OT: Best Drunk Food For All 68 March Madness Schools

30. Michigan: Hippie Hash
Definitely agree with this choice. Late night awesome-on-a-plate and great hangover food.
... is a win in my eyes. Great, great, grea late night drunk and morning after drunkenness spot.
but I always considered myself more of a "Mark's Midtown" kind of guy.
I'll definitely eat Fleetwood at night after drinking. But if the sun is out, I'm going to either Benny's or Angelo's for breakfast.

I'll take the Broken Egg and Afternoon Delight over Angelo's any day of the week.
Totally disagree on this. Hippie Hash is the last thing I'm ordering at Fleetwood while drunk. However, I can't think of too many other things unique to Ann Arbor that exist after 2am.
Eastern Flame and Insomnia Cookies are both unique to A2 and pretty damn good drunk food late at night.
Eastern Flame is the most atrocious thing I've ever eaten. Gotten it twice and had food poisoning both times. It tastes pretty generic too.
Sorry to hear, guess I got lucky the few times I've been there.
I can tell you that Insomnia Cookies is most definitely not unique to AA, and in fact was at State (among many other locations) before coming to AA.
Yeah, post 2 AM you have backroom pizza, pizza house, cottage inn, BTB, jimmy johns, quickie burger, etc. Nothing really as original as Hippie Hash in the late hours, but I still don't see it as a major drunk destination for students unless they live off campus.
Yeah, I agree with this assessment. I think mostly of the South U places and may be NYPD or Quickie. I don't think of a place FOR STUDENT DRUNK FOOD (this being the key part, since this is related to the schools) that is PASSED Main Street as a destination for students late night, unless they've been on Main Street to begin with. I feel like most people hang out on South U though, but I might be South U-centric.
I mean, BU is third because of some food truck...but you could pick any place around their campus which literally covers a long stretch of Boston. Hell, you could pick any drunk food place in the city near a bar that students hangout at. I feel like the criteria is pretty ambiguous.
Also, I am getting both hungry and sick looking at these pictures.
I agree. Each population of campus seems to have it's own territory in ann arbor. Grad students tend to hang out around main St by 8 ball and alley bar, undergrads tend to have the south u corridor, and townies tend to hang out at cubs ac.

I've got to say, I think the grad students have it right. I'd much rather go to Bab's/The 8-Ball/The Blind Pig/Alley Bar/Heidelberg/Circus than any of the South U joints.
Really? Ann Arbor has cliqued up like that for a reason. South U bars are appealing to undergrads because they are dives with cheap booze. Seriously, I have never been able to get as drunk for under $10 than the mason jars at Charley's. Rick's is a shining display of undergrad frat culture.
When I was an undergrad, I would gripe at any beer that cost over $5. I wanted my pitchers for less than $10.
Now as a young professional, the Main St. and downtown bars are much more appealing to me. I don't want to be surrounded by undergrads, mostly underage, trying to get as drunk as they can before last call.
Usually willing to overlook common errors, but when you go all caps and drop PASSED when really it ought to be PAST it's hard not to point out.
Just pointing, not blaming.

No, I get all uppedy over common errors when other people make them, I should get my comeuppance when I make an error, especially like that.

I hate to do this, but given the topic...I think you were looking for "uppity".
That said, in terms of spelling annoyances, none of this approaches my disdain for the many permutations of "definitely".
No offense to Zingerman's, but I am really happy that they didn't get picked. I get kind of sick of seeing every reference to Ann Arbor food being Zingerman's.
That said, Yaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy Fleetwood!
I wouldn't consider Zingermans "drunk" food.
True that. Somehow I missed the "drunk" part.
March 31st, 2011 at 12:36 AM ^
...are you drunk?
If only...
March 31st, 2011 at 12:17 PM ^
It is drunk food in that when you're drunk you'll happily pay 18 dollars for a sandwich.
If you look at all the other schools' entries, they're all weird, wacky, out-of-this-world concoctions (at least if you want to get a good "ranking"). So, I support this choice, although backroom pizza, Charley's pepperoni sticks, or Mr Spots might be more popular.
And damn, I'm hungry after looking at that list!
They gave MSU Menna's? Steps away from handing out McDonalds.
I'm a pretty big fan of Menna's personally.
Oh no I meant as far as how many locations it has. Seems like for the others they had unique selections.
March 30th, 2011 at 10:16 PM ^
If there was a Mennas in Ann Arbor, I'd eat it probably once a week.
Kind of shows how sucky the options are at MSU. Mennas Joint also exists at WMU and CMU. Hell, I would probably say WMU has better food options than MSU.

I won't disagree. Bells Greek Pizza was the choice for people who wanted to do tasty body destruction after the bars closed. Pizza so greasy that it would melt through the dollar store paper plates they'd serve it on in less then a minute. You got it by the slice for 79 cents back in the day. http://thebellspizza.com/ I think they messed this choice up.
East Lansing is fine, but it is an outpost with very limited choices in most categories like this.
Yeah although I fully condone the usage of the Fleetwood Diner, BTB is the classic on campus drunk food in AA.
BTB exists elsewhere too, which is probably why it doesn't count for this list.
But it's from Ann Arbor, and therefore should.
Blimpy Burger would make the top 10 on the list easily it were open that late.
If only...
isn't as good as it used to be. Panchero's and Chipolte is better IMO.
I was a student when it opened. I sacrificed goats to the God of Drunk Food in honor of that place.
BTB is still awesome, and while I certainly appreciate places like Chipotle and Tios for a good burrito, I still consider BTB to be the best around... in fact, just had it the other night!
I was a student when BTB opened too, I think I was a sophomore, so was it like 2004? Anyway, I always liked it because it was local, but as for the best burrito, I always preferred Panchero's.
Still, Jimmy John's might be what I miss from campus the most, living somewhere that doesn't have any.
Disagree. Each has it's strengths. Chipotle has the beat meats, pancheros has the best tortillas, and btb has the sauce. Tios is just terrible.
Put em all together and you get Qdoba.
March 30th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
Now THERE'S great drunk food. Cheap, and absorbs all that alcohol.
March 31st, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
Chipotle is great but their tortillas suck. On the other hand Pancheros tortillas are amazing but their meat is awful quality (other than the carnitas). Life is fun, but it's hard.
Unique? Maybe not. Absolutely ESSENTIAL on the walk home at 2 in the morning from South U? Absolutely.
Beyond that, my vote for "shit you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole sober but becomes worth its weight in gold once your BAC breaks 0.12%" goes to Backroom Pizza, with an honorable mention to Bells.
BTB is easily the best drunk food in Ann Arbor. Not only is it delicious but it is super fun to throw the but end of your burrito at parked cars! Try it next time you're stumbling around state street at 3:00 am, I dare you!
March 30th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
but I have to agree that BTB has DEFINATELY slid downhill from its prime (circa 2005-2007). The last couple times I have gone back the food has either been cold or sucked. I have completely replaced BTB with Bell's Pizza as my late night drunk food.
Not a good idea
Don't get me wrong. There's fantastic late night food in Toledo. Great individual stuff. But RIGHT next to the majority of the dorms on campus there was a Taco Bell. Drunk at 2AM? You were staggering over for a bean burrito.
If you could find somebody sober to drive you though, there were better options.
Man, this thread makes me hungry.
and a UT grad, but Im not sure there are that many options late night, in town. Cottage Inn, Steak-n-shake, Waffle House...all pretty generic. I cant think of many places close to campus that are open late with good drunk food. Wish we got the Paninis they talked about...where on earth did you find this "fantastic late night food" at UT? Im jealous.
You've gotta have a sober friend that can drive. Not close enough to walk your drunk rear end to.
