I don't get ours either, but theirs seems even more aggressive. To rank them #4, you really have to think some of their sophomores are going to play well alongside Thomas and Craft. It's not like they brought in any high profile freshmen.

Was Amadeo Dela Valle the only recruit they had for 2012?
October 26th, 2012 at 2:29 PM ^
He was their only signee. They're going to need at least a couple of Ross/Scott/Thompson/Williams to show more than they did last year if they're going to justify that ranking. That can definitely happen (they were all big recruits), but there's a lot of uncertainty there.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:47 PM ^
I only watched him once, but I definitely was not impressed with what I saw. I'd be very surprised if Amadeo had any impact for them this year.

I'm a UM football/IU bball fan (I know, it's weird. But it makes sense to me, ok? Stop looking at me like that). Us Hoosier fans are worried about UM a whole lot more than OSU.
Should be a hell of a game on March 10th - quite possibly playing for the conference title - and hopefully they meet again about four weeks later.
October 26th, 2012 at 7:21 PM ^
Did you just pick one of the top 5 programs in terms of tradition in each sport or what?
October 26th, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
He's also an Iowa wrestling fan, an Oregon cross country fan, and a UC Santa Barbara women's water polo fan.
October 26th, 2012 at 7:49 PM ^
Went to UM, was there for '97. But I was born and raised in Indiana, and if there's one thing from that state you keep, it's IU basketball.
October 27th, 2012 at 10:43 AM ^
Nothing worse than an Oregon cross country bandwagoner. I'd sooner fuck a Yankees fan.
October 26th, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
Michigan has perhaps the top PG in the country. NBA talent at all positions. Depth quality coach. Makes sense to me. Oh and yay im at 500 MGoPoints
October 26th, 2012 at 9:23 PM ^
we have talent all around.

Anyone else see we got Slippery Rock next week? Revive the rivalry!
October 26th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
But we've never played them in football or basketball...
Vive the rivalry?
October 26th, 2012 at 6:07 PM ^
What's our connection to Slippery Rock?
October 26th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
You should wikipedia Slippery Rock.
October 26th, 2012 at 9:25 PM ^
knows about the Slipery Rock connection. -1 to you.
October 27th, 2012 at 10:17 AM ^
Every true Michigan fan needs to know about the connection. Don't negate, educate!

October 26th, 2012 at 3:03 PM ^
The conference as a whole is going to go through the same "oh thank God its basketball season" catharsis that Duke experiences every year.
October 26th, 2012 at 5:13 PM ^
They're finally bowl eligible. They don't suck any more, just medicore!
October 26th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
eligible. When I heard that, I shit myself. Way to go boys.
October 26th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
Did anyone else hear the groan out of the MSU fans at the game Saturday? I was sitting near a few and couldn't help but notice when Michigan flashed their basketball montage up on the screens. A little salty there eh Sparty?
What? You mean they have a better football AND basketball team!!!! Suicide watch.

CBS needs to bring back Gus Johnson to call some Michigan games.
October 26th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
I'm not sure it would work in the booth (and the whole different employers thing), but based on individual talent I pine for a Gus Johnson/Dan Dakich booth. That would be both informative and (OH WOW!) exciting.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:00 PM ^
Hopefully Horford's injury isn't too bad and he can stay healthy throughout the season. I hope we get him back for NC State. It'd be tough to keep up a high ranking throughout the season if Horford is out unless McGary comes out and plays like Sullinger did.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:01 PM ^
Is there any more info on Horford?? I cant seem to find any new info today..Anyone else know??
October 26th, 2012 at 2:09 PM ^
Chris Balas from Rivals says on his twitter..."Rumblings of month to six weeks for jon horford with knee injury. Not yet confirmed" If true, that would keep him out of most of the out of conference schedule.

than OSU or Michigan. Zeller is great, and they're not going to be as dependent on freshman as Michigan is (and they appear to have more depth than OSU does). #1 doesn't seem absurd to me, though I doubt they end the season there, if that makes sense.
October 26th, 2012 at 8:06 PM ^
Who would you rank ahead of us?
October 26th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
Cot Damn I love the Beezer
October 26th, 2012 at 2:10 PM ^
On 247 they are saying 4 to 6 weeks.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
Do they even have a dedicated basketball writer on that site?

October 26th, 2012 at 5:50 PM ^
Yes, but what do the germans say?
October 27th, 2012 at 10:51 AM ^
The German says to wait here.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:17 PM ^
Wow. Michigan hasn't been a consistent top ten team in almost 20 years, and several of the latest ones never happened. What a strange experience this is.
B1G b-ball season is going to be off the hook this year.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:33 PM ^
I know it makes everyone feel good, but any ranking until you are into conference play is largely premature. I would like to see how they do first before pronouncing someone "king".
October 26th, 2012 at 2:43 PM ^
The folks voting in the AP and USA Today polls apparently do a lot of talking to each other to create polling synergies, as their top tens are exactly the same. You have to get to #11 before there is a difference in the preseason polls.
It is nice to see the Big Ten figure prominently (if three out of ten is prominent) in these preseason polls though. As I recall, we've only been ranked in three of the last six preseason polls, and then never this high, not in recent memory. If nothing else, it is a compliment.
October 26th, 2012 at 2:47 PM ^
B1G! B1G! B1G! B1G! B1G!
October 26th, 2012 at 9:49 PM ^
It would be very amusing if a "Bee-Won-Gee" chant broke out during a Big Ten-SEC March Madness game. Heck, maybe it can happen when Indiana takes on Kentucky...oh, wait...

Is there anyhing more pointless in college basketball than rankings? Just about any unranked team can win the title game, which is the beauty of a playoff system.
Anyway, we're going to beat MSU and Ohio twice each this year, so they don't concern me.
October 26th, 2012 at 4:36 PM ^
well get to the sweet 16 this year (crossing fingers)
October 26th, 2012 at 5:50 PM ^
I don't like the ranking due to over hyped expectations by those morons who vote. Rather be #5 going into the tourny.
October 26th, 2012 at 5:57 PM ^
I love how at least one person, but often more, always has to say "I'd rather be ranked high at the end of the season than in these preseason polls."
Well no shit.
