that's fair and I see your point; actively associating and speaking out against is a strong message.

I dunno know what would bring about quicker change that or all of a sudden a school prides itself on it's quality education with no one claiming a degree from there, whose "largest living alumni" base no longer exists, 200+ games with greater than 100K disappears.  A lot of the things that michigan has are size, and if we lose 20-50% of the fan and alumni base it will take a HUGE hit to the brand.

So I dunno... probably no right answer and some combination of both; boycot products while speaking out against

So the head of the MSU Athletic Department covered up rape of a student athlete by a department sanctioned physician.  Ever a more clear cut case of lack of institutional control, I haven't seen it.  Quantifying this in the language of NCAA regulations actually doesn't even come close to being adequate.

Two things:

1) We have had cause to suspect Nassar taped some of his assaults, at least some reporting have indicated that some of the child pornography he was cited for in federal court was self-produced.

2) I don't think any previous Nassar victim has alleged anything beyond digital penetration.  At least as I remember the impact statements.  That would somehow escalate his crimes, which I didn't really think possible.

She has a first-rate lawyer.  Brian McKeen isn't a publicity hound but he is extremely effective in representing his clients.  He is very successful and can be very selective about the cases he takes.  We will see what comes out but when I saw he was the plaintiff's lawyer it added about 10x to the credibility of the allegations.

This is Penn State level excrement. Some outside law enforcement agency please step in and do what's right!! Man, our world is so disturbing at times.Sadly, I don't think they'll ever truly get to the bottom of this simply because no one wants too.

Beyond the MSU police who are far from neutral and East Lansing police, which only have jurisdiction if its off campus we're left with the Ingham County Sherriff's department.  All investigations and evidence would then be turned over to the prosecutor's office.  The head prosecutor of 30 plus years is now in jail for sex trafficking crimes that went back decades.  Catch the drift here.

This shit is not an accident

This is disgusting beyond words.  And Nassar is a bigger POS than I ever imagined.  This whole ordeal didn't start with Kathy Klages not believing three victims in 1996.  And this 1992 rape may not be the first incident either.  He had to have started right out of the gate.

Perles was good friends with Bo.  I wonder what Bo would have to think about his longtime friend doing this.  Seriously, Perles can rot in hell.  Paterno will show you the way.

How is it that Michigan State still has an Athletic Department at this point?  These people were monsters.

There should be a whole gaggle of people in jail for life.

Aaaaand...unfortunately, nothing will come of this, because:

  1. There will be no record of her reporting this to the police (surprise!)
  2. The officer that told her to drop it is NEVER going to admit to speaking with her, though even if they can prove that, he'll never cop to saying any of what the allege
  3. The athletic department will simply have a record of a report that was dismissed for whatever reason they provided at the time
  4. If any evidence at all exists that Perles intervened, it will undoubtedly"not exist" very soon, given that MSU has already shown a certain proclivity for CYA no matter what
  5. Poof, it is gone.

Their only hope is that there is evidence of forcing the coach to return the video and her dismissal that is somehow damning enough to get a conviction.

It's sort of forgotten, but he also had a season full of wins vacated because of grade tampering and other such infractions.  Like, this guy has a record of being shady, though I'll admit that covering up a rape wasn't something I would have assumed until, oh, a year ago.

This serves as a good riposte for the people criticizing Brian’s Iowa post.  People claimed that  college sports in particular wasn’t making things worse than they already were.  But here we can see that’s false.  Fucking Perles is only “a powerful man” because of fucking college sports.  That’s the way he every position of power he’s ever held (he wasn’t elected because of his astonishing wit!).  We let universities become state funded farm leagues for pro football and basketball, which evolved into them becoming their own little fifedoms where the Paternos, Perles, etc can do whatever they want, except lose games.  It’s awful.

Not sure of a crime committted.  But he should not be on the board of trustees and his MSU retirement pension should probably come under question.

For me, this lawsuit connects some dots, I always felt like his retirement was rushed.  It all makes some sense now.  It also makes some sense why the Prez and Hollis jumped ship so early.  MSU has actually done an incredible job with damage control and mitigating what becomes public and what doesn't.  But you have to wonder how much longer it will be before that dam bursts.

East Lansing is the cesspool of the great State of Michigan.  Every place needs a toilet to flush its waste and that place is MSU.

I don't know how anyone can be a fan of these places. If Michigan did this, I wouldn't be a fan anymore. No questions. Just done. I'd probably root for Syracuse or my wife's school or something. These people who are somehow still out there supporting these athletic departments... I don't know, man. I just don't know.

As a Penn State fan/alumni who detests the university administration (past and present, with the exception of Rodney Erickson's brief tenure) and loathes the Paterno denialists, I hang on out of stubbornness and to burst the bubble of Joe Bots who think the Sandusky scandal is an "us vs. them" issue.  I have a few friends in the same boat.  I wouldn't give money to that school in a million years though.

Certainly don't blame anyone who just boycotts the place though.
