(OT) 2 Kentucky Freshman stars involved in serious car accident (at least one dead)

Submitted by harbaughler on April 22nd, 2021 at 9:11 PM

Over the last hour, it has been circulating around College Basketball circles that Terrence Clarke and BJ Boston were both involved in a serious car accident and although unconfirmed at this moment sources are saying that Terrence Clark who just yesterday announced he would go Pro has died at the age of 19.

Man, that just sucks.... a star player on his way to the pro's whose life gets stolen in a tragic accident. Prayers to his family and to the family of BJ Boston who was rumored to also be in the vehicle at the time of the crash and also just announced he would go pro over the weekend.

Holy shit this is just awful. The kind of stuff that you never think could happen to these young men. Thoughts and prayers out to both families involved.

This is why I get so mad on the road. People get this false sense of security in a vehicle but I’ve seen enough carnage to find reckless and careless driving an egregious act. It’s the most dangerous thing most of us do on a daily basis and people act like it’s nothing.

“Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. John Matassa, who works in the Valley Traffic Division, told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that Clarke was a solo occupant in a vehicle that ran a red light going "at a very high rate of speed" in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles at approximately 2:10 p.m. PT.

"The incident was captured on surveillance video. He collided with another vehicle that was preparing to make a left-hand turn. He struck the vehicle, hit a street light pole and ultimately hit a block wall," Matassa said. "He was transported to Northridge Hospital and was later pronounced deceased as a result of the collision."

Matassa said the driver of the other vehicle, who was in a truck, did not claim any injuries. Clarke was driving a 2021 Hyundai Genesis, and he was not wearing his seat belt properly, according to Matassa.”

The reality is, the most dangerous thing most of us will do in our lives on any kind of regular basis is travel in a car.

When I was young, like many kids I drove with the entirely wrong mindset.  Not anything reckless really, but just with a general disregard for the consequences if something really bad happened.

I narrowly avoided an accident that would have probably killed me when I was 17.  Hit a patch of black ice at about 60 MPH.  Almost slid into oncoming traffic but eventually slid off the side of the road and miraculously missed a telephone pole by a few feet.    I also did a lot of cannonballing around on rural roads at night at speeds higher than I should have.

I don't know when age finally overcame the stupidity of youth, but once you realize driving is actually the most dangerous part of your day, and probably even your life, you start to look at it in a different way.

Losing any young life to a car accident is tragic.  Losing a gifted athlete right on the cusp of his professional career is incredibly sad and I'm sure devastating to his family in multiple ways.
