Adjustments and Game Plan
Please someone correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like Ohio State actually looked at our game tape and saw how Indiana exposed us with the crossing routes (as the announcers comment with regularity) and then created a game plan around that exposed weakness.
Yet, with our offense, it looks like we are running the same exact plays we have run all season. I am no football coach so I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong. So for all you people with actual football knowledge (unlike me) are we showing any different looks than every other game?
November 24th, 2018 at 1:19 PM ^
Nope.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Why can't I be wrong. Please let me be wrong.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Pep Hamilton is complete trash.
Head coaches who have employed him:
Lovie Smith
Chuck Pagano
Hue Jackson
Jim Harbaugh
November 24th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
DONALDO may have been worse than Pep in that half. Unreal
November 24th, 2018 at 5:50 PM ^
2nd and 2 and you take a sack. Ruined the game and pep sucks ballz
November 24th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Its the same old shit every year with this staff. People think we're saving stuff in the playbook and we get to the end and there's nothing. Just the same vanilla there always is.
Shea RPOs are the new PepCat wrinkles.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
This is like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Please boys...lets get this together!!! You can do it! Lets make some plays. I want to win so bad!!!
November 24th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
Lets hold em heading into the half and it could be a different story come the second half!
November 24th, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
This is dumb. This isn't anything like last year's game.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
This s*** is embarrassing. No gameplan whatsoever.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Great gameplan, Jim.
November 24th, 2018 at 4:05 PM ^
Jim Harbaugh has a game plan for today?
Could’ve fooled me
November 24th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
At this point I hope we lose by 40. Get a real offensive coordinator. And to be completely honest, I’m fed up with Don Brown’s aggressive defense.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
And to be completely honest, I’m fed up with Don Brown’s aggressive defense.
I've seen 2 blitzes this half...
it's the receiver mis-matches which are killing M
November 24th, 2018 at 1:46 PM ^
Hard to criticize Don Brown's Defense, but if there is any, it would be that it breaks down when it meets very good to great players at the skill position. Almost like a great spread offense that meets a great speed defense. Just cannot sustain itself.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Hard to criticize Don Brown's Defense,
I wasn't.
I was replying to the comment that it's too aggressive.
I didn't see aggression killing M in the 1st half. It's the mis-matches OSU is creating.
November 24th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
Sorry, I was making a statement. I wasn't suggesting you were being critical of Don Brown's Defense. I was trying to suggest that his formula works like a charm until you meet great athletes at the skill position.
If you can continually make plays on the corners that are 1 on 1 then you are gonna beat his Defensive concept all day long.
November 24th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
For the second half I was hoping Brown would sellout and go for the blitzes, because having that extra DB wasn't getting it done. Sadly it didn't happen.
November 24th, 2018 at 5:25 PM ^
Especially when you get no pass rush.
November 24th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
Don Brown shouldn't get much sleep until November 30, 2019.
November 24th, 2018 at 4:08 PM ^
Man coverage when you don't get home is a recipe for problems.
Brown's defensive stats are always going to look good against mediocre and even above average offenses because they will exploit mismatches. But when you don't get the mismatches and a team runs man beaters every play, that's going to cause problems--big problems!
This game was always going to come down to whether Ohio State could protect well enough and get open enough to create big plays in the passing game--stats be damned. They clearly have been able to do that.
November 24th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
This is exactly the issue. Their NFL caliber WRs are owning our DBs and LBs.
November 24th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
November 24th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Their WR's are open because they are faster / better athletes and we play press / one on one with our corners almost 100% of the time. That is what Don Brown's defensive concept is predicated upon. If you can bust his scheme, with greater athletes than what the DB's can cover (see Watson and their picking on him in the first half) then the defensive scheme breaks down. You then have to switch to a zone defense which is what Don Brown doesnt want to do.
November 25th, 2018 at 6:49 AM ^
Our problem was our 3rd, 4th, and 5th cover guys looked like high school kids chasing track stars from behind. This was a scheme problem today if you can’t get pressure.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
I think if we fake 15 or 20 more end-arounds and jet sweeps, we'll eventually get a run play of 10 yards, and we can celebrate.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
we'll eventually get a run play of 10 yards
Eventually we'll get cumulative 10 yards
November 24th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
but it looks like Ohio State actually looked at our game tape and saw how Indiana exposed us with the crossing routes
OSU is having their way with getting WRs on LBs and TEs on DBs.
This game is over.
November 24th, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
I so don't want to believe you, but if we cannot make a significant defensive adjustment, I think you are probably right.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
Everyone plays up for Michigan. O line isn't great. What are you going to do
November 24th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
I don't know if "everyone" plays up for Michigan, but what I do know is Ohio State does.
If OSU pulls this win out it will just solidify that Urban (as much as a scumbag of a human being he is) is just in a different class of a football coach than Harbaugh.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
Put Ambry in for Watson
open up the passing offense
tell the fucking dline to get pressure
November 24th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
Our DL is getting owned. There is no adjustment for that.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
And the linebackers exploited. Been an issue all season long. That shit isn't going to get fixed at halftime.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
Gentry has to catch that ball...
November 24th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
That would be a good adjustment.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
Not run Evans again...
November 24th, 2018 at 1:37 PM ^
Stop. Fucking. Panicking.
November 24th, 2018 at 2:09 PM ^
That's what we do. You might as well ask us not to breath. 13 of 14 years will do that to you. Call it a PTSD response.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
F yea ....Nico!!!!!
November 24th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
Again. Stop the god damn panicking!
November 24th, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
Motherfuckin boom!!!!
November 24th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
Kick the extra point ...ugh
November 24th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
November 24th, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
Try again (lose) next year. Rinse repeat. That's our gameplan.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
Had don brown ever heard of Ohio state? Did he know the name or number of any player on their offense?
November 24th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Well, a lot of people wanted OSU to beat Maryland and be "as highly ranked as possible" to play us. Happy?
I've never understood that masochistic thinking. If the Maryland QB completes that 2-pointer, we're already B1G East champs and headed to Indy, and OSU is probably demoralized.
November 24th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
Yeah, probably not a popular pick, but I'll take the automatic trip to the BigTen Championship every damn time.
November 24th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
November 24th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Maybe get OSU Oline a holding call or two? Holy fuck. How can any objective eye look at the pressure they've got all year and see what they've been unable to do this game and not realize they are holding the shit outta them.?
