Cryptic tweets by those who have recently left the program

At the end lets take the road less traveled: the high road. Unless you want to get a panel of all the transfers together & identify the central theme of all the departures & since that will not happen let them speculate. Be blessed

This season was equal to the '16 season.  So that statement isn't correct.

UM has had transfers like this before. Carr era saw many high level talent leave.  Fargas, Shawn Collins, Rasheed Simmons, Trevor Pryce,  and the DE whose name escapes that had a double digit sack season.

Pretending that this is abnormal only proves that you don't remember much about Michigan football.

I am not denying that something is wrong with the program.I can handle bad news (been following the program for quite some time).. It is the constant negativity from this dude that is driving this place nuts. He has no "insight", he just keep bringing up over and over about how we aren't Bama, Clemson, OSU. He has no desire to have a discussion about what is wrong/what should be fixed about the issues...just wants to continue to be a gray cloud.

You're a miserable dickhead. I mean that sincerely. Whether there is anything of substance here is not the point. You ruin every goddamn thread you post in. I hate you, and all of your accounts. You are the worst poster here, by some margin. I'll bet your entire life is as miserable as you make these threads.

Shawn and I have sparred as recently as this week. He gets heated easily.

That does not invalidate those tweets. There are some unhappy (former) campers and it can affect the whole program.

Any argument for moderation of the poster is damaged by comments like yours. He literally just relayed the data (as he did with his crystal ball update last week). Suggesting that such behavior is ban-worthy is absurd, even if he does other stuff that pushes the guidelines.

This (edit-original post) is eminently fair. Necessary, even. The comments that will follow, maybe not so much, but the post is fine.

Fair points.  OTOH...

Should each post be judged in isolation?  Or does a broader context matter?

Even if a post relays data, if the data post comes in the broader context of every or almost every post from the poster being negative and troll stuff, then...doesn't that matter?

Isn't the strong negative reaction to the OP in large part due to the fact that it is the zillionth negative post from the same person?  Even though this particular post conveys data, the timing, context, poster history, etc., makes it reasonable for people to conclude that OP's intent is to troll.

If M-Dog had made this same post (just picked him because he happens to be at the top of the Diaries posts rights now and is sometimes positive, other times negative, seems motivated only by giving his honest thoughts) the reaction would have been different.

You're being entirely too diplomatic on this one. He's a known troll, he comments just to get people riled up, and I believe that you know this. He may be 100% correct in this particular instance, but you're legitimizing all of his other antics by backing him selectively. I think he should go, but without useful, real moderation tools it's pointless because he'll be right back.

It's a problem that needs to be dealt with.

Regarding your statement, "you're legitimizing all his other antics," I respectfully disagree.

My general practice is to address actual behavior. Yes, Shawn L Diagonal Maizen Blue(y) Martin (SLDMBM) most certainly does engage in antics; he's dishonest (which is why I bother making an issue of his other accounts), abusive, and his arguments are laced with those failings. However, there are times when he presents information that, as poorly as he tends to frame things, is actually both modestly accurate and newsworthy.

I think that behavior should be encouraged, even if he has long since proven incapable of controlling his temper. Even aside from that, though, it is important to me to separate the "unpleasant" information that he will present with the way he presents it and frames it.

His argument for why he gets blowback consists of, "people are just angry because I'm telling uncomfortable truths." That is untrue. Many people, including me, have no issue with the "uncomfortable truths" when he reports actual facts. His crystal ball thread, for example, was started with a post that just reported facts (known elsewhere, but not really widespread on here at the time) with the simple editorial flourish of "it will be a photo finish" at the end. There's no problem with that at all.

The rest of the thread, of course, was a mess, because he reverted to his usual form (and created a burner account to back himself up, FWIW).

The reason SLDMBM gets blowback is his own behavior. No more, no less. I don't consider it diplomacy to separate the occasional factual truth, unpleasant though it may be, from the wider persona he invariably reverts to.

I honest to God dont know - all my contacts are long gone from the program.  All I can see is what everybody sees which is a rash of transfers, some of which are from players with a clear path to starting which little to no sense unless you REALLY dont want to be here.  Couple that with the (allegedly) high number of players looking to sit out the bowl game, many of whom's draft stock isnt anywhere near the first round, our recent decommittments and rumored losses on the recruiting trail and now these ominous tweets.

Then add in a dash of getting our asses handed to us in the worst way possible in the biggest game of Harbaugh's tenure at Michigan and it sure looks to me like there's a problem somewhere.  Why didnt we show up in Columbus?  Why did we look so completely unprepared and uninspired?  None of this makes any sense to me which is why I stand by my comment that something is wrong but I have no earthly idea what it is right now.

Hudson (we will agree to disagree on whether he had a "clear path" or not), Solomon and unfortunately I am hearing rumblings it's not over yet.  Plus we have several players leaving early (allegedly) with mid-round draft grades at best.  That is also unusual if it occurs.

How much attrition do you need to see before you would classify the situation as problematic?  I'm not asking that in a snarky way - I honestly want to know.

December 17th, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^

I'm not saying the board is full of 30%'ers, if ya know what I mean, but I don't think ANY amount of attrition would spark a conversation about GODHARBAUGH. It's just not his fault, and the supporters will go down with the ship (IF that's what is happening).

I understand being a fan, but this is beginning to resemble political tribalism.

SalvatoreQuattro

No one here knows if something is or isn’t wrong. To suggest that Harbaugh is at fault is as irrational as defending him no matter what.

The data we have available is inconclusive. We don’t have enough information to say either way. Just whispers of rumors. That isn’t data.

UM has had plenty of Uber talented kids transfer before. Especially ones from out of state.

I said it elsewhere -- if 6 or 7 people sit out the bowl game (and they are not projected to be rd 1 or 2 picks), that's problematic.

But I can't comment on, "Oh man, it's terrible that X or Y left" when they haven't left. Life is too short to get stressed about unknowable possibilities and cryptic tweets (esp when absolutely zero is keeping them from "speaking out").

The OP is asking me to get upset about 3 players who didn't do much of anything at Michigan. I expect more people to leave (e.g., Nordin); I won't be glad about that, but I understand -- he got beat out and isn't likely to play next season (same reason as Hudson).

Heck, at OSU, Bosa clearly decided to sit out the season (not even trying to get back for the Rose Bowl or CFP!), and that's a program that has won 11-plus games for a decade. Would that have happened 5 years ago? Heck no.

This is the new world. If a players isn't startin', he's departin' (or even if he thinks he could be getting more carries, catches, etc). Churn is the new norm.

Underclassmen with mid-round grades head to the nfl frequently.  Over 100 entered the draft with eligibility remaining last year, and a over third weren’t even drafted at all.  About another 3rd were drafted in the 4th round or later.

Ultimately we’ll see how many kids leave early, but I don’t think we’ll see more than one surprise.  There may be something going on internally, and there may not be.  But a 5-10% attrition isn’t a crazy number in a given year.  3% of the student body at large leaves after their first year, and near 10% don’t make it through to a degree.

I have no idea what is happening inside the walls of Ft. Shembechler, however, could the issues we are seeing simply be attributed to a program which is starting to have some success?

It seems like every year OSU and Alabama have players declare early for the NFL where we all scratch our heads and say, what? I believe there was a post just today about Mike Weber declaring early.

It would be nice to have some of the conference championships and playoff appearances to go with that success. That is probably what makes it seem so hollow for Michigan fans. The guys are leaving like other top programs experience but Michigan doesn't have the hardware to make its fans feel better about it.

Agree,  I have the same issues with DB/Maizen/Shawn/TROLOLOLOLOLOL as everyone else, but the current pattern of news AND these tweets coming out is turning my head and not in a good way.  This is getting concerning and I am not a fan of the current direction which is starting to remind me of the way UCLA basketball fell apart under Ben Howland.

Hopefully this is just a resetting and getting the guys who can get onboard, onboard.  This also might be why recruiting has changed up a bit over the past couple years, coaches may be trying to find guys who have more "buy-in" as they are starting to run into some other issues throughout the roster.

OSU was just better. Better gameplan and better players. It wasn't about Michigan not "showing up" or playing "uninspired" football.

Michigan was able to "show up" in a big way against MSU, Wisconsin, and PSU. I don't think it's because the program was in a better place and then it fell apart right before OSU. That doesn't make sense.

Your trying to rationalize the actions of 18-22 year olds. You speak of guys sitting out bowl games in large numbers. Anyone who has followed the NFL know that you can make stuff happen at the combine or private work outs. The bowl game used to be something special...then they added a bunch of bowl games and watered the experience down. They added the playoff which again lowered the value of the other bowl games. If you think you will get drafted no matter if it is round 1 or 7 would you risk a major injury?

The world of College Football is different we have more entitled kids who think they should be payed millions to play at the college level. A large majority of them probably spend a bunch of time stewing about how hard they play and they get nothing for it(they don't care about the degree). If college football is a means to get to the NFL the second you can bail out on College and work towards the NFL you will.

Also kids with 4-5 stars think they are entitled to starting right away. All these things factor into transferring. Solomon and Hudson didn't get the PT they thought they would which delays their entry to the NFL. So they leave for greener pastures where they think they can start.

MGrow, you act like this board is all sunshine and roses and that all the cool people are being overly optimistic, and you like to make jokes about how the optimistic people have their heads in the sand.

When I read through these threads I have a different experience - if anything, MGoBlog posters are prone to being overly pessimistic, and dismissive of optimism.  I see overwhelming negativity with countless posters suffering badly from BPONE.  You'd think the football team went 5-7 again this year the way some people are acting.

I think you misunderstand. It's not just this post the guy is referring to. It's the collection of posts and comments that have people feeling that way. Now, having said that, I just choose to ignore posts or posters I don't like. Some don't really seem to have the ability to do that.

I know of the OP's long and storied history here quite well.  My point was only THIS thread offered nothing but facts - no commentary by Shawn, no digs at the coaching staff, nothing.  For somebody to ask for him to be banned based on this post is pure nonsense IMO.

I get that people REALLY dont like him (see Timmmay's comment above and the number of upvotes for reference) but in this case it was the messenger, not the message.

Agree Timmmaay. Diagonal/Maizen/what ever the fuck other account names he has just likes to stir shit.

I can handle bad stuff about the program, I've been following it for 50 years, but look at his posting history - nothing good.

Dude is a miserable attention whore. He gets off on being hated. Congrats Maizen, reasonable people can't stand you...you've succeeded in your goal.

This whole topic is based on speculation and assumptions.  The sky is falling! The sky is falling!  What a bunch of bulllshit.  We just finished a season 10-2 and sit at #7 in the country.  We lost to better team at their place with 2 of our 3 best defensive players playing hurt.  Solomon didn’t even suit up.  We lost our best player and a starting corner during the game.  We looked like shit and it sucked. But Jim Harbaugh has this team going in the right direction, UP!  Remember where this program was a short 4 years ago and look where we are now.  Building a program the right way takes time.  We are disappointed with a spot in a NY6 bowl.  Think about that and pull yourselves together, this blog is embarrassing.

The issue is is that this poster and his other usernames, never posts in good faith. If you or practically any other poster  had said this, we could have an actual discussion. But he is not interested in an actual discussion. Just to shove things in others posters faces. Reputations are often earned and his definitely is.
