I know that others disagree with this, but many of those "solid color" outs at other schools are done in the color of their primary home jersey or whiteouts, which means the away jersey can be worn.
Marketing simultaneously wants you to shell out $90 for a navy Jumpman jersey and wear maize to the stadium, the primary place that you would expect a person to want to wear a jersey. It's cognitive dissonance.
Also, once you get into winter jacket territory in November, you're going to have a heck of a time getting any sort of "color" out.

I will be there and will wear maize. The first 50,000 fans will receive maize rally towels. These are really lame compared to the maize pom-poms they used to give out...to almost everyone. I wish Warde would watch a tape of the first ND Under the Lights game and see how good the pom-poms looked on TV (and in the stadium for that matter).

Would someone more knowledgeable than I please explain the recent history of selecting maize as the color for this? This wasn’t a thing when I was a student.
Is it as simple as pure corporatism that some athletic director wanted more maize apparel to be bought?
I will be there in maize with my two kids in maize but I can tell you in my college football experience our maize outs are among the weakest in the CF landscape.
Most folks don’t want to wear maize and more importantly it’s a weak color when it’s the primary solid color. You will see that today when compared to the Nebraska red in the stadium later today.
As much as I hate to say it, the Penn State white out is something they pull off very well.

Here is a thought everyone going to the game get in the game before kickoff instead of worrying what someone is wearing. A noon game maize out is ridiculous. In this age of social media I don’t think you need a pre determine maize out. Oh and BTW it’s Go BLUE with blue home jerseys!

When I see a guy on the street wearing an M shirt I always say “go maize”. So this is a great idea.
