I dream of the day the NFL hands out stiffer punishments for hitting a woman than smoking pot

I don't have a problem with Frank getting drafted. I hope he's learned from this horrible situation and never has any run-ins with the law again. But for Seattle to say they completed an extensive investigation and learned everything they could is a lie. They knew that gathering all the facts must include hearing from the witnesses and the victim. The NFL can say how much they disapprove domestic violence and run as many ads and campaigns against domestic violence as they want; however, the facts surrounding Seattle's "in-depth" investigation just show that the league and its teams aren't nearly as serious on domestic violence issues as they should be.

If Harbaugh was using the time to let Singletary audition, while also save any chance of pulling together a class, I could see him not being content with missing out on guys like Chris Clark or Roquan Smith. If Harbaugh really does demand excellence, maybe he looked back on his recruiting coordinator and thought things could've been handled differently.

|20 weeks 6 days ago||Jaylen Brown||
Caris has been great for Michigan, and he's outperformed pretty much every expectation we had for him when he committed. But he will be a senior who has struggled with injuries over the last year, and he also struggled a little bit being the number 1 option last season, shooting only 42%. I hope he can go pro and be drafted in the first round still and have a long career in the NBA. That being said, I would rather take Brown and really see what Beilein could do with a player of his caliber. I think another positive of getting Brown is for the future of recruiting. If Belein can land the top recruit in a draft class, I think future top recruits will notice that and, depending on Brown's success, will follow suit in future years.
|20 weeks 6 days ago||No||
Absolutely no. It sounds like a very nice jesture, but no kid is going to give up the scholarship he earned and pick up the tab on over $41,000 tuition per semester. Maybe in the world you're living in that might be a possibility, but not this one.
|20 weeks 6 days ago||He has said that he's going||
He has said that he's going to look at who goes pro on the teams he's deciding between. But even if Caris stays, and the whole scholarship situation is handled, wouldn't Brown have the talent to snag a starting spot anyway? With Walton at 1, and Caris at 2, wouldn't Brown just take either the 3-4 and Irvin would take the other spot? I understand that if Caris leaves, Brown would have a much greater opportunity to be the go-to guy, but even if Levert stays I'd have to imagine he would definitely have a starting spot anyway.
|20 weeks 6 days ago||Worst/Best Case||
Worst case, Caris jumps to the NBA and we don't get Jalen Brown- I think that would put us out of the top 25, but I'd still be confident Belein will have this team in the tournament. Best Case, Caris stays, we do some OSU-type scholarship juggling and we get Jalen Brown too, and I think having a starting 5 of Walton-Levert-Irvin-Brown-Doyle is a very dangerous group, with Dawkins, Spike, Robinson and MAAR as solid contributors off the bench. If the latter happens, watch out. This team will be very deep and dangerous. Even with only one of Levert/Brown I think this team is definitely worthy of its #16 ranking, with the potential for another patented young Belein squad to grow throughout the year and make some noise in next year's NCAA tournament.
|20 weeks 6 days ago||It's a safe bet that either||
It's a safe bet that either Weber or one of these 3 RBs end up leaving the program for "medical reasons" in the next 3-4 years. Gotta open up scholarships somehow!
|21 weeks 16 hours ago||According to Rivals rankings...||
We do have some elite talent on our roster.
Derrick Green '13- #1 RB/ #8 overall
Ty Isaac '13- #4 RB/ #27 overall
Jake Butt '13- #5 TE
Shane Morris '13- #4 QB
Drake Harris '14- Was a top 5 WR before injuring his hamstring senior year
Brian Cole '15- #4 Athlete
I know I know, recruiting rankings aren't always accurate. But maybe it was Hoke & Co. failing to develop the talent they recruited. These guys are still young. Let's not write them off as busts just yet and let's see what Harbaugh and his assistants can do with them.

However it will be less refreshing if a commitment never comes... But I think it will before next February.

I have to tip my cap to Desmond Fitzpatrick for his fakeout yesterday. It's refreshing to see a recruit have a little bit of fun with his recruitment since it can be a very stressful experience for a young kid.

Did they make the order of when the players got drafted public? If so, I'd love a link or URL to take a look at that if you found one.
|21 weeks 5 days ago||I agree||
The kid was a winner in high school, no other way to put it. Sure, he'll have to fully adjust to the speed of the college game before we know if he's a good option yet. But he's an uber competitive kid who has the will to win more than anything, and that's the type of guy I want leading our offense
|21 weeks 5 days ago||Eyes on Malzone||
Interesting split of the QBs. Looks like team blue will have snaps split between Morris and Speight, but with Malzone as the only other scholarship QB on Maize, does that mean we'll be seeing lots of him? I hope so, I really want to see how the freshman can perform against college players, even if it is just a spring game scrimage.
|23 weeks 6 days ago||MAAR||
I know you used Burke for the player Walton should watch, but I'd have to put him again for MAAR. This year we've seen MAAR's ability to drive to the rim and create offense when nothing else was working for this young team. If he could become a bigger threat off of screens like Burke was, teams will have to shift their attention to preventing layups which could create some open shots from 3 from guys like Dawkins, Irvin, or Robinson. This offense could get real scary real soon with a true ball screen threat.

If I had a dime for every time I heard that one from Dantonio... Well I'd probably have a couple bucks

One more burned redshirt that I hate is Royce Jenkins Stone. I can't believe he's already a senior...
|25 weeks 6 days ago||In last year's draft, only 2||
In last year's draft, only 2 of the first 25 players drafted were seniors (Doug McDermott-11, Shabazz Napier-24). Kaminsky is one of the few who will be in that select group this year. Caris hasn't had anywhere near the career Kaminsky has, and will have to have a very strong, injury-free senior year to even have a chance at being a first rounder. All I was pointing out is that history and the numbers are against him. Nowadays NBA GMs would rather draft an 18-19 year old kid who's considered a "project" than a senior.
|25 weeks 6 days ago||Teams don't want to draft||
NBA teams don't want to draft seniors. I know Caris is already young for his age which might help him, but if I were him I'd have to think about taking the fat paycheck while it's there and not risking injury again, which has plagued him the past year or so.
|26 weeks 5 days ago||^^||
If only Michigan still used the company with that slogan for its apparel. We would've never had any bumble bees, wacky stripes, or numbers that can't be seen in the sunlight.
|26 weeks 6 days ago||Per usual||
ESPN never really offers anything that an MGoBlog reader doesn't know. Regardless, I'll read anything on Michigan football that talks about next year instead of last. That reminder of our 115th ranking in total offense still makes me hurt a little inside...
|27 weeks 2 days ago||Great Find^^^||
From 4.33 to 4.7... Hence why I refuse to believe any 40 times before the NFL combine
|27 weeks 6 days ago||I agree about taking Burke||
I agree about taking Burke over Jalen. Both were great for Michigan but Burke was a consensus national player of the year and that 2013 team wouldn't have had nearly as much success if it wasn't for him.

Any Bo recruiting story is one I'd like to hear
|28 weeks 6 days ago||But at QB though...||
With a young/inexperienced QB I wouldn't mind seeing our QB dump it off to the RBs a couple times per game. The other options are to wait too long in the pocket and risk a sack or to force a throw to a covered WR/TE, which from last year we saw hurt us time and time again. I'm all for tossing it to the RBs and getting some positive yardage.
