Columbus Dispatch Cofirms Meyer as Coach
I know, another thread, but this is confirmation apparently.

Commence.

has 85 soldiers and they will have 70 in 3 years.....
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
I doubt he's still there in three years.
BEAT OHIO!
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
I think that you may be correct. If Meyer doesn't want stress, Ohio is the wrong place to coach, particularly if they end up losing a bunch of scholarships.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:15 PM ^
If the Columbus dispatch says it, it must be true.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:29 PM ^
Surprisingly negative comments about Meyer and the "process" from the OSU fans on the article.
I had to look at some of them and make sure that they we not from Michigan fans. They were not.
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:10 PM ^
Two well-placed sources at Ohio State University confirmed for The Dispatch this morning that Urban Meyer will be announced next week as the next head football coach of the Buckeyes. But the sources also said final terms for a deal – such as length of contract and financial remuneration – have not been decided, despite recent reports to the contrary. Also, the sources said that though interim head coach Luke Fickell has not been in the loop, he will be taken care of when or if Meyer accepts the job. In what capacity, the sources weren’t sure.
So they are confirming that he may come???
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
...they're confirming that he will be announced as the coach whether he accepts the job or not.

Michigan-Ohio rival just take to another level
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
I think Urban Meyer is really starting to change the tide on the rivalry. Hell, people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years would I have thought that. Selling game-used jerseys in exchange for tattoos is a good start.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:38 PM ^
Well done, sir. And reading that in a Walken voice to myself makes it that much better.
"I think...Urban...Meyer...isreallystarting to chiiinge...the tide"

Best comment of the year.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
So what they are saying is the new coach at Ohio St is just as big a liar as the old coach at Ohio st. This bodes well for us.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing. Urban just could have said "no comment", but he instead he has to lie or grossly mislead.
November 23rd, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
Come on, there are plenty of things to criticize Urban Meyer for and this isn't one of them. He never closed the door on coaching for OSU. The coach-hiring process makes it impossible for those involved not to lie to the media.
If anything, reading between the lines of his comments, made it obvious that he was open to taking the job.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
Thanks Columbus Dispatch.
Now get to work confrming D-Day, Truman's election, and Nixon's resignation.
And while you're at it, figure out what that horrid smell is that sits over Columbus...
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
I live in Columbus these days (ugh), and I find that the smell I most often find wafting over my little corner of I-270 is actually the scent of sausage.
It's totally weird, but ... ultimately, not really that bad, y'know?
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
I associate Columbus with either the delicious smell of baking Wonder bread or the hard to identify odor that accompanies the brewing of Budweiser. I think that most who live in this neck of the woods will agree.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:42 PM ^
Agreed. I'm happy they scooped by folks who are "just" bloggers...idjits...
Duh - correcting my idjit grammar - 'got scooped'...
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
I was hoping that The Ohio University was going to get Dantonio. I don't think I could have ever stopped laughing.....

Over/under on the times ESPN shows him during the Ohio / Duke game? Over/under on how long his halftime speech is?
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:32 PM ^
Unfortunately, the ABC talking heads will also use up half the Michigan-Ohio State game talking about this.
November 23rd, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
life during wartime and crosseyed and painless. Fine by me. Les Miles is the only option that would seriously worry me at this point. Balls of Steel vs. Hoke-a-mania would be tantalizing. Long live the mekons.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
He couldn't spend time with them for longer than a year.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
There were wild internet rumors about him having an affair with a grad assistant when he was at Florida and that his wife was going to divorce him if he didn't quit.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
She's now had him at home for a year--maybe she's reconsidered?
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
If our coach is a giant hypocrite, he will be very successful.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:45 PM ^
We will see Meyer wearing today
November 23rd, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
ESPN put out quite a few stories about our own 2 recent coaching searches and during them both they were talking exclusively out of their asses the entire time and had no clue what was going on. Meyer may or may not have been in talks with TSIO but after seeing this twice from an agency as credible as ESPN I give very little weight to these rumors being true insight from some guy at Scout, a radio station, and the Columbus Dispatch. They thrive on stuff like this, it's how they make money.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
Better start working on defending that Nebraska triple-option, 'cause Urban was quite enthralled.
November 23rd, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
turns it up to 11 and adds a jump pass at the end of the triple-option play as well....
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
When they confirm it.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
i think the situation right now is, Meyer has verbal commited to the OSU but the signing date is a week from now.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:46 PM ^
I believe this is a refence to a misspelling.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
Funny how its "confirmed" he will be announced as the new ohio coach next week but Fickle is out of the loop and will be taken care of " when or if" Urban takes the job. Yeah that sounds like a sure thing to me...

Meyer in. Smith out within 6 - 9 months. Contact with Meyer being done by Trustees and not by Smith.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:50 PM ^
regardless of who's contacting him. Undermining Fickle and adding a distraction for The Game in the hopes that they lose - and are thus justified in finding a top notch coach to replace him. Sneaky, but makes sense.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
Seriously?!? Cleveland has it's own dedicated site (although not as big as the Chicago, LA, Dallas ones) but Detroit doesn't?
November 23rd, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
You'll notice that the cities that have dedicated ESPN sites are the cities that don't have dedicated Fox Sports Channels. Boston - no FSBoston, NESN. LA - no FSLA, Prime Ticket. NY - no FSNY, SNY and YES. Chicago - no FSChicago, Comcast Sports Net Chicago, etc. Cleveland also doesn't have a FS affiliate, they have the independent STO (Sports Time Ohio).
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
is not unsettling to the current OSU coaching staff at all. I'm sure they are 100% focused on preparing for Michigan. /s
This is good for Michigan in the short run (a distraction for this week).
What about the long run? As John Maynard Keynes said, "In the long run we are all dead." This week is the only thing that matters right now, and winning this week could very well have a positive impact on our performance in future years.

Urban Renewal
Urban Decay
subUrbanites (his assistant coaches)
Urban's Outfitters (the supply closet or tattoo parlor, natch)
use of any of these phrases will cost you, a la Pat Riley's "thr33p34t"
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:32 PM ^
When he sits down with his coaches to map out the game strategy, is that called Urban Planning?
November 23rd, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
Hopefully we will see some Urban Decay in the tOSU program.
November 23rd, 2011 at 1:03 PM ^
When he can't beat Michigan, and Ohio stops believing in him, and he finds himself on the proverbial hot seat, is that called the Urban Heat Island Effect???
November 23rd, 2011 at 1:04 PM ^
When he finds out the bowl ban and scholarhip reductions are way higher than what's already been self imposed and runs for the hills, is that called Urban Sprawl?
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
OK, at this point it's most likely true. This isn't Deadspin; it's a major newspaper. We should stop with the denials and rationalizations ("He'll be gone in three years"). We'll probably have to deal with him for the next decade. But he'll have to deal with us, too.
