Good.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:30 AM ^
Not good. I don't want this to become a trend for college players, particularly another All-BIG defensive end who is currently nursing an injury.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:33 AM ^
A couple of my friends are convinced that Gary is secretly out for the year...I guess we will find out.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
I'm leaning in that direction too.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:44 AM ^
Ditto. Sucks, but Uche and Kwitty are more than serviceable replacements.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
Are they insiders?
October 16th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
No. They're fans. Fans come up with stuff like this all the time. We all have things we imagine that wind up being crazy.
And it's not like this didn't cross all of our minds when we read about Bosa.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
Not necessarily, but more connected than me. They were walk on players about 6 years ago. I wasn't suggesting that I agree but I wouldn't fault gary if that is what he chose to do, particularly because his shoulder didn't seem to heal over the offseason.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:23 PM ^
The more Winovich balls out without Gary in the lineup, the more money Gary loses. Maybe Gary is still a top-10 pick if he doesn't play again, but with Bosa and Christian Wilkins also in this draft, Gary may slide down the draft board to later in the 1st round.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
Is Rashan projected to be a 1st round pick at this point? I don’t get the impression that he is - probably more like round 2-3. If that is the case, does he leave or stay and continue to build his draft stock? That approach appears to be working for Winovich.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Yes he is projected as 1st Rounder.
October 16th, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
So you're saying Gary may stay?! :)
October 16th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
Winovich had zero TFLs in the 2 games Gary didn’t play.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
He hasn't put up huge numbers this year, so it definitely makes financial sense to sit out rather than continue to play injured and below his abilities.
I think this sort thing is only going to get more common.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:41 AM ^
Maybe if he could just play one more game........ Even injured, he is a one man option and end-around killing machine and MSU runs a lot of that stuff.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
I could see him playing on an "as needed" basis. From all accounts, he's a good kid and a good teammate.
I would really like for him to end his Michigan career
(1) Healthy enough to earn his NFL money
(2) with wins over MSU, PSU, and OSU
October 16th, 2018 at 12:00 PM ^
He's already beat MSU and PSU.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
Doing all three in one season is a little different... don't you think?
October 16th, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
A little too ironic. Yeah I really do think.
October 16th, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^
It's likely to rain on gameday.
Gary's getting a free ride at UM but if he leaves it's one he just didn't take.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
I've heard the same thing. Notice how less effective Chase is without Gary?
October 16th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
To be honest, not really.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:00 PM ^
You mean, in the game against the 2nd best OL in the country? Pretty sure that'll make a lot of D linemen less effective.
Or the game before when the other team completely avoided him and thus made him very effective if not directly productive.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^
When both Gary and Winovich are playing, the other team's offense can't avoid both of 'em. So yes, your observation about running away from Winovich a couple of weeks ago--with Gary out of the game--makes the point.
October 16th, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
Plus, both Maryland and Wisky didn't pass much. Harder for a sack.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Notice how less effective Chase is without Gary?
Sarcasm?
October 16th, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
I didn't really notice against Wisconsin but in general losing a star starter is almost always a bad thing.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
As soon as he didn’t even dress for the UW game as he was expected to, I was worried about this. But unlike Bosa, Gary isn’t a lock for a top 5. Honestly he could maybe even use another year to be an all conference guy.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
Not happening. He’s a first rounder.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:20 PM ^
If this were basketball with a pretty level rookie scale for first rounders, that'd be enough, but in football there's a big difference between the top of the first round and bottom of the first round.
Bradley Chubb, the highest DE taken in 2018, got a $27.5 guaranteed contract as the 5th pick. That's pretty standard for a top 5 pick.
Marcus Davenport was taken just 9 picks later and only got less than $14 million. The guys at the end of the 1st round got less than $10 million.
There is huge value in moving up to the top 5. It's a steep decline after that. It very much could be worth it for Gary to get an insurance policy, come back next year healthy and try to get into the top 5 if he's projected as a late 1st rounder now.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
Bosa is a lock for top 5 money. Gary IMO needed a good year to be taken in the top 5. He’d still be a first rounder but if he is done, then I think he slips late.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
He should go. He's had a bum shoulder two years in a row now. If he stays and has a bum shoulder again... that's not going to be good for his draft stock.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
Yeah, that is a really good point. It is not as though Gary has gone shooting up to the top of draft boards this year so it probably is not apples to apples with Bosa.
October 16th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
No idea if Gary is returning this week, or any week this year. Would be very disappointing if he does not return. The coaches seem to want him to play. If UofM doctors say he won’t cause permanent damage he needs to play. If he is risking long term health I understand. I sure hope he plays this weekend. Hopefully his boys Bush and Dwumfour put a little pressure on him to play.
October 16th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
Sorry Gucci but I have problems with...
"The coaches seem to want him to play." Which to me suggests they think he can play. Everybody wants Gary to play. There is nothing I have seen or heard that suggests the coaches and Gary are not on the same page.
"Hopefully his boys Bush and Dwumfour put a little pressure on him to play." Do you really believe Gary is milking it and he needs pressure from teammates get out and play? Because that is the clear inference of the comment.

Are these friends of yours Counterstrike friends?
October 16th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Lower grade AC injury recovery time is typically 4-6 weeks.
If his grade is bad enough to require surgery, post-op recovery is 6-9 months.
The dilemma for Rashan is the NFL evaluation period ... the combine is Feb 26 - Mar 4 with pro days Mar 7 - Apr 7 (Michigan's will be late in the month of March). If he waits 4-6 weeks and comes back to ultimately require surgery, it could really impact is draft position. If he has surgery immediately, then he could be ready for at least the pro day workouts.
Wild bet here - his mother wants to see the degree obtained, so he plays this year (after the bye week). Has surgery in the offseason and comes back for his senior year. He was hampered all of last year (and this year) with this AC issue and it has impacted his performance. The NFL will want to see how he does healthy before betting big first round $money on him. He definitely has that kind of talent, so coming back for another year to prove it as a "healthy Rashan Gary" could increase his contract by $5-10MM if he goes high in the first round versus slipping to a later round as the "injured Rashan Gary".
October 16th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
As it's an election year... I approve this message!!
October 16th, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
Gary had an instagram story that had a picture that said God's Timing
October 16th, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
His mom doesnt want him to play another snap. He done
October 16th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
Obviously, none of us would want to see that, and any time a guy with his prospects deals with an injury before his draft year this is becoming a worry.
But it's premature to assume that this is happening with Gary. Not yet.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
I wouldn't mind seeing it at all. By all accounts Gary has given everything he can to Michigan for 2 1/2 years. If he did decide to sit in order to secure his future because there was a risk to his draft potential because of an injury, I wouldn't blame him one bit. If Gary was my kid and faced with that situation, I'd advise him to sit.
Let's hope that's not the case and he can go on Saturday.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:50 AM ^
Yeah, I mean, if he made that decision I would completely respect it. I just wanted to see the full death-kill gear in action before he left so as a fan I would feel a little bummed out, that's all.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:02 PM ^
I would be very bummed out. That would mean a lost year of Gary, a lost year of Peppers, a lost year of McGary... have we had any other top ten recruits since football and basketball have been good again?
October 16th, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
We should recruit someone named McPeppers
October 16th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^
Hasn't every player given just as much as Gary?
October 16th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
Your point...... I'm just not seeing it.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:56 PM ^
He said Rashan has given everything he can give to Michigan for 2 1/2 years. I said, so as every player that plays on this team, unless you think they don't work as hard or try as hard as Gary. Just because a player is less talented, doesn't mean he gives less.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
The obvious distinction is that not everyone has a lottery ticket waiting for them at the end of their Michigan football career. So they don't risk what Gary is risking In This Completely Hypothetical Scenario.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
When bad things happen to Ohio State don’t question them...just say thank you and move on.
