Don Brown A Finalist for Temple HC Job
Per the Philadelphia Inquirer
We could find out today the new Temple football coach. Three DC's Mike Elko (Texas A&M), Manny Diaz (Miami), & Don Brown (Michigan) are thought to be in the running. Based on some conversations, my gut says Elko is the favorite, but we will see.

Does this mean I may need to change my name to Jim Harbaugh's Pinky?
December 12th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
You'd lose all your points!
Oh, wait...
December 12th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
And I thought Dax was a kick to the nuts...
December 12th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
Yep, kids like Dax and Zach H. are still HS talents and need to develop yet. Brown is established as one of the top defensive minds around and has nothing to prove.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
At his age, I find it hard to believe he wants to be a head coach.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
This.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
Why? He’s not on death’s door. Mack Brown and Les Miles just took new jobs. If he wants to be the head guy, he’s hardly too old.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
Don hasn't been a head coach for a long time and even then, he wasn't one for a long time. Les has been more recently and Mack has a long history of being a head coach.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:23 AM ^
But both those guys are about to fail miserably.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:25 AM ^
You must be fairly young. Nowadays a healthy guy his age--almost any profession, if he's been healthy to this stage--may see himself with 15 more good working years in him. I'm approaching his age and just not seeing any reason not to do almost any of the things I love. If the job looks like a pleasure to him he needs to go for it.
Unfortunately.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:42 AM ^
I just turned 37.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
Young punk.
(I'm 38)
December 12th, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^
That's a damn good age. Possibly the best. Great intersection of vitality and wisdom provided you have been living with integrity and not overcommitted to bullshit (says the 47 year old).
December 12th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^
I got socks older than all of you. Get off of my lawn.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^
You’re a man at age 40, per J Gundy
December 12th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
You are still a young pup.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:36 AM ^
He said this spring (maybe summer) that he has no intention to be a head coach at his age. I am very surprised by this rumor.
December 12th, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
Interviewing for a job doesn’t necessarily mean youre interested in it. I was taught to never turn down a job interview. Interested or not.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
Immediately leaving after getting stomped by OSU would definitely decrease my fondness for him. I'm sure he wouldn't then go on to kill a player, so he's clearly not DJ Durkin.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
I find it hard to believe that our d coordinator might have been focused on finding a head coaching position during the week preceding The Game instead of working on a game plan.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
Temple wasn’t open then.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:20 AM ^
It's a Durkin joke.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:17 AM ^
So instead of crab cakes he spent the week dreaming of cheesesteaks and kielbasa.
I feel like I've seen this movie before.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
Solve your problems with a head coaching job at Temple.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
That's funny.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
Where the hell did this come from? I thought DB didn't want to be a head coach!
December 12th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
Marc said all three coaches "are thought to be in the running." So is he or isn't he? The dude appears to be just saying stuff. Misleading title.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
So who stands to gain that Marc is a supporter of, if the rumor weakens our recruiting?
December 12th, 2018 at 11:16 AM ^
He is in the running, has interviewed and up for the job. Its pretty clear you just don't like what is being implied.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
I am sorry, but explain how you know that with 100% certainty?
I am going to be honest with you here. You consistently take the most negative news that is rumored or reported and run with it as gold, and the most positive news is taken as more of a "see it when I believe it" kind of thing.
Not every individual needs to be an optimist, but you tend to fall on the reverse spectrum of that scale.
To each his own, man. But in this instance, I do not think you know for sure whether or not that is true.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
I am a pessismist because it proves to be accurate more often, its pretty simple. I also predicted we'd go 10-2 this year.
There is no reason for a Temple reporter to lie about Don Brown interviewing for the Temple job. So if a person with Temple sources is reporting that Temple has interviewed Don Brown and they consider him a finalist I have no reason to believe that isn't true. The tweet and information they are putting out is clear. You can choose not to believe it but that is a different issue.
I don't believe Brown would take the job but I don't know why everyone is so confident.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
If he wants to be a head coach, now would be the time, and while certainly not a "high quality" head coaching job, Temple does now have at least a respectable program. Good luck to him if he chooses that route.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
I will not believe this until something more concrete comes out. Sounds like scuttlebutt to me.
Please be just a rumor
December 12th, 2018 at 10:08 AM ^
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Don't do it, Temple! He'd be an absolutely awful HC - can you imagine what kind of offense you'd have? None!! They'd be no good whatsoever. So don't do it!
December 12th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
Maybe he could take Pep with him?
December 12th, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
This swayed me more than it should have.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:01 AM ^
Jay too.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
If Don gets the job, good for him. Temple is not a bad job anymore. I would have to believe it's Diaz's job if he wants it. He's a good DC and young (44 years old).
December 12th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
Oh man, they should hire the interim head coach. This guy is a cross between Brady Hoke and Chris Farley
December 12th, 2018 at 10:36 AM ^
Ed Foley. Yeah, that man is fired up and ready to lead his team to a van, down by the river.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:15 AM ^
This is just more b.s. negative rumors to derail UM recruiting. Don Brown would never take the head coaching job at Temple. He could do WAY better than that if he wanted to be a HC. I have been to Temple's recruiting football camps and that place is in the middle of the slums of Philly and the facilities are like third tier.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:27 AM ^
"That's NOT b.s."

I went to law school at Temple, and with all due respect, go fuck yourself.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:36 AM ^
This comment qualifies for BOTH a Ricky Bobby and a Ron Burgandy quote in reply. Nice.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
Sorry, dude, was not saying the Temple law school was third tier - I was commenting on the football facilities. Actually as I understand it the law school's Trial Advocacy department is ranked like 3rd in the nation and Temple is a perennial powerhouse in the nation's Mock Trial competition.
The walk from the practice facility to campus is sketchy. The campus seemed nice. But the football environment isn't anywhere near like it is in Ann Arbor or most colleges across the country that have a stadium on campus. It is a hard place to recruit.

Oh good insight, glad you stopped by on the board today completely rational non-homer.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
Brings back fond memories of Beilein interviewing with Pistons
December 12th, 2018 at 12:14 PM ^
Yup - the HC interest and $contract supports the contract extension for Don Brown ... Warde Manual probably needed him to get an outside offer to justify a big new contract.
December 12th, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
Lol I give up. Brown is a little old, but he would be a perfect hire for Temple. Coach Brown has an east coast background, coaches good defense, and could easily build Temple into the top team in the AAC (UCF is about to have a fall from grace). Not to mention a great leader of young men.
