I'm sorry, have you met our offensive line?
January 3rd, 2014 at 2:31 PM ^
No he didn't. DId you even watch the game. Never in a game or on film did i see anything that told me Derrick Green is a 5* RB. Smith was and is the better back.

Mike Hart ran a 4.67 after 4 years at Michigan. So this guy isn't any slower than Hart. Hart played at Michigan at 200 pounds and this guy is 195 right now.
So, I'm sure speed and size are everything. /s

Man, size and speed aren't everything. STARS are everything!

4.69 is what Mike Hart ran at the NFL combine.
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:55 PM ^
Not exactly. He's shiftier than Bell, and he's 6'0", 196 lbs. He's not a blazer, but he has a good combination of speed, agility, and power.
January 3rd, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
I don't know where that time came from, but he was running by everyone. He looked pretty fast to me. I suspect he is closer to 4.5 or 4.4 time. He was definitely one of the best RBs in that game.
January 3rd, 2014 at 4:12 PM ^
Well, never mind those silly combines and such. The kid is just sandbagging with his listed 4.69 time. Bighouse22 says he runs a 4.4!
(I'm just joshin' ya.)
January 3rd, 2014 at 4:16 PM ^
Data is data, I can accept that! He sure looked faster than that during the game though!

He looks awesome in yesterday's game. There's going to be a ton of schools going after him now.
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
It's always nice to take at least 1 running back in each class. Could get playing time as the 4th back next year.
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:15 PM ^
...that he redshirts (or Enwere).
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:21 PM ^
Derrick Green is a bust? C'mon man, we have seen him carry the ball 83 times behind a very young OL and already we must quell our expectations of him? Man, we all need to forget that dickhole punch of a year.
┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ F U 2013!
EDIT: This was intended as a response to MDot. Whoops.... my bad.

Can't hurt that he played on a team with two captains coming to Ann Arbor.
There will certainly be some competition for him, but I gotta think we have a decent shot..
Get Jabrill and Wilt in his ear!

He should have been offered much earlier.
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:24 PM ^
As much as I hate to say it, I agree. I think if Michigan wanted a really good shot, they should have offered before hand. Michigan could still get him, but it'll be much tougher now.

I love the Jones offer. Also, not a hijack, but I just read that Michigan has reached out to Tyler O'Connor (the PSU QB commit) about his interest. They are apparently talking over offering him even though they only planned on taking 1 QB this year. Very interesting developments.

Enrolling early still up in the air for Michael O'Connor. His former coach has heard from Syracuse, MSU and Michigan http://t.co/FMVArHayD3

If you read the blog post he linked to it actually sounds like O'Connor's coach reached out to Borges. Because Al says "we've only thinking about taking one QB" (paraphrasing). Then it sounds like the coach sent the kids tape to Borges and Borges told him they'll review it and get back to him.
Reading between the lines it sounds like Borges is trying to not burn bridges with the coach vs. having actual interest in taking two QB's. The tweet seems to be fishing for clicks...
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:51 PM ^
He apparently thinks Michigan will not offer another QB. There is a thread headline, apparently posted by Sam, that you can see for free on the Scout site that says as much. http://michigan.scout.com/
January 3rd, 2014 at 2:03 PM ^
Is MSU trying to corner the Connor qb market?
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:48 PM ^
Doesn't really make sense to take another QB when we have limited scholarships and could use plenty of help elsewhere.
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:01 PM ^
Also, O'Connor isn't a greyshirt type of player. They would be insulting the kid if that's all they offered him.
January 3rd, 2014 at 4:08 PM ^
I was joking on the scholarship, you don't give up a scholarship to PSU to greyshirt at Michigan.
That said, we're likely to whiff on not one but two DEs, so clearly that is still a position of need in comparison to QB.
We could also use help in the secondary, especially if there is some rumored attrition.
Take a SS, Gant is playing SLB and Furman is Furman, plus he's a 5th year.
I'd much rather take a potenital Kovacs than a QB. Even if it's a Ray Vinopal/Brandent Englemon type. Those are the kinds of underrated kids that you get late. Smart, leader, always in position, coach on the field, Spike Albrecht types.
So YES. We could use plenty of elsewhere. Or were you not watching this year?
Thank you and goodnight.

If true, that has got to make Wilt Speight feel wonderful about himself...
The mind boggles about what on Earth this staff is thinking sometimes.
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:10 PM ^
They may be thinking that we are incredibly thin at quarterback still? And maybe they can address it through recruiting? Crazy.
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:13 PM ^
Not if you tell the kids you recruit that a MIchigan offer is a "big deal" and we only take one per cycle... because if you lie about that you look like a complete dick head. Crazy.
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:57 PM ^
Actually, the coaches told Speight several months ago that they were leaving the door open for another quarterback if necessary, and Speight said he wasn't afraid of the competition. And I don't think the coaches ever guaranteed that Speight would be the only QB in the class in the first place.
January 3rd, 2014 at 5:02 PM ^
January 3rd, 2014 at 1:48 PM ^
ridiculous? I bet Wilton Speight knows a lot more about what is happening than any of us. The players should have just had their exit interviews. The coaches might know something about the roster going forward that isn't public knowledge. Aside from that, taking a second QB in this class seems like a good idea if it's someone they like a lot. It's possible to redshirt one and improve the roster balance, something only made possible by Morris burning his redshirt.
January 3rd, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
I was watching that game and wondering if we had offered him. If not, why not! He was one of the best RBs at that event.
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:29 PM ^
It would be awesome if we could somehow steal him from the Gophers. The dude looked like a beast in the UA game yesterday.
January 3rd, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
