Dayne Crist to Wisconsin?
Word on other message boards (Scout, Rivals, NDNation) is that Dayne Crist is going to transfer to Wisconsin. Not as big as a get for Wisconsin as Wilson was but Crist is probably better than any other QB on that roster after Wilson leaves. Crist has 1 year of elgibility and will be able to transfer and play immediately just as Wilson did. He'd be able to play in ND's bowl game and then transfer in time for spring semester and be able to participate in spring practices.
If Rees decides to transfer too, it'd be pretty bad for ND. The ND depth chart at QB would be Hendrix and.... Not exactly the depth you would want when your QB is scrambling and taking hits as often as Hendrix would.
You have to love Brian Kelly burning bridges.
What does the board think?

Yep, Crist redshirted and ND only allows football players 4 years of undergrad, so he's eligible to transfer and play immediately once he graduates, as long as he enrolls in a grad program that ND doesn't offer.

I'm so confused. I just checked UW's football web site and scanned the roster bios. Wilson is listed as a Communications major. I thought in order for him to transfer and immediately play at UW, he had to enroll as a grad student with a major/program not offered at NC State! I find it difficult to believe NC State doesn't offer a communications graduate degree. I'm missing something here.
November 30th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Wilson's profile is still up on the NC St. web site. He's listed as a communications major. I'm now mega-confused.

It will be nice that the Brooks Bollinger Memorial 8th-year Senior Award will return home to its rightful place in Madtown.
Also, and not apropos of this particular issue, Bielema is a douche.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:34 PM ^
With all of the new double-barrelled names for B1G awards, I think it is now the "Brooks Bollinger-Todd Boeckman 8th-year Senior Award."
November 30th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
might want to throw Junior Hemingway's name on that award.
November 30th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
Not sure how many years Bollinger spent at Wisconsin, but Boeckman both redshirted and grey shirted at OSU, making him a sixth year senior.. Hemingway only took a medical RS so your argument is invalid.
November 30th, 2011 at 2:46 PM ^
so it's not a transfer. I believe he'll have a BBA from ND so any MBA concentration that Wisconsin has that ND does not offer will allow him to play for the Badgers.
November 30th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
Does ND have to release him if he already has his degree? Can he just tell Kelly adios?
November 30th, 2011 at 2:55 PM ^
I thought the NCAA was closing the grad-school loophole, no?
November 30th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
How is it a loophole?
November 30th, 2011 at 3:34 PM ^
I think if the NCAA did in the recently announced proposed changes, it doesn't take effect for a few years.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
I think Crist can just peace out on Kelly because he has his degree. A quick scan of the Russell Wilson situation ought to give you that definitive answer since he went through the exact same thing.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
What happens if all the ND QBs r transfering?
November 30th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
If this continues, Wisconsin is just going to have to recruit one or two sucky backup quarterbacks to play in case the Angry Fifth Year Senior of the Year gets hurt.
Seriously, this isn't a bad plan for the Badgers. They build up the offensive line, get good running backs, and then just advertise that "Hey, if you're a disgruntled senior quarterback, just get your ass to Lincoln, we'll win a bunch of games by handing off the ball, and you'll be a hero." If nothing else, it's a unique approach to college football.
November 30th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
*to Madison
November 30th, 2011 at 3:03 PM ^
Just an FYI the Badgers play in Madison, Wisconsin not Lincoln, Nebraska.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:02 PM ^
Yeah, well, there's a little sandwich shop near Camp Randall called "Lincoln's." It's pretty obscure. You wouldn't know it.
Okay, okay, I screwed up. Geography was never my strong suit. I can't even name all 35 states.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
Nice save.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
It is Mickies Dairy Bar, not Lincoln's.
November 30th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
I walk by this joint every day. Stick-to-your ribs greasy food, huge breakfast platters, and real milkshakes.
As a bonus, your second picture caught a glimpse of the Camp Randall Football Phallis statue on the left side. Nicely done!
November 30th, 2011 at 4:08 PM ^
Ahh yea the fighting Honey Badgers of the university of Wisconsin - Lincoln keep their title hopes alive

A net-gain for Michigan. Rees may be "steadier" than Crist. Ultimately, though, he's Matt McGloin in green. Crist, despite his weird lapses, has been terrific at times -- including last year's Michigan game (until he got knocked out). Granted, last year most QBs looked good against M. But still. The kid's got skills. I suspect Kelly just eroded Crist's confidence. He can start fresh at Wisconsin, where he'll play OSU but not M (unless they meet in Indy).
November 30th, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
I also heard Wisconsin is interested in getting Terrelle Pryor eligible for 2013.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
No they're getting Tate Forcei
November 30th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
False. It's bauserman.
November 30th, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
I hope Crist goes and has a fantastic season. One, because ND fans would be piiiiised. 2 because it would help get rid of the Buckeye high, hopefully.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
ND fans won't be pissed. He was a great guy with a great team attitude. In fact the majority of us wish him well if this is true.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Everett Golson is also on the roster, his offer list was very impressive, and he is the perfect mix of skills for Kelly's spread. Not to mention they're still in the running for Gunner Kiel.
Judging by Golson's offer list, I would say the only thing that kept him as a 3 star recruit would be his size.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Brian Kelly is such jackass. They are going to have a tough year next year, especially if they have another first-year starter. And they lose Te'o and most of their defensive playmakers and RBs.
In the last 10 years, ND coaches have been on the hotseat for 8.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
Because he is a junior...
November 30th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
While I agree that next year is going to be tough, the biggest loss is Floyd. As for our secondary we lose Gary Gray. Yes, that Gary Gray. So its a +1 for ND.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
I would not call it losing Gary Gray. In fact, I am sure most around campus will be there when he drives way.....FOREVER. The problem with ND is that they changed offenses and got away from the Cincy offense which was pretty successful last year in its modifed form. Teo should stay because....he is not all that great.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:35 AM ^
Smith is a 5th year senior, Blanton is a senior, and so is Jamoris Slaughter. As for Gary Gray, he may get lost in coverage, but from what I saw it seemed like he was a solid tackler in run support.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
Dayne Crist to Wisky would be interesting
November 30th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
So when can we say that Kelly is on a hot seat? I mean what are his signature wins through his tenture, I don't recall any.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
I'd call ending a 10 year losing streak in Southern Cal a pretty big win. I don't care who the quarterback was.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
The MSU team that you lost to this year?
November 30th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
Thought Keil was now considering ND. Maybe that's part of the equation, too, for Crist.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
Wow, so Michigan D might face Kiel next year.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
You worried? I'm not unless Michael Floyd somehow comes back.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
just another qb for BWC to smash next year ala Brady Quinn/Branch
November 30th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
November 30th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
Tommy's starting days are over. He won't transfer, but he certainly won't be the starter next year in South Bend.
November 30th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
Random, but does getting 1-year mercenaries who subsequently graduate actually boost Wisconsin's APR score? Or do grad students not count?
November 30th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
i wish jason forcier did this for Michigan a few years ago...
November 30th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
As an ND fan, I'd be happy to see Dayne get another chance. Supposedly he's a terrific person.
November 30th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
to start for Wisconsin, would this be considered the second coming of Crist?
November 30th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
All of the points.
