Hey Guys (A Call for Temperance)
Honorable ladies, noble gentlemen of the UM community,
At the risk of being presumptuous, and being fully advised that I am not the most accepted, credible, or palatable ambassador, but fearful that no one else will do so, I offer the following proposal for today:
Let's have fun today watching the next chapter in this in-state rivalry;
Let's be civil to one another, enjoy each other's company, and embrace the positive aspects of the relationship;
Let's make fun of each other, celebrate the highs at the expense of the other and suffer the lows to the delight of the other - but with temperance and good cheer;
Let's reject the bullshit that all too often consumes the dialogue between our respective institutions/communities;
If verbally or otherwise attacked/abused by a lesser member or group of members from the opposing community, let's consider the source, resist generalizations, and have measure in our reactions accordingly;
At the end of the day/game, let's come together, break bread (drink heavily), and celebrate our adult-like relationships, as well as this mutually engrossing game we can look forward to each fall.
To those who cannot accept this proposal, it is my lamentation that your approach to the rivalry has been warped, whether by some ill-meaning and unrepresentative subsection of the other's community or otherwise;
Go Green, Go Blue, Go Tigers.
Humbly submitted,
WD (MSU, 2002)

I haven't started drinking yet, so I think I'm good.
Oh... that's not what you meant?

Sounds like you have already conceded defeat.

This seems a lot like Narduzzi encouraging the refs to "police the action" as he probably fears some repercussions against his cadre of thugs that assaulted (and that is the appropriate word) UM last year in EL.
When Sparty is confident of a win there is no call for "temperance" but when they can feel the winds of change coming suddenly they want to play nice.
Sorry, No sale.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:32 AM ^
This year maybe they aren't favored so all of a sudden a call for responsible discourse. @#$@$# That!
October 20th, 2012 at 11:34 AM ^
Though this was a thread about that woman on Bones. Sad.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:34 AM ^
I agree, and this is something I try to do when I go to games (especially away games).
However, I reserve the right to talk enough trash to fill a landfill from the privacy of my couch...

It might have hashish or exlax in it. Don't remember. Probably both.

Spartans. What high school did they rip that name off of? I like how they think that movie from 2007 is still the coolest fucking thing ever. You've had the most successful run you've had in 30 years and you still couldn't make the Rose Bowl! Time to slip back into mediocrity.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:42 AM ^
This is only possible if the State players come out and dont play like thugs trying to hurt people...and based on the sample size we have I dont think that is likely.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:46 AM ^
Come on, now. How can we hate our own little brother?
October 20th, 2012 at 11:52 AM ^
Maybe becasue he is only our half brother?
October 20th, 2012 at 12:13 PM ^
we should be ambivalent. Yeah, that sounds right.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
I try to be as respectful as I can but all the people calling for Michigan fans to be civil would never do this if MSU were undefeated right now.
Go away Michigan Agricultural College,,,
October 20th, 2012 at 1:01 PM ^
This is EXACLTY why we will never see MSU as a rival equal to OHIO. Can any of you possibly, under any circumstance, see yourself saying the equivalent of "This game doesn't matter" or "nobody cares what happens in this game" about the school down south. No. Never.
Until Spartan fans start realizing this, they can't whine when we refuse to grant them the same level of rivalry of the suckeyes.
Now, then... Back to your end of the pool, Sparty. Go Blue!

but I ain't taking shit either.
Although I truly enjoy the atmosphere at Michigan Stadium, I feel like people get too much leeway to be dicks. Not today, brahs.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:56 AM ^
Seems you're addressing this to the wrong fanbase.
October 20th, 2012 at 12:01 PM ^
It sure isn't the Michigan fans who have the problem being civil

my thesis: Sparty was all up in everyone's sh*t talking broken limbs while they had a half a team. Now they're feeling just a little nervous about the whole damn deal.
Your chance to play fair done come and gone, Spartoon. Yeah, we'll destroy you in civil, between-the-hashmarks fashion. But destruction it will be. In the words of Darius Morriss: don't bring that trash in our house.
Etcetera.

I'm just not sure what the term would be for someone who feels the needs to regularly be reading opposing fans boards.
Bored, preoccupied, resentful, trashy, pathetic losers who all too often use big words to disguise the fact that they never know what they're talking about, and thus feel the need to compensate. I can't stand them either.

Well I'd upvote you here JGB if I didn't have a vested interest, which would make an upvote from me dishonest. But I appreciate the support, and you certainly always have the benefit of my doubt if it's ever called for.
October 20th, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
it's okay. I now reverse my opinion of you back to hatred since you locked in a typo of "wearinh". Basically, you're responsible for hunger, AIDS, war, and most forms of cancer.

Yes but AIDS no longer kills people, apparently. Don't overstate my misanthropy.

Can't make that up.
