|1 week 1 day ago||Hilliard is the bigger miss||
He looks to be the better athlete and still has a lot of upside. Plus, it would have been nice to poach another top recruit from Ohio.
Our LB and DT stables are quite full of talent so not critical misses.
|2 weeks 8 hours ago||Similar set of data on DL||
Ok, it's an Andy Staples article and he likes to troll but this article further highlights the difference in DL talent.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Leadership?||
Thanks for the chart. Beyond playing talent, the list also highlights the void of upperclassmen with leadership roles and the ability to inspire confidence. The erratic performances last year and meltdowns at key moments reflect an "immature" team - the real meme should be the disparity in leadership moxie between MSU/OSU and UM.
The 2010 and 2011 classes boil down to a handful of guys - Gardner, Ryan, Countess, Morgan, Taylor, Clark - in key roles. Very hard to tell if they're leaders, but I don't see the behavioral traits of leadership in the group based on public info. Gardner supposedly needs to take the next step. I think Ryan's move to MIKE is as much about giving him a better position for on field leadership as playmaking.
I think The PATTERN in recruiting and the arrival of Jabrill are 2 clear reasons for optimism going forward. Woodson himself said UM needed some guys like Jabrill with swagger - that's an indirect way of saying UM lacks leadership moxie.
|3 weeks 8 hours ago||Great news||
Obviously a talented guy and seems like a good fit. Hopefully the commitment is solid this time so the coaches can focus on the few remaining spots. 2015 class is outstanding so far.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||ND was apparently the dream school||
When they offered, he had to reconsider. When Garrett verbaled, he really reconsidered. Wonder if Kelly had to pinky swear that he wouldn't recruit any more DBs?
Meh, best of luck to him.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Guess: 21 is not assigned and||
Raymon gets 11. Someone in the WR core needs to step up this whole season to get 21 next.
Brady seems partial to Raymon for his competitiveness.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Nice addition||
Seems like a good kid and he clearly has talent. Congrats to him and the staff.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||The charts certainly highlight the||
trend that many recruits cite ("play against the best in the SEC") and SEC coaches probably emphasize during recruiting. Why is the SEC winning NCs? They have better players and more programs 100% committed to winning (coaches salaries, oversigning, etc).
It would be interesting to see if the NFL talent is concentrated on a few teams like Bama and LSU and the bottom 2/3rds of teams in B1G and SEC are fairly comparable.
It also would be interesting to see if the B1G decline is driven by the decline of UM and PSU since 2008 while the rest of the conf is fairly steady.
Thanks to LSAClassof2000 for compiling some basic but interesting data.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||Mods, I believe this||
defines trolling. Your powers await.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Good for him||
His skills and confidence should grow as he camps with other top QBs, especially with his smarts and competitiveness. He'll gain a lot more than a kid who relies on a big arm.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||My point was the opposite of||
gloom, but apparently stated poorly. UM will return to top tier on the field because the standards are that high. Recruiting won't be "allowed" to dip.
Everyone else is gloomy about recruiting, but our recent recruiting is fine and the 2015 class will be solid. It will only decline if the team has a poor season, but DB and BH will make adjustments if that's the case (e.g. Borges). Those two know UM needs top tier football and recruiting is the lifeblood.
The urgency exists this fall because they won't allow UM to fall behind on talent. We're just now getting a deep and mature team after 3 yrs of strong recruiting.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Urban is a helluva salesman||
And it's unfortunate that Ann Arbor can't host the NFTC given Adidas.
Watching the UM-Minn 2003 Classic this weekend just served notice of the great talent on former teams when B1G championships were the norm. While our youth matures, we need a very strong 2015 group to keep the roster stocked.
A rebound this year actually gives the staff a strong message before NSD in 2015 and into 2016.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Well, either this gets||
corrected on the field (and recruiting follows suit) or the AD has to correct things within the staff.
For all the issues cited with DB's approach, he doesn't keep coaches who've let their programs slide.
There has to be high urgency this fall with everyone.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||The SEC will just allow the practice||
I think Saban going to California or Texas or Ohio would be far more advantageous than the risk of B!G coaches visiting the South. Talent hotbeds like FL and GA are already contested by the entire SEC and ACC.
Selling a kid on Bama (SEC football, NFL, weather) from outside the SEC footprint would be easier than Franklin snaking a kid to play in Happy Valley.
The more free-for-all the recruiting becomes, the more the SEC will gain. IMHO.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Definitely a GA||
He's following 217 - doubt GMatt could get there by himself.
Nice to have 970 followers after 1 tweet.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Best of luck to him||
We seemed over recruited at CB with 2 in such a small class and a roster full of CBs. Perhaps GMatt wants extra CBs to deal with 3-4 receiver sets and Hoke wants more speed for Special Teams.
Nice to have him in the class, but we clearly need a few other positions bolstered more.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Too bad but deserved||
FSU made just enough plays and UM just botched way too many opportunities.
That game will make the offseason tough on the team and coaches. Solid season and a short, good run to reach this point.
Hopefully a little better next year to make it a great season.
|7 weeks 8 hours ago||Easy to pick Over||
8 should be the minimum with 9 very possible and 10 thinly possible.
8.5 would be a better line.
|7 weeks 8 hours ago||Plus MSU has only||
1 meaningful road game, which is Oregon, while UM and OSU play at EL.
It's conceivable that all three have the same team capability entering 2014 and the schedule alone decides with MSU 2x at home, OSU 1x at home and UM 0X in that mix.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||The last quote is great||
He seems like a solid kid and a thumper at LB. Hope he wins lots of playing time in a couple of years at MIKE.
Congrats to him and the staff.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||Congrats to Darrin||
He's worked hard for a slot at UM and he can now focus on getting ready for playing in the middle. It's grown man football at MIKE.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||Yes, Yes and YES||
The last paragraph cannot be over stated. JP is a badly needed playmaker for the D and special teams - if the other team gives him an opportunity it will cost them points. More importantly, JP will bring a competitive swagger to this squad and he'll get a lot of other guys to display their swagger.
The bowl game exposed the team's fragile mental state. They had no fire. They need JP or someone to act as the emotional leader.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Any chance he moves to TE/Y||
if there isn't a good fit on D?
He has great athleticism, good height, good hand-eye and a little bit of shake in the open field. Not quite as tall and certainly not as heavy, but Nuss can probably find a way to get him in favorable passing matchups while Butt fills the every down role.
Good, rangy athletes are a nice addition to any roster - excited for his potential.
|10 weeks 3 days ago||Thankful McGary took preemptive||
action and announced his suspension. Wouldn't want UM to get associated with this motley bunch.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Congrats to Tyree||
He committed early and he's obviously pushing to improve.
Looking forward to him in the winged helmet.
|13 weeks 5 days ago||Greg usually seems reasonable||
But he's on crack if that wasn't a flagrant or excessive foul on Johnson.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||I could see him||
grabbing some minutes as a true frosh if GRob departs. He can't hold up for long stretches or in a rough B1G game, but he could create matchup issues at the 4 or Beilein could protect him in the 1-3-1 for a while.
Seems like incredibly high ceiling based on the very limited film.
|14 weeks 4 days ago||Proud of the guys and UM program||
Great season with a B1G championship and a group of guys that represented UM with effort, smarts, skill and class.
Just got beat by a very talented team on a role. Instant classic and absolutely the only way these guys would allow UM to get eliminated from the tourney.
Thank you to the whole program and JMo for showing senior leadership. What a great ride for 5 months.
|14 weeks 4 days ago||Great season||
B1G champions by 3 games, Elite 8 and just nipped by a last-second jumper in an instant classic. Just not enough size & depth to deal with Kentucky's jr NBA team.
Great effort, smart, highly skilled, well coached and 100% sportsmanship. Outstanding group of guys who gave us a thrilling season.
|14 weeks 4 days ago||If UM can play with||
the right focus to stay loose and aggressive like these early moments, UK will get tight. Here we go.
