Jim Harbaugh Presser, Tarik Black has fracture
Tarik Black: It's a fracture, similar to the one in the other foot last year
Winovich, Gentry, Watson, Runyan, Mone, JBB, Bredeson, Bush, have all emerged as leaders
Shea Patterson, he's really been good, focused, his level of focus and intesity ahs been really good. He's the one playing the best
I feel good about Notre Dame
Starting tackles: progressing well, forging on, ready to attack this week
6 minute video from "Michigan Football". First 30 seconds the camera is sideways.

I'll take your word for it on the summation. Harbaugh press conferences don't exactly stir the soul. Bring out Don Brown or Ed Warrinner.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
Have to think he's out most of the regular season then, if not all of it.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
Winovich, Gentry, Watson, Runyan, Mone, JBB, Bredeson, Bush, have all emerged as leaders
This is an interesting list in light of the recently announced captains. Why isn't Winovich a captain? Higdon and Kinnel, are captains, why aren't they on the list (unless they didn't emerge as leaders because they already were leaders)?
August 27th, 2018 at 1:09 PM ^
You have to watch the video to get the context. He was saying Kinnel and Higdon are the senior captains then named all the other seniors that are leadership roles on the team.

Depends on what he fractured in his foot, In football I stress fractured my fifth metatarsal and played last 2 games with it and actually was fine, basketball made worse running on hard court but I didn't stop playing.
he could be out anywhere 6-10 weeks my guess, penn state is probably a good guess to be back
August 27th, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
Next man up!!! Nico says "Lets GO"!!!
August 27th, 2018 at 1:05 PM ^
Time to break out the Adamantine infusions, for everyone. Tarik first.
August 27th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
It's a Wolverine specialty, after all.

Just in time for the CFP.

Black: Well, it's not good, but if he could be ready to go fully by the OSU game and beyond, that would still be a big boost to the team.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
That sucks for Black. I forget, did Black wind up getting a redshirt last year?
August 27th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
No. When asked if he was going to apply for one earlier this year, he said "No, I'm not going to need it". Supremely confident young man. Now he may need it.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
Could these types of injuries be the cause of technique? I remember someone a few years back did an amazing analysis of Drake Johnson's running style and he predicted it was going to lead to knee injuries And then it happened.
August 27th, 2018 at 3:32 PM ^
i thought harris had multiple hamstring issues
August 27th, 2018 at 3:44 PM ^
Yes. Different Drake.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
Since he did this a week before the season and last year it was 3 weeks later. You’d have to assume he will be back by the penn st game.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
Whats the news on Gary? Rumors were circulating he was hurt.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
He was “banged up” after Saturday but the rumors are that he should be ready to go on Saturday.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
Well if it’s a similar injury to last year and happening a month earlier, it’s conceivable that he could be back by the last few games of the season. I believe Harbaugh said he could’ve been back for the Outback Bowl
Possibly get a game or two under his belt before heading to OSU.

Harbaugh still with no comment on Durkin - straight up bad look. It's disappointing and he needs to talk about whether there were any concerns about his coaching style while he was at Michigan and Stanford, because Harbaugh employed him at two schools. Durkin should have been snuffed out of high level coaching a while before he facilitated the death of a player.
Harbaugh asked about allegations against DJ Durkin, Peppers' comments that he bordered on "bully coaching" when he was here. Harbaugh had nothing to say on the matter.

What can he even say? Not his program and anything he would say would likely implicate himself.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:02 PM ^
Yeah, this has nothing to do with Harbaugh. Durkin has been out of our program for three years now. And if the players believe he was a bully when here, then Harbaugh did the right thing letting him go somewhere else.
Anyway, expect the Free Press to make a big fucking deal over this because it's the Free Press.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
I don't have a problem with how he handled it. If he says something critical, it's front-page news: "HARBAUGH TRASHES FORMER ASSISTANT!!". If he says nothing, it gets a couple of snarky tweets. I'll take the latter. I'm sure many folks disagree.
August 27th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
I don't think Harbaugh should say anything. It's not our program. What happened at Maryland is entirely indefensible. And it's also possible that at Maryland Durkin and his staff went to another extreme.
It's pretty simple actually. Michigan wasn't the first place Harbaugh worked with Durkin so if he says he was a bully, that's a bad look. If he says he wasn't bully coach that's a bad look, because kid has already died.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
They still don't know if surgery is required, but Harbaugh seemed to hint at that. Mentioned something about how "they fixed the left and will now fix the right." Sort of alludes to structural issue. However, still expects big things from him.
Then again, maybe I'm reading too in between the lines.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
Not an ortho doc, but I wonder if there is a congenital condition to predispose to bone foot fractures. Perhaps someone with more knowledge may weigh in. Otherwise very unlucky. Get well young man.
August 27th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Osteogenesis Imperfecta comes to mind, but if he had this he would never be allowed to play football. Probably unlucky structure of the bones of his feet. Maybe shoulda had him jump roping to death after the last injury.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
". . . jump roping to death"
That pretty much would guarantee that he'd never play football again. Has any deceased person ever been on Michigan's active roster? Would Wolverine Devotee know the answer?
August 27th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
Guess I will have to dial back the hyperbole for you.
August 27th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
MGK10, don't dial back the hyperbole. Just sit back and watch.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
Sad to hear. Hopefully Tarik makes a full recovery.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
Normally better a bone than soft tissue but the same one in both feet is pretty weird. Maybe there's something structurally off about his feet.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Interesting conjecture. The way Harbaugh phrased it, this could be the case.
"Now both feet will be fixed," Harbaugh said. "You only have two feet. You've got 'em both fixed -- and they will be shortly. No about it, the best is yet to come for Tarik Black."
August 27th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
I wouldn't be surprised if there is something about the way he runs or that way his foot is structured that is causing him to experience foot problems.
I developed a condition in my left foot due to the way I run that I had to have surgery on because of all the beating on my feet from sports. And, now it's developing in my right foot.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
Black was the player I was looking forward to seeing the most, other than Patterson, obviously.
I was also hoping to see him go all Mario Manningham on Notre Dame’s secondary.
Curse you, injury gods.
August 27th, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
Indeed.
August 27th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Remember Bill Walton and his battle with his foot injuries, or Greg Odom?
Hopefully this will be Blacks last issue with his feet, but history says it may not be....
August 27th, 2018 at 3:26 PM ^
I’ll counter those with Zydrunas Ilgauskas. He had a couple of foot injuries his first couple of years but surgery and orthotics helped him to a long productive career. Hope it is the same for Black!
August 27th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Greg oden has microfractures surgeries in his knees
August 27th, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
My bad, I remember him leaving his first NBA game with foot injury. I never followed his career closely and thought it was his feet that forced his retirement.
Thanks for the info!!
August 27th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
Ahhh, meh. If this team can't excel without Mr. Black then they aren't much to begin with. My guess, is we won't miss him until he comes back and shakes off accumulated rust. Nico gonna step up. and potato salad.
August 27th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
Looks like Harbaugh said Tarik will be out "for some weeks." That could mean three weeks, could mean 12. But its far better than him saying he's done for the year.
At least there's a shot he'll be back.
August 27th, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
Like a few have said, it really depends if his fracture requires surgery. If the displacement fracture is greater than 2-3mm they will have to go in. Hopefully it isn't that severe and he can get back to non contact conditioning in 4-6 weeks.
August 27th, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
Damnit!
Where in the hell is Dr. Scholl's when you need him?!
August 27th, 2018 at 6:08 PM ^
I wonder how Bo would have fared in this electronic media blitz where everyone is now on top of every little thing.
August 27th, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
SIAP:
The way Jim said "now both feet will be fixed" made it seem like Tarik had something structurally wrong with his feet. Hopefully Harbaugh is right and this is the end of the injury bug for Tarik.
