Is Dan Dakich awful or is it just me?
January 18th, 2014 at 10:41 PM ^
It's always a chicken and egg thing with national personalities acting up on twitter, but he was trolling Anthony Wright (and Michigan generally) on twitter very hard for a while. Announcing, to me at least, seemed to be a decent story.

January 18th, 2014 at 10:32 PM ^
He's kind of annoying.
January 18th, 2014 at 10:33 PM ^
Dakich isn't as bad as the refs in the UConn Louisville game. Jeez this is incredibly bad reffing.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:05 PM ^
The Ollie toss-out was pretty bad - they could have done a little less there and been fine. The no-call was pretty awful also. That sequence completely changed this game.

His "analysis" is awful. Multiple times, a Michigan player missed an open shot and he blamed it on not swinging the ball enough. At other times, he had a feeling a certain team was going to make a run.
It's ridiculous what passes for analysis in sports broadcasts these days.
January 18th, 2014 at 10:40 PM ^
IIRC, the comment about not swinging the ball enouch occurred while we let the game get too close to comfort...in the midst of the 3-4 trips in which levert didn't pass the ball and instead tried to create his own shot upon touching the ball.
just pointing this out from what i remember

I'm sure Beilein would agree and took Levert out shortly thereafter for that exact reason. Too much 1 on 1, or in his case 1 on 2, particularly against a Wisky team that does not defend with great energy or speed (another DD point well illustrated).
January 18th, 2014 at 10:59 PM ^
Levert plays hard and I have no problem with him on the team, but he drives me nuts. When Coach B had Stauskas out of the game and Levert in, his decision making led to three straight God awful possessions which was when Wisky got back in it. He makes plays but until he improves his passing and his ability to be more decisive without over dribbling, he won't be a complete player.

I see several mentions of Dakich calling out the Knicks, but how is he not getting credit for calling out Izzo for whining about injuries??? It was glorious, thanks Dakich!
January 18th, 2014 at 10:48 PM ^
That was awesome. It was definitely a shot at Izzo and it was well deserved.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:16 PM ^
and very true.
I try to explain to some of my Spartan friends my feelings about Izzo but they never want to even listen for a second. I give him all the praise in the world for his coaching.. but the cry baby routine and begging the refs, being SO over the top, etc.. they'll ignore it to their deaths. Fortunately there's a ton of pictures/gifs/video on the internet I can keep sending them.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:23 PM ^
I'm glad I'm not the only one who grinned at his mention of coaches who do nothing but bemoan their glut of injuries. Izzo practically starts every interview with a rundown of guys on their deathbed in East Lansing. No one cares about your woes, Tom.
You never hear JB utter a damn word about how this team needs Mitch here, lacks Mitch there, struggles because of Mitch's absence everywhere. Fuck that shit. He makes no excuses.
I love John Beilein.
January 18th, 2014 at 10:38 PM ^
They've gotta do all their shit on the fly, with a million people listening. Now that's pressure.

Dan Dakich @dandakich 11m
Not 1 Michigan coach-player or staff member even brings up McGary being out.. Other schools?? If a guy has the sniffles they 're "banged up"
Dan Dakich @dandakich 9m
Btw..Sobolewski was out for Northwestern..never heard a word from NW..Wisky kids had bad flu..Bo was mad that someone mentioned it
January 18th, 2014 at 10:43 PM ^
I like when he and Tirico are teamed up. It's fun and educational. You guys who don't like him sound like OSU fans who bitch about Herby....Many IU fans HATE him because he doesn't suck up to Crean's team ... I grew up watching Dickie V coach at Callahan Hall and then revitaleizing the Pistons. Loved the man, but I am growing old of his rambling with the same old overhyping schtick. Maybe Dan D will wear on me eventually but Iike his style now... he is an entertaining twitter follow too btw.
January 18th, 2014 at 10:44 PM ^
He sounded like an obnoxious, drunk, and arrogant douche on cocaine tonight... He really does sound very unintelligent with the way he repeats himself so often... I honestly don't know what ESPN sees in him.

wow, a lot going on there

Seriously dude? You do remember his son plays for OUR team right?
January 19th, 2014 at 12:07 AM ^
Sounds like a busy guy.

January 18th, 2014 at 10:49 PM ^
loved his call of the Staukas three though - he was in awe of that play.
January 18th, 2014 at 10:50 PM ^
Surprised no one has mentioned what he said in the post game, that Wisconsin was still the best team in the Big 10 despite the loss, that Iowa was #2, followed by MSU and then OSU.
He didn't even mention us, so I guess I'll assume we were #5. That's what a 5-0 start and a road win over the #1 team gets you, apparently.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:03 PM ^
I think he may be sandbagging it a little because his kid's on the team - pretty sure Dan was pleased with tonight's result.
January 19th, 2014 at 1:57 AM ^
It was the studio guy.

I was so blinded with rage I got confused!

January 18th, 2014 at 10:52 PM ^
He was annoying at times but I forgave him after he became the first media member ever to (indirectly) call out Izzo for his constant woe-is-me crap. I loved the comparison he made between Beilein and "other coaches" (read: Izzo) regarding injury excuses.
January 19th, 2014 at 9:43 AM ^
January 19th, 2014 at 12:39 PM ^
That was a little different thought. Holtz would talk up his next opponent and pooh-pooh his team as a motivational tactic. Izzo bitches after the fact that his guys are injured and/or went to the NBA, with no apparent purpose other than to make excuses.
January 18th, 2014 at 10:59 PM ^
January 18th, 2014 at 11:01 PM ^
I didn't think he was bad at all. Just thank the stars it wasn't Vitale.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:02 PM ^
Now we just need the other obligatory bitch thread about the awful referees.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:14 PM ^
He doesn't bother me. I don't agree with everything he says but he is no more annoying than others. He does have some odd opinions at times though.

To me, he doesn't seem as bad as he was last year. Maybe because his son is a Wolverine.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:37 PM ^
can't stand the dude. The old curmudgeon thing is amusing for about 10 minutes then he just seems like a dick.

He talks way too much and has a superlative for EVERY player he talks about: i.e "Nik Stauskas is the hardest working player I have ever seen... Nobody loves playing basketball more than Glenn Robinson... No coach prepares more than John Belien." I find him EXTREMELY annoying.
January 19th, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
And the stuff about Spike's dad. He has to mention that
January 19th, 2014 at 12:47 AM ^
about everything he says, its just the way he says everything.
January 19th, 2014 at 1:04 AM ^
Michigan homer for some reason.
January 19th, 2014 at 1:17 AM ^
Uhhh, maybe because his son is on the team?
