is going to take him away i would much rather it not be the school that has been whooping up on us for the past decade.

Whatever will happen, will happen, what won’t, won’t.

Oh America....where a great quote from one of the best American pioneers gets attributed to a talking baby hell bent on killing his mother....lol.

He could have gone with Herbert the pervert

He has to have a non-compete. Let's stop posting these things, which adds fuel to the fire.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
If he wants to make the move then an agreement will be made. It’s silly to think a non-compete clause will stop it (nor should it).
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
Why would a talking baby hell-bent on killing his mother need a non-compete? Who would really WANT that? Jeez, I expected better thinking out of my MGo brethren.

Oh well -- Columbus is his hometown, too. May just be time to go back for him.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
No he didn't... He played at BC. His dad played at OSU.
on edit: nice ninja edit!

I messed up and changed it real fast before I saw your response; my bad for the reply not looking great now.

It happens! This is a sports blog, not life or death.

This comment is awesome! No matter how true it is, some just don't see it that way.

Maybe that’s how OSU knew all of Michigan’s defensive calls At least it seemed that way...then again I could still be hungover from my holiday festivus

People are playing up the lateral aspect of the move. Al has history with Coach Day, so it's not surprising that he'd like to work in his buddy's staff.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:51 AM ^
Counterpoint: he has a longer history with Don Brown, who is the reason he took this job in the first place.
I get the hometown angle, but I’d be surprised if he took a lateral move.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:53 AM ^
You're right of course. I think Al is 100% gone if Brown leaves.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:58 AM ^
Probably, but I also don’t think Brown is going anywhere.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
I also think that at this juncture it looks better to have Ohio on your resume when it comes time to shoot for a coordinator position.
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
on the offensive of the ball - yes.. on defense? nah..
they may have blown us out, but their D still sucks. they are basically big12 team this year
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
Not sure we have much room to talk about THEIR defense sucking. We are losing a lot of talent this year on defense, and we didn't exactly peak at the end of the season. Read: we put up good numbers against bad teams.
Also, they lost THE best defensive player in the country early on, AND they were very young on that side of the ball. Next year they are returning most of their starters, and even they played better as the season went on.
It's beyond wishful thinking to just assume Ohio State is going to suck on defense. And if we lost Washington, that's an even bigger blow as he is the only coach I would retain if it were up to me.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
Not to pile on the rumor mill but I've heard the same thing from several of my OSU friends connected to their program.
Just a rumor right now but I think the thing does have some legs. Unfortunately.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:43 AM ^
This would be a big blow. Al Washington has helped us get back into Ohio (though Warinner is also in that mix). Zach Harrison, for example, we wouldn't have been competitive in if not for Washington. If they get Al, we will be back to square one in terms of getting Ohio out from under OSU's headlock.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:13 AM ^
This is a direct move to weaken Michigan. They've identified one of UM's top recruiters and like you mention our main asset in Ohio and the single reason why UM had any chance with Zach Harrison. They want to take that away. OSU is a step ahead of UM and hopefully JH can see this and doesn't let him walk.
The name of the game in college football is recruiting.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
Technically, they would be a step behind Michigan. A step ahead would have meant OSU hiring Washington last year before he joined our staff.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
OSU 4-0 vs. Harbaugh isn't a step behind.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
Are you serious? I wasn't aware of that.
I think I will become an OSU fan. On second thought, even OSU are a bunch of losers, I am switching to Bama until (at least) Nick Satan retires.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
No offense, but you sound like a pu#%y.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:45 PM ^
Nah, I am more of an internet tough guy like you. Not enough of us in this society.
January 4th, 2019 at 9:02 AM ^
Take it easy Martha, I'll buy ya a beer.
Also, I wasn't challenging you to a fight or anything, I was just questioning you manhood. I said No offense.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:46 PM ^
On second thought, this exchange bores me. Bye.
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
Likely more wishful legs than actual legs
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:40 AM ^
They can take Al, and we’ll bring back DJ Durkin. Win win.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:41 AM ^
Durkin is a killer coach.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:25 PM ^
Ugh. It will always be too soon for that, bro. Very poor taste.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
What's in poor taste is wanting that piece of shit back at Michigan.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:41 AM ^
Might just be a dream job for him and nothing we can do about it. His dad played for OSU and is still a huge Buckeye fan, Al grew up in Columbus around the program as a fan. As much as I hate the idea of it, maybe no way to stop him from going "home".
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:42 AM ^
I hate to say it, but moving from LB coach at Michigan to LB coach at OSU is probably a step up. A small step, but a step nonetheless.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:48 AM ^
The desire to go home is a strong one. I know lots of people who go move around to improve their career goals, then ultimately wind up close to home when the opportunity arises. I’d be curious as to where his wife is from. If she’s from Columbus as well, they’re going to want to go if the opportunity is there, and it has nothing to do with the job per se. In other words, if he goes it’s not necessarily a reflection on Michigan; he and his family just want to go home, and right now there is an opportunity to do so.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:45 AM ^
What an embarrassment if that happens.
A bigger embarrassment would be having a guy who never played college football much less the RB position being our RB coach. Thank God we don’t have that.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:24 AM ^
Bill Walsh never played in the NFL. Neither did Belichick, Lombardi, Landry, Shula, Noll, etc. Mike Leach never played college ball either.
The idea that you had to had played at a certain level to coach is an erroneous one.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
Did any of those guys have a job that their last name didn't get them? Because that's Jay's reality. Jay is a pretty good recruiter with a notable name. If he's worth having on staff, why hasn't anyone tried to poach him?
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Probably because he coaches at a high profile school and is paid really well. What school can offer him as much?
Why bother to try to poach a guy in such a situation?
