Michigan should be #4, ahead of LSU

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on October 25th, 2018 at 11:43 AM

The stunningly beautiful and obviously brilliant Maria Taylor argues that we should be the #4 team when the first CFP Rankings come out.

Also, Pep said we reworked our entire offensive scheme to suit Shea's talents.

These arguments should be saved or ignored until the season is over. Also, even at that point I could care less what Maria Taylors thoughts are on this subject.

1) We need to win them all- I think that would make us likely, but not certain to make the playoffs.

Much as this runs counter to my typical rooting interests we want:

2) ND to either win out, or lose twice. If they win out it preserves the very high quality of our road loss. If they lose 2, we can ignore them.

If they lose 1 and it is a close one, then if we are competing with them for the 4th spot, then there will be some sentiment that the head to head is the decisive factor. I do not agree with that, but I'm not completely comfortable that the committee won't see it that way.

3) We should pull for Alabama to win out (sigh). I agree with the posters above that a close Bama loss to LSU could put them in as a second SEC team along with a potential 1 loss SEC champion.

I think it's fine that they're ahead of us. They've played a pretty tough schedule and have a couple good wins. Our only good wins are Wisconsin and MSU and neither are world beaters. LSU has about 4 wins on par with our MSU win and a couple superior to our Wisconsin victory. Florida isn't a bad loss either.

What's really notable about this thread is not so much the content as the fact that FauxMo and The Mad Hatter just posted back-to-back threads on the board.

And to make things really bizarre, both threads are actually about football. Maybe the team really IS doing something special.

I know I'm a homer, and my football knowledge is far more limited than many of the other posters here, but this season is starting to feel special in a 1997 way.  We're getting better every week and while WI and MSU aren't great this year, doing what we did to both teams isn't easy even in a down year.

Remember Judgment Day against PSU?  Ranked 3 and 4.  And we pounded the hell out of them.  After that day we all knew it was real.  I think it's going to take until the OSU game this year before everyone believes.

It would be so awesome to see Michigan in the playoffs, but baby steps. Just beat OSU. Purdue has a better record against OSU in the last 15 years. Fuckin Purdue!!

Where's the video? I don't want to sit here and waste 15 minutes of my time thinking about Maria Taylor when I could just watch a video.

Ridiculous.

I've watched this goddamn clip twice, and all I see is some jughead with big ears and Brady Quinn, and I had to watch another annoying Discovercard commercial and then some dumbass ADT commercial to even see those clowns.

From what I can tell, Maria Taylor is stupid and ugly to boot.

Yeah, the folks that have been saying that our offense is just "tweaked" this year either don't know football or have lost their minds.  The scheme is substantially different, and it's paying dividends.  Great job by JH and the staff to have the humility to change course.

I'm with Greg Dooley regarding this - it's been so long since we've sniffed the B1G title and been to the Rose Bowl. Playoff would be nice, but didn't Bo say "you win the Big Ten, you're awarded the national title," or something to that effect? I take the playoff in the same stride - you're awarded a spot for a great season, but the Big Ten title is one we can win and haven't in a long while.

In addition to a lot of football being left to play that will absolutely shift the argument around, I'd also just flat be ecstatic to spend my NYD in Pasadena. If we keep winning I'm happy and wherever we spend the New Year will be a treat.

What difference does it make? All that matters is where you land after conference championship week. They also have a far better win on their resume than what we have right now. Pasting then #2 Georgia.

LSU plays Bama next week so we’ll know exactly how good they are after that game. If they win, they deserved to be ahead of us the whole time. If they lose, they’re more than likely going to to be behind us after that anyway.

LSU best then number 2 Georgia.

They deserve it.

Besides, theyll either be below us if they lose to Bama (and we beat Penn State) or they’d jump us anyways if they beat Bama.

The rankings right now for top 5 really don’t matter too much.  Too many big games ahead that’ll shake things out.

NW home vs ND may clear things up. Not expecting a NW, but they have played to the level of their competition since our game. That way, even if LSU beats Bama and Bama finishes 11-1, we would face Clemson if we ended #4.

LSU probably deserves it right now. Hope they beat alabama.

Jim McElwain is a pretty good coach. Wish he was talked to more.

You're tripping

The only way michigan wins out yet still gets snubbed is if LSU beats alabama. An LSU win over bama is probably enough for the committee to choose LSU over michigan

We NEED Alabama to win out

Clemson and Notre dame are likely to win out. So Clemson alabama and Notre dame are near locks.

I dont really care if were 4th or 5th or 2nd

If we win out we should be in. The only way I think we could get snubbed is if Clemson, Notre dame, and LSU win out because Bama is in even if they lose to LSU and an LSU upset win over Bama would likely keep them ahead of us

This is why the bullshit of rooting for everybody we hate in our division to lose needs to end. If Ohio State and Penn State were .500 teams and we beat them and win out including a win over an average Wisconsin again in the conference championship and Alabama has one loss to LSU, we would definitely be ranked behind Alabama. We need our opponents--especially our rivals--to be ranked as highly as possible at season end.
