DL Coach Greg Scruggs Resigns
Greg Scruggs has resigned, effective immediately.
Bummer, but at least it didn't drag out.

Welp... So much for that.

"Resigns"... LOL.
Moore is too new to save him, not that he should. An established coach could try, but three incidents is too much of a pattern to overcome.
We don't know if he truly resigned or not. For all we know Moore told him he needed to get alcohol counseling as a part of keeping his job and he refused. No telling what sort idiocy alcoholics will do,

Good chance we dodged a bullet here. It sounds like he has a problem and needs help. Hope he gets it.
Unfortunate for him but great for the program that they show a zero-tolerance policy. Put the fear of God into our young student-athletes. One bad mistake / error in judgment can cost you your position on the team, your scholarship, and your NIL bag that is still to be paid out, and could end up costing you a lucrative career in the pros.
Choose wisely, young men.
The bigger concern to me is him not being prepped for this, and that the AA police will nail you. He could have been warned and scoffed at it... Now it's a scramble to get a new guy. What about Osborn?
I mean - Old School, is your implication that someone should have said to Scruggs upon his arrival in Ann Arbor "Now I know you like to pound back a few & hit the road for a little drive, but word to the wise, A2 is no Madison! They don't play here!"
Something like that?
Rather, that we have zero tolerance, and not to get cute thinking can make it home, as the AA police are quite vigilant. And to take Uber or walk, period.
Username checks out.
It wasn't really one bad mistake though, he had done this now three times in his life. And those are only the times he was caught, he might of very well done it more times and just not of gotten caught.
Good point. I guess from a Michigan Football player perspective, they see this coach get hired, he's got a great gig coaching D Line at UM, he's got Graham and Grant, gifts from God above to make him look like a great coach and in one night it's all gone. As you say, his priors probably removed any consideration for leniency, and now he's unemployed.
Observe and learn young men.
Three times? Yeah, that's a pattern.
Where'd you hear this? The three times?

If we had zero tolerance he never would've gotten hired.
Thankfully we have analysts to fill the gap in the short term considering we are in spring ball. This would have hurt worse back when we did not have this extra staff.

Someone get Brady Hoke on the phone
March 21st, 2024 at 11:42 AM ^
I'd love that hire

Would our D line clap the other team in to submission?
March 21st, 2024 at 12:17 PM ^
Let's ask the '97 DL
No headset and clapping jokery aside, if there was anything Hoke excelled at, it was developing D line talent. In that capacity he would be a great hire, and it would be tremendous to see coach back on the sideline in maize and blue again.
And he was / is a good recruiter too.
A great recruiter.
Wouldn't be the worst idea. If there was anything Brady Hoke knew how to coach, its DL. We all know he can recruit, and he loved Michigan. Obviously those sentiments may have changed since....you know...being fired by them. But I wouldn't be upset if Michigan gave him a call.
He's already walking towards Ann Arbor!

This comment reminded me the endearing side of Hoke. He truly wanted to be here and it showed.
March 21st, 2024 at 11:57 AM ^
And you don't have to worry about him getting a DUI on his walk to Ann Arbor.
Damn it!
Although my bit of hilarity is above Hillbilly's in the timeline, apparently he posted his a mere, oh... 4-5 hours before me!
Nice one!

Though an insanely long shot at best, Hoke would be an insane get. Awesome recruiter, great eye for future DL talent (Wormley, Hurst, Frank Clark, Taco, Wino), and an overall great guy who would likely stay on as long as they let him.
Yeah it's actually a great idea. Brady wasn't cut out to be an HC but he was an awesome DL coach.
Make him DL coach and co-DC.
Anyone know of any good DL coaches at slohio we can poach?
I am going to assume you are all joking. Better than the alternative.
Not a joke. The only reason not to is that he was the head coach here before, so one might wonder about him being in a position of less authority. But the guy is 65 years old. I work with several contractors who used to be managers. They retired, found out they liked having something to do during the day and came back to work. Yeah, they lost their cushy office and title, but they leave the office at 5 PM with a smile on their face knowing that someone else is in charge now that gets to worry about all the 💩.
He would WALK to AA...
Bring Brady back!
Who's OSU's D-line coach?
Agree this might be a great hire if Brady is interested and willing to unretire.

Who is the next DL coach?
March 21st, 2024 at 11:47 AM ^
how about the guy we just hired who played DL for the ravens, now a defensive analyst of some sort?
March 21st, 2024 at 12:06 PM ^
Pernell Mcphee is exciting, but this would be his first coaching gig. Not sure he has the credibility yet....
March 21st, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
Yeah, but I feel like being an experienced player at a position and then going on to coach that position isn't that big of a jump. It really comes down to whether or not you can be a teacher, since you obviously have the knowledge.
March 21st, 2024 at 12:55 PM ^
You say this as we just fired our basketball coach who was an All American here and an NBA all star.
Who also had a reputation as being a good NBA assistant coach focusing on big men. No one is suggesting McPhee be the head coach, or even defensive coordinator.
I don’t know that I’d equate being a position coach with being a head coach
March 21st, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
I'm now wondering if the word cred is short for credentials, credibility, or credit...
March 21st, 2024 at 12:45 PM ^
I see your concern, but against that I would say that anybody has played football that long has sat through more position group film sessions than you can imagine. Thousands of hours. Also, in the pros more than any other place it’s not just your athleticism, but also your intellect and competitiveness. I’m guessing he is plenty, smart and driven, not just a great athlete..
No, he wouldn't have the incredibility yet. His play on a diffuse system has been demonstrated. Desire and hunger to prove oneself, if present, bode well. Lions approach to the draft...get team captains. I hold out hope that Mike is a Lion. He and Brian Branch would give them two more opportunistic coaches.
March 21st, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
I like this if an experienced analyst is added to the staff.
i'm pretty sure there are a lot of quality and experienced guys out there that would love to coach this DL. no need hiring a guy with no coaching experience.
Spring practice is his job interview.
