Gee says AD Smith is "safe"
Short blurb in the DetNews (re-run from the AP newswire). This just may be the NCAA's "Exhibit A" on why Gordon Gee just doesn't get it.

They both said Tressel was "safe" last week, too.
Did he say "I just hope he doesn't dismiss me" in a whiny weasel voice also?
Yeah becaues Gee's job is in perfect security.
Now that Tressel is no longer around to fire him.
Not sure if Smith should be happy about that. Who's to say Gee is safe...
Gordon Gee should be dismissed for his ridiculous bowties alone.
Don't diss the bow tie.
Don't hate son
Because bow ties are cool.
Wait, does having made a Doctor Who reference suddenly make me uncool? Or maybe a cool sci-fi nerd? What am I talking about - this is MGoBlog - Doctor Who is TOTALLY cool here. And fezes are cool, too.
Doctor Who=Best show on Television
David Tennant is my favorite new Doctor (possibly my favorite ever - he's "FANTASTIC!"), but Matt Smith has a certain je ne sais quois about him, also. He's a pretty engaging fellow. Then again, it's not as if Christopher Eccleston was a bad Doctor. In fact, I've liked all three of the new Doctors. They're all good.
That must be the kiss of death, he's gonna be the sacrificial lamb for the NCAA come august
yer OUT. See ya Mr. Smith. I think Gee will need to go as well. This is now a circus with only clowns and seals.
Thanks DB and MSC for doing these jobs well. Hoke is unconscious.
It would be kinda fun to see if people think that Gee or Smith is going to last longer, or possibly that both get the axe in a simultaneous bloodletting. He's no Gee-Whiz, that's for sure. I just hope he doesn't dismiss me from this board . . .
but that comment HAD TO be downvoted for the awful gee pun
Am I the only one picturing Butch and Sundance at the edge of the cliff?
Gee: OK, then listen; let's not get caught.
Smith: What're you talkin' about?
Gee: Let's keep goin'!
Smith: What d'you mean?
Gee: ...Go.
Smith: You sure?
Smith: Yeah.
"Mr. Gee? For 3 years your highest profile athlete pulled into the parking lot at the Woody Hayes Football complex in no less than 8 different new automobiles...... did ANYONE every notice or bother to inquire about those cars?"
"That is a legitimate question."
(awkward silence)
"A follow up question Mr. Gee, if you will? Did anyone at any time ask any of the players how they were able to afford the intricate tattoo artwork that appeared on their arms, legs, torsos, and necks over the past 8 years?"
"That, too, is a legitmate question."
.
.
"Uh. Ok. One last question please, sir? Do you think there are grounds for dismissing your athletic director, Gene Smith"
"HALOL. That, my firend, is NOT a legitimate question. Silly reporters."
(shakes his head as he walks away from the podium) "Dismiss Gene Smith!?!?! Jesus, next you'll probably ask is if I should fire the most successful coach Ohio State has had since the great Woody Hayes."
"Don't you people have better things to report on?"
Straight off his wikipedia ...
They both won't be there when all is said and done
gordon gee does his job and fires people when they deserve to be fired- not sit back and cower in fear, thinking "I hope he doesn't fire me"
just like when his wife got caught smoking weed in the president's office when Gee was the president of Vanderbilt?
As soon as the hammer gets dropped the trustees are going to drop Gee and Smith ASAP.
This is actually another symptom of a lack of institutional control. If the administration cannot handle discipline issues of their staff/students, why should the coaches? Seriously, this is not just the Tat5 investigation, this has been going on since Clarett, and has included multiple investigations, and this still was not turned up? Do they ever investigate the claims that they are self-reporting? Obviously the Board has to have a cause to fire these men, perhaps they are waiting for evidence to develop to avoid buyouts, but at the minimum they should be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the NCAA investigation.
Now all Gene Smith needs is to have Vito Corleone hand him an orange and he's all set.
Well I guess we can stick a fork in Smith, then.
Soon he'll sleep with the fish or at the un-enployment office.
has a way bigger spine than OSU's
"vote of confidence." Otherwise known as, make sure you have your personals collected so security can exit you from the building in one swift motion.
If the NCAA doesn't come down with at least a 3-yr post-season ban and 10 schollies/yr and 5 yrs probation, they are a schill for the large profile $$$ programs.
If the university doesn't fire Gee and Smith and completely gut the compliance dept and entire football staff, they are making the singular statement, "the football program is bigger than the university."
This will end as either the most entertaining bust in major college sports or, be the biggest sham ever.
He is there for his ability to pull in major cash donors, and they are going through their biggest funding drive elsewhere. Maybe they will tell him to stfu about the scandal, let the NCAA take their course, deny & comply, and concentrate on raking in the dough...which is why he is there in any case.
Smith, however, is toast.
Gee to Smith: Gene you are safe. Have you seen the new countdown clock we have installed in your office?
Smith: Yes I have. Thanks Gordo. Just one question..... what happens in 73 days?
Gee: Well glad you asked. That's when your safety net disolves. Like I said you are safe, I just didn't mention how long you were safe. Thanks again for doing such a fine job. Now I just hope Tress doesn't come back and dismiss me.
Smith: Thanks Gordo you sure are a POS. Oh and by the way, I did hear that Tress was supposed to be back in town in August.
If they have any real sense at all they will do a clean sweep and remove anyone in the program that had any knowledge of wrong-doing. That would at least show the NCAA that they are doing what they have to do to right the ship. Notice if you will I said "if they have any real sense".
After the sister's of the poor comment and hoping coach doesn't dismiss him, within a half-year of one another, he has made Ohio State a laughing stock nationally. I would say that his job should be on the line now. Obviously this began with a previous administration, but why didn't he suspect/demand an investigation upon his return in 2007? It should have been easy then as he was not connected to it in any way, John Cooper's comments make it clear that under his first run at President Compliance was everywhere on campus.
I have always said, that ever since that 11 year run under Cooper, Buckeye Nation has never been the same. They sold Michigan gear on High Street acrossed the street from campus in the early '90s, many of their national fans went into hibernation. I live in Florida, and up until about 7 years ago, you NEVER saw Buckeye gear (and my entire family are Buckeye graduates/fans). Since the National Championship, they are EVERYWHERE. Once they experience another bad spell, most will go away once again and root for the FSUs of the world. Right now they truly believe they are invincible, even without Tressel.
Why did Gee return to Columbus? It seems odd that he'd go from OSU to Vandy back to OSU. Was he promoted to his level of incompetence?
Unrelated, but Khadafi says he will retain his entire cabinet through the next fair and open elections.
They love that Orville Redenbacher asshat too.

This guy has a lot, I mean >$1.5 million per year to lose as a result of this scandal. His one goal is to improve OSU athletics, while making sure the school is average academically.
Sad, really.Didnt USC fire their AD after the Bush episode? I cannot forsee how a scandal of this magnitude will allow Smith to keep his job.
