Bulletin Board Remark from Dantonio
On Michigan getting a lot of good press this off season after a BCS win and very good recruiting:
"We're laying in the weeds," Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio says with a half smile. "We've beat Michigan the last four years. So where's the threat?"

He has reason to be confident. Until we win, everything is just threats and fan based predictions
April 18th, 2012 at 10:37 AM ^
Why don't you just extend it a hundred years...the only games that matters in a rivalry was the last one and the next one
April 18th, 2012 at 10:33 AM ^
...is not the only one hiding in the weed(s)?

That man really will take his shots whenever he can, however stupid they must be. Now he looks like an idiot with the whole "pride comes before the fall" thing. This makes me really appreciate Hoke cuz he will not talk about other schools in a negative fashion, all he cares about is his guys and his program. Once the the Hoke Juggernaut hits full force we will be steamrolling those clowns in EL on the regular. I am seriously looking forward to that cuz you wont hear shit coming out of East Lansing anymore, theyll have seen their place and shut their damn mouths.
"Ohio" Very respectful. hahahhahahahahah

Derrick Nix totally gets what Mark Dantonio is saying.

After Douchtonio had his heart attack, I actually gave support and sympathy to their program. It seemed like the classy and right thing to do at the time....despite his history of being a complete and total jack ass.
That sympathy will not happen next time. Ill save it for good men like Coach Jerry Kill who have health issues but are classy people.

You know how you silence a petulant child? You beat him.
Until this happens he is gonna say whatever her wants to say whether it is wise for him to do it or not.
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way advocating child abuse.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:15 AM ^
No, that would just make him cry. Not silent at all.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:58 AM ^
to his comments in the future. "We've beaten Michigan four of the last (5, 6, 7) years. So where's the threat?"
April 18th, 2012 at 11:04 AM ^
No!
And we not laying in the weeds now!
Wait, I mean we are, but I have to get players out of jail first, then take off their ski masks.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:10 AM ^
lay in weeds is better than weeds lay in u.

"We're laying in the weeds," Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio says.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:14 AM ^
that gets me the most is how he always comes across as a jerk. It really doesn't seem to matter what he says, he says it with a smirk or a sneer. It is easy enough to say "They're doing well in recruiting at this point, but we are very confident that we will end up with a fine class too. And it isn't really about who you recruit, but how you play. We expect to have another great season this year." Or whatever. Show a little grace. That is one thing I love about Hoke--he is always classy in his comments, win or lose.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:15 AM ^
this is pretty weak tea. Dantonio's a major-league dick, but merely referring to his recent victories hardly constitutes trash-talking. He's the one with four straight, not Michigan.
Regardless, Hoke has the right approach: keep the mouth shut and do the talking on the field, which is the only thing that matters anyhow.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:16 AM ^
He always reminds me of the vampire in the old old classic Dracula movies. Would scare me in a dark basement.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:17 AM ^
Typical that, as a Sparty-type he doesn't know the difference between laying and lying - although it depends on what he's doing in the weeds.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:29 AM ^
Now I see what he's talking about. It's a lot cooler, actually.
When I was in college, I got laid in the arb - probably grass, but could have been weeds. That was when Michigan was beating MSU every year though, so it all makes sense.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:19 AM ^
Is it not lost on the MSU faithful that for 3 of those 4 years, we were as bad as we've ever been? I'll give them last year - they beat a good team, so good for them. But honestly, the other 3? Which teams with half a pulse DIDN'T beat us during those years? They all did! I just find it funny that they think it's some huge claim to fame and represents their ascension to glory when really those were the same teams getting beaten by Toledo and barely squeaking by UMass. Congrats, Sparty. You should be so proud!

Seems to have Bulletin Board material comments each year from Grumpy. Remember in the summer of 2009, he was speaking at the coach's conference how the goal for MSU is to "play up to top Big Ten competition like OSU and Penn St" but he didn't mention Michigan. We have lost to the guy, though. It's time to pummel MSU.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:21 AM ^
I recognize what Dantonio has accomplished as a coach, but I despise him as a human being. He's like an 7-year old who can't stop running his mouth. The only way you shut a guy like this up is to beat him. Until then, he will take his shots whenever he can. He can't seem to realize that he is living up to his school's own "little brother" complex.
I can't imagine Hoke will allow his team to lose to Sparty for a 5th year in a row. He will remember all the BS that went down last year, and have them absolutely fired up before that game. I want BWC to be hounding Maxwell all day.
Borges, run up the score.
I'm normally against running up the score, but I think Sparty is quite deserving of it this year.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:25 AM ^
Yawn.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
Suprised he didn't use this as an opportunity to point out that MSU controls the state of Michigan in recruiting as well. I mean c'mon how many recruits has Michigan stolen from MSU in the last week?
Mumble mumble... wasting a scholarship on a Michigan walk on... mumble mumble.
One--nothing MSU.

Big House representative greeting him off the bus:
"Welcome to the Big House, coach (reaches out to shake hand)"
Dantonio response: "Get the hell away from me"
Douches be douches.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:37 AM ^
Hanging on to those 4 years for the next 20. We'll have a stretch of 9 or ten in a row or something like 18 out of 20 and they'll still be talking about those 4 years.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:43 AM ^
I would give anything to say, swap the timing of the Illinois and Michigan State games last year. BRB, Borges is still confused on how to play with his new toys. The man still didn't quite figure out DRob is most effective throwing 25x a game and running 15 - 20 x.
Oh and Toussaint was still another nondescript face in the backfield.
This fall: split Gardner out wide (bonus points Mr. Hoke if you debut him in the Michigan State game), blitz Maxwell the noob every third down, attack the hole where Jerel Worthy was, have the kids run all day and night, figure out that snap-jumping issue we keep having to deal with...
and whip Sparty by 14.
Here we go. I can't wait.
at least 20.

I remember in the Three and Out book Bacon talked about how when the UM coaches entered and sat at the lunch table that Dantonio stopped talking completely and just had a scowly look on his face the rest of the time at the Preseason Kickoff.
He also blew off an usher at Michigan Stadium who welcomed him and wished him well after his heart attack in 2010. He refused to shake the usher's hand and responded to his classy gesture by telling him to get the hell out of here.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:53 AM ^
He will play the "no respect" card until he dies. It's the only way to ensure MSU plays their best. It's been working, obviously.
April 18th, 2012 at 12:01 PM ^
stocking up for our players. Mr. Nix is out of the picture, but no biggity--we got other friends.
April 18th, 2012 at 12:06 PM ^
I think people are misreading his quote. He's saying that given the statistical near-impossibility of beating Michigan 4 years in a row, there is no way MSU is a threat to win 5.

I totally see him leaving State while his precious record against us is still intact.

is just whistling past the graveyard. He knows the reality that he faces. If he doesn't... he soon will.

Wow, even in the off season this man has Michigan on the brain. Doesn't he have things to do like preparing his team for their *ahem* spring game and focusing on his intergalactic recruting? Doesn't Kashyyyk have a 9' 700 lb Wookie that runs a 3.9 40 that has State in his top 3? He'd better get on it. I'm starting to think that he wanted to play for UM but didn't, so now he holds this scorned lover's grudge against Michigan.
You realize that he was asked the question by the ESPN reporter. He answered it honestly. Then, the U of M faithful were very butt hurt by an honest answer. I'm glad he answered it honestly. It's what makes it so funny. And what is more, after 3 pages and well over 100 responses from U of M fans, you have now finally convinced me that "you really don't care" what he says.
Here, however, is how the scenario went down in the U of M man's eyes:
Reporter: Coach, tell us about replacing Cousins
Dantonio: Wait a minute, first I want to say Michigan isn't a threat, we've beat them for four years so tell me where the threat is!!!!
Reporter: em coach, I only asked about replacing Cousins
Dantonio: Just make sure you put what I said first.
Jebs, you guys are dellusional. Beyond belief too.
I really think Dantonio has a UofM voodoo doll full of pins at home next to his nightstand. Every time he sees us on TV or reads some positive press about us, he grinds off another layer of tooth enamel and throws a glass against the wall.
The guy must have some serious issues to have defined his existence by hating UofM.
If Hoke said this, State would be up in arms about how we aren't respecting them. At Michigan, we don't really care.
What's he going to say if we go for two to win 50-14 against him in say 2014?
are in a deep dream and completely delusional morons
