OSU offers Wyatt Shalman
January 12th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
...though he is a Blue lean.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
They no nothing & will get pounded in the B1G this year while Wyatt is blue.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:32 PM ^
I guess that's better than knowing nothing.
January 12th, 2012 at 7:23 PM ^
Mario, I see you really did score a "6" on the wonderlic.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
Is it me, or does it seem that Ohio is being extremely LAZY with their recruiting this year, and are basically just looking at who Michigan is targeting, then going after them? It seems like every one of our top targets suddenly are OSU's targets too. Lazy bastards...do your own research.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:15 PM ^
Well didn't Meyer admit to basically doing that exact thing with Saban for D recruits? It's a good strategy.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:19 PM ^
I don't know if Urban came out and admitted that, but he said something along those lines. It was proven more so by him offering players shortly after they got Alabama offers.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
You'd think with one coach focusing only on recruiting while the other one was coaching the team though that he might have gotten his own list going...
January 12th, 2012 at 6:58 PM ^
He actually did say that during the signing day special. I was amazed to hear that. I kind of find it pathetic. Let one team do all the leg work then come in a offer them. I say we send out 25 offers to scrubs around Columbus that love Ohio. That should fill up there class real quick
January 12th, 2012 at 7:02 PM ^
Or ours....
January 12th, 2012 at 11:40 PM ^
If you're going to quote Shane Morris's tweets, at least cite him as a source.
January 13th, 2012 at 12:55 AM ^
thats where that line came from.. I was thinking about it all night and I remembered I read it on twitter. It just felt right to say. Not sure if I really needed to site a tweet when just about every one here thought it at one point or another but I will give credit where credit is due.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
Well it could be that he is copying us, or that we each go after highly rated players that most big time midwestern schools will offer.
January 12th, 2012 at 10:55 PM ^
One of the knocks on him at FL was that he strictly relied on the recruiting services. So he offered all the top guys. Without seeing them or evaluating how they fit into his systems. So while he got many top recruits many did not fit and pan out.
January 12th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
The EXACT same thing could be said for Hoke (and staff) targeting Dantonio's recruits since he joined UM..
January 12th, 2012 at 11:39 PM ^
If Hoke and Co. targeted all of the players MSU recruited, Michigan's class would be ranked in the middle of the B1G. Your point is irrelevant.
Also, there were like 80 offers sent out in a 2 week period immediately following signing day last year. There's no evidence that the staff was just hanging around waiting to see if any other schools offered these players.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
If I was Michigan I would try and go after OSUs highly ranked prospects too
January 12th, 2012 at 6:19 PM ^
Splitting carries with Brionte Dunn you can never have too many 3 yards and a cloud of dust spread backs.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
What position are they wanting him for? i can't imagine him being a RB in the spread

There are some summer 2011 camp one-on-one videos of Shalman at DE. He was utterly unblockable. Incredible first step, the 2012 OTs he was going against were consistently slow with their first reach step, where Shalman would either go around, or do a swim back inside to tackle the 'QB' (tackling dummy).
Shalman has stated his preference as a RB, but I think he would be a great rush end/3-4 OLB...JMHO.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
I dont think hes going after who we offer, its cause were offering the best so is he. Urban is going to be the most hated coach in the b10(if he already isint). And dont think that Shalman is a lock, urban is a slick bastard who knows the recruiting game. He will tell/do anything to recruits to get them to committ....
January 12th, 2012 at 8:09 PM ^
"He will do anything to recruits to get them to committ...."
January 12th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
I hope Wyatt's mom cried again, although this time for the opposite reasons.
January 12th, 2012 at 6:53 PM ^
drop his offer letter from TSIO in the paper shredder.

This. OSU "offers" now mean nothing because everyone with a solid BCS offer or two will get one. It is marketing; many will find out their offer is one of those noncommitable offer things. 180 degree divergence from Tressel's style.
January 12th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
never understood how the schollie offers can be revoked for an academically eligible kid.
January 12th, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
It's basically a "Hey! How's it going? We're interested. Keep us in mind."
Seems to be the way things are done these days, especially in the SEC.
It also keeps you from "offending" some kids who feel they're being disrespected if a school doesn't offer them during their junior year.
January 12th, 2012 at 8:37 PM ^
it basically means, "Hey, you're on our list. You're not at the top of the list, but we'll let you know what happens with the guys we really want and if there's room for you because the guys ahead of you are going elsewhere, we'll actually accept a commitment from you. But for now, we're just engaged to be engaged."
January 12th, 2012 at 7:34 PM ^
I could go for some Dr. McGillicuddys right now.
January 12th, 2012 at 7:22 PM ^
Who cares what Ohio does?
January 12th, 2012 at 10:20 PM ^
Michigan fans.

January 12th, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
RB class in 2013 could be special. I think Shallman will be used like an H-Back here. Hope we get Isaac too. But Edwards could earn an offer as well.
January 12th, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
Well, I don't mind that OSU thinks he's tremendous because I'm more interested in what Ohio thinks of him fergodsakes.
January 12th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
Sorry to hijack this thread, but did anyone hear if Yuri Wright is coming this weekend? /s
January 12th, 2012 at 9:14 PM ^
give the guy a little credit. In his defense, I searched the entire board and couldn't find anything about it. Is he coming or not? /s
